Hey Grad School GAFers!

Hey, I was just curious how many others out there were in grad school or considering it. I'm in my 2nd year at law school in Columbus, OH and all I can say is that my time for gaming / movies has diminished greatly. I find myself jumping on any opportunity to see a movie or play a new game. For example, I made a quick exit off of the freeway on my way home, suddenly deciding that I had time to catch Sky Captain, an impulse movie viewing if you will. November is gonna kill me with new movie and game releases with finals right around the corner. Any similar problems in your lives?

I don't sweat my grades... there's all those sayings about law school grades not mattering, "A students become professors, B students becomes judges, C students get rich."

I find great comfort in knowing I spend far too much on tuition for them to ever want to kick me out.

I think my concern over grades will decrease rather quickly, especially if I get this job I interviewed for. Plus, there doesn't see to be a whole lot of correlation between how much time I put into each class and what the actual grades were. Some of my best grades were from courses that I learned completely during reading week. Where do you go to school at?

Yeah, my gaming time has DEFINITELY decreased since starting school this year. In undergrad, I'd play through an RPG M-W night, go out Thursday-Saturday, repeat ad nauseum. The amount of work that's piling up is getting pretty insane now, even just trying to stay on top of material.

My friend told me something though which is definitely true...

What do you call the dumbest guy in your med school class?
Doctor
:)

I got my Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering several years ago. I found Grad School about twice as easy as the undergrad. It was simply much more focused on what I wanted to take. However, doing a thesis was terrible.

Screw less times for video games, how do you guys find time to go on a date? I'm just a junior, but with Chinese 1100 on my ass I can barely find time to maintain my current friends.

That's what broke my spirit my first semester... or rather when they conveniently released our grades the week after the deadline to withdraw with a refund during the start of the second semester... always thought that was clever.

I'm at George Washington, graduating in May. Been working for a firm throughout law school so I'm counting on that experience for my job hunting.

Yeah, actually, there hasn't been a whole lot of time to date or at least find someone new to date. I had a serious relationship explode the summer before grad school started, and I've been single since, with just a minor blip on my radar that didn't work out. Here's to hoping women are more attracted to lawyers than law students.

I'm a second year grad student getting my Masters in School Psychology, so it's nothing like law school. While I don't play games as much as I used to, I still have a great amount of free time, and I only stress over certain classes, and my thesis.

:lol that happens to everyone at law school. It is weird, I was always conditioned to doing well in school, until Law School that is. :D

I have to say that unless you to Yale, your grades do matter for your first job, but after that it is pretty pointless. I mean doing well in high school, college, and grad school (masters), isn't doing a damn thing for me right now.

Now that my classes are through I can really work at whatever hours I please. I generally have free time enough for exercise (2-3 hours daily of volleyball typically) and at night I usually have a couple of hours for video games or a movie but I'm usually too exhausted to commit much time to a game... I did play Halo for about an hour last night though. I have a real hard time getting into RPGs because I can only commit such a limited amount of time per day without a guarantee of playing any the following days.

However, lately, with my thesis proposal almost wrapping up and a defense looming I find that I feel too guilty whenever I think about playing a video game so I've barely played any for the last month of so. Too much stress with making sure I'm ready for this defense...

I've heard that if you come into defenses too confident then your advisors will make it a point to crush you but if you come in meek then they tend to make it easy for you. As I've been one cocky son of a gun this past year (I've felt I've had to in order to lead some other grad students by example) I've really got to work on my attitude. And I need to wrap this whole thing up before I can go on vacation to San Diego (my hometown, haven't back there for 10 months now and it's killing me)... so basically videogames are at an all time low in my consciousness.

OMG, Halo 2. I've got to defend by Nov. 9th.. that's for darn sure.
