Hideki Kamiya says he’d ‘love’ to remake Devil May Cry, now he’s working with Capcom again - Also Viewtiful Joe too!

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Former PlatinumGames designer Hideki Kamiya says he'd like to work on his classic Capcom action games Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe again.

Kamiya was recently reunited with his former employer via his new studio Clovers, which is creating a sequel to another of his classic titles, Okami.

Speaking via his YouTube channel, Kamiya was asked if he'd like to use the opportunity to revisit some of his other Capcom games, namely the first Devil May Cry, which he directed.

"As for a Devil May Cry remake, of course I'd love to do that," he said. "I usually don't replay my own games after release, and Devil May Cry is no exception. But once in a while, I catch gameplay clips and think, 'yeah, this really does feel like a 24-year-old game design.'

"With today's technology and game design approach, of course, I'd want to remake it from the ground up
. If that ever happens… well, I don't think seriously unless it's really happening, so right now, I don't have anything in mind. But if the time comes, I'll come up with something. That's what I do!"

He added: "So Capcom, leave it to me! Also, let me handle Viewtiful Joe too!"

"If we were asked to make a game that uses an existing IP, and if it looked like it would be interesting to 'Cloverize' it in our own way, then we would do it," he said.

"But of course, if we get a project proposal that we really want to work on, and the desire to go it grows, then we'll do an original work too. So I think it's appropriate to say we won't close off any possibilities – in the end, it all comes down to whether or not we get a 'wow' feeling from it."

This is what the series needs honestly. Now that Itsuno is gone, it doesn't really have a clear direction. Who better than the original creator to remake the first game as the ultimate action game?

Remakes... Is that all they can do today?

Pathetic! Guy has no clue.
Many of my favorite games / gameplay, still to this day, are over 20 years old.
SSX and Tony Hawk for example are peak fun gameplay to me, and 20 - 25 years later, there's still no equivalent or anything "better" in this genre. Saying "this feels like an old game design" sounds like a quote that would come from a casual who doesn't really know much about video games, it's quite strange to say this.

As long as you start with DMC 3 put your best foot forward .

While DMC1 is a bit clunky compared to later entries and could probably do with a remake (Underwater segments, enough said). I just hope they don't touch its more unique aspects. Such as its horror elements.

Problem is that you know they will dumb it down and make it more "accessible"... My biggest complain about 5 is that i never felt threatened. It was handing out Gold orbs to the left and right.

Keep the fixed camera angles, platforming, swimming, puzzles and Space Harrier sections please. Thanks.

Oh, you can bet that's happening. They're remaking Okami of all titles They're definitely remaking DMC.

Oh wait, didn't read it was about remakes and not new games.

"Now that someone else has done my job for me, let me take the franchise back by remaking them with 0 effort".

Why? RE is doing great. 7 and 8 are the best RE's been since 4.

Resident Evil is doing great but Kamiya directed one of very best in the series that became one of the most requested remakes for over a decade.

They should let him cook again.

That game is more than 20 years old. Go see how the recent game from the Silent Hill creator turned out...

His recent game being mediocre is more because he didn't have any budget. Between Silent Hill and Slitterhead, he created plenty of great games at Sony like the Siren and Gravity Rush series.

Kamiya would have Capcom money backing him and the RE brand name is very strong nowadays.

My issue with him touching DMC1 again is that Bayonetta and DMC (what the series evolved into at least) were very different styles of action combat. I love both styles, but I really wouldn't want DMC to be Bayonetta.

That said, I wouldn't be completely opposed to to it and I'd probably enjoy it. Just that I know it would be difficult to ignore what that remake really could have been.

Awww... I just see the word Gravity Rush and I see pure gold 🥰

I get that. But his time with that franchise is passed, a long time ago. It'd be like asking Miyamoto to direct another Zelda. RE is in good hands, no need for any shake-ups until that situation changes.

I'd much rather have him creating something new in the seme genre as DMC, just like he did with Bayonetta

I know it may be slightly off topic, but still kind of relevant to the topic, but the only thing I didn't like in Gravity Rush was it's combat. There was so much potential to do some crazy cool stuff with action combat and gravity shenanigans, but that style of gameplay just wasn't their forte. Everything else was wonderful though, and I wish they'd revisit the series.

This guy has worked on Metal Gear Rising and it only keeps getting better with time, I don't understand the hate, people don't know what they are talking about.
