Saw a commercial for it today on tv. Cool! Hope they replay it at night since I'll be at work.

Unison said:No kidding... They have that show that just shows cutscenes of games... They should at least do an E3 version of that. How hard could it be?
Vibri said:Ugh, no thanks. I think what some of you folks really want is C-Span TV for games.
Is anyone supposed to be blown away by that statement? I'm glad G4 is actually covering E3 live this year and I'm glad you're teaming up with a popular and established source like IGN (who actually takes the subject seriously), but claiming that you have the most comprehensive coverage of E3 on television doesn't exactly mean much when there is virtually no coverage of E3 on television outside of G4. You could have made the same claim last year and the year before that for G4's coverage of E3. Comprehensive for tv maybe, but I seriously doubt it will be very comprehensive when compared to the vast array of alternative media which are more readily available.MattKeil said:What, you don't think a camera pointed at a monitor with a one-level game demo running would make fascinating television? :lol
I expect people here will do nothing but bitch about it (as per usual), but this is going to be the most comprehensive television coverage of E3 ever done by anyone.
Hour and a half of booth babes....30 minutes at the EA booth.

Vlad said:Well, it seems that Cinematech shows mostly trailers and footage from games that are already out, so I fail to see how doing the same thing for footage of unreleased games from the biggest event in the industry is somehow worse.

Then I better see Reggie's opening line. :lolsatterfield said:We're doing an entire show about all three press conferences on Tuesday night. It's two hours long and live.

The question on most people's minds is when (if ever) is G4's coverage of E3 ever going to even come close to approaching the level of something like Gamespot or IGN. I always thought television media was supposed to be bigger and have more access. Comcast/G4 has a lot of catching up to do to Cnet/Gamespot. For G4, 2 hours a day for 4 days is nice (hopefully an improvement over past years), but a site like Gamespot is going to have live coverage of all press conferences, new interviews and coverage of the show every single hour of the day, footage of all the new games, and it's all going to be available on demand and commercial free whenever you want to watch it. I will watch G4's coverage, but it's not going to be anywhere near good enough to rely on as your sole source for E3. On the otherhand I would say that a Gamespot complete membership is probably good enough as a sole source to provide you with 95% of everything you are going to want to see from the show.
Hell the last episode of X-Play I saw featured 5 minutes of game coverage and 18 minutes of <blah blah blah>
Vibri said:Ehh, Cinematech did exactly this at E3 last year. I'm guessing they'll do it again this year. That's ALL they do, show trailers. You find this interesting?
Ulairi said:Whatever happened to a serious review show...
p01ar said:We will have a few episodes of Cinematech that cover E3. The first one will be the 18th and then there will be 2 more on the 25th.
miyuru said:Goddamn, how many GAFers work at G4?
Ulairi said:I refuse to watch G4MTV. I wish they would try to make a serious stab at doing a gaming network and not just a lame and cheap version of MTV. Whatever happened to a serious review show that didn't feature a jackass making political comments that just make the show dated, in the long run?
Get the two chicks off G4TV and get two people who are serious gaming journalists.

I do know that I'm sick of their camera crews tromping all over E3 acting like they own the place, though, angrily shooing away hundreds of showgoers who are trying to get from one place to another as they plop down their operation right in the middle of heavily-traveled areas of the show floor. The fact that it's usually only to get some horrible introduction shot from a faux-excited pretty girl 'reporter' reciting "Video Power with Johnny Arcade"-caliber lines about HOT GAMEZ from a teleprompter doesn't help.

Yeah there's an obvious difference. Most people who work for G4 will probably be visiting Gamespot regularly for info and content. Most people who work for Gamespot probably won't turn to G4 for anything.miyuru said:Whoever compared G4 to Gamespot is oblivious to the obvious. Gamespot is a website - the layout and presentation of information is completely different than that of G4, a TV channel. Honestly even if there's less info on G4, I'd prefer sitting my ass down and having it presented to me, rather than waiting for my fucking videos to download/stream.
There's an obvious reason that G4 can't cover as much as a website, at least not as efficiently - because it takes much more to record, edit, etc. whatever piece over writing an article and posting some media.
My initial comment regarding just taping demos was just a knock at how I really hate sometimes how during a piece on a new game, the camera is more often on someone being interviewed with short interspersed clips of gameplay. It should be the other way around. And I'm not talking trailers at all, but actual gameplay. So more in-game footage, but keep the info comin'
Maybe in the future, we could get full videos with commentary of the bigger E3 demos, that'd be pretty sweet.
That's true, but X-Play is also hate. X-Play is so much about bitterness, depression, and hate it's almost goth. I was just saying you insutling GAF for being hyper critical is the pot calling the kettle black. I also think you're way off the mark. I wouldn't peg this as a GAF related phenomenon since there are very few places (zero) I've seen on the internet where people are generally enthused about G4's content. Even the people on G4's boards don't seem to be overly happy with what's traditionally been produced by the network. I would say that I probably enjoy G4 a lot more than the average gamer does. That's just my impression from reading G4 related comments all over the internet. There's an exceptional level of scorn for the network on the entire internet, not just GAF. And really G4TV is one of the lowest nielsen rated networks on tv, so you can't even claim to be appealing to a bigger audience as MTV can. Matt Keil and Shane Satterfield strut around on the internet mocking everyone who dares criticizes G4 as if they're experts on how to get great ratings with video games. The entire network is getting abysmal ratings so perhaps it would be a good idea to not dismiss such a large consensus of opinions.Matt Keil said:GAF is also hate.
Disliking what Nintendo shows at E3 doesn't make you a "fake gamer" if anything it makes you a typical gamer right now. The opinions expressed by these people that you hate seem to be fairly consistent with the market as a whole. If G4's hosts are underwhelmed by what Nintendo is producing they are not out of line with most video game consumers. The Gamecube and the DS aren't exactly churning out massive hits left and right and the release lists for both systems are pretty damn barren. Zelda probably deserves to get praise and I'm sure it will get more than it's fair share, but 1 very good game does not make a great lineup or a great E3 showing. I would hope that G4's hosts simply give their honest opinions and not feed Nintendo fanboys a load of BS just to save themselves from getting angry letters from immature mindless Nintendo worshippers. If MS, Sony, Nokia or Nintendo suck at E3 then people should just say so. Last 2 E3's have not been great for Nintendo and neither have the last 2 years been great for Gamecube. Nintendo always has a beautiful fun booth, but the amount of content they are showing is always sparse and seemingly out of touch with the modern gamer when compared to the software that Sony and Microsoft highlight. RE4 was the only playable standout title in Nintendo's booth last year and so Nintendo deserved the harsh assessment that they got from G4 last year.WordofGod said:I would like to ask you to please speak to your show hosts and tell them not to talk crap about Nintendo like they do at every E3 and on most of their monthly/weekly shows. Tommy Tallarico and those two fake gamers on G4tv.com, Tina Wood, & Laura Foy, fall into this bias group of tv journalists on your newtwork. For people who claim to be gamers, they sure shoot down any good game that comes from Nintendo.

People always point the finger at Tommy on this, but I've always found Kevin P. to be way more obnoxious with this kind of stuff.
