Hideo Kojima Alone Is Currently Working on PlayStation Exclusive Physint 1

Hideo Kojima could well be one of the busiest directors/designers in the industry right now; not only is he fielding interviews and constantly posting on social media, but he's also simultaneously working on three games at his studio, Kojima Productions.

First, there's Death Stranding 2: On the Beach — he's working on updates for the recently released game. Then there's OD, a horror title that he's now giving more focus as the aforementioned sequel. Finally, there's Physint — that mysterious PlayStation exclusive, announced at the start of last year.

In an interview with IndieWire, Kojima comments that he alone is currently working on this latter project.

Asked what he's currently working on, here's his full answer:

Well, I'm checking the data of [Death Stranding 2] players all over the world — what kind of weapons they're using, the routes they're taking, all this data. And I also see these small bugs here and there, so I'm deciding where to fix and what to fix. I also am starting to work with the team on "OD" because that's a new project, and also doing "Physint" all by myself because that's at the conceptual stage. So I'm doing that. And also I have all these interviews every day, and also promotional — photo-shootings, things like that — so I don't feel like I've finished the title, to be frank.

So, Physint is technically in the works, but it's at the "conceptual stage" and Kojima is working on it solo — basically meaning it's years and years away.

Still, it's at least encouraging that he brought it up and acknowledges it here. We may not see this game for a long time, but it's in the works.

All we know about Physint at this point in time is that it's a "next-generation action espionage game", suggesting this will be some sort of spiritual successor to the Metal Gear Solid series. On top of that, the aim is to "transcend the barriers between film and video games".

It's happening.

Why does he bother talking about this shit when it's only in the conceptual stage? Waiting 7 years for Death Stranding 1 was a fkn joke.

EDIT: 4 years isn't much better for all the pedants. 1 year is pushing it on these announcements. It's already been 1.5 years since Physint was announced and Kojima stated its still 5-6 years away. This is going to be a 6-7 year wait. Does that sound reasonable?

Huh? 7 years? Kojipro was established in December 2015, Death Stranding was released in November 2019.
Fine dude, 7 was a top of my head exaggeration.

4 years is still ridiculous. Even 1 year is pushing it on these announcements. It's already been 1.5 years since Physint was announced and Kojima stated its still 5-6 years away. This is going to be a 6-7 year wait. Does that sound reasonable?

For reference, this has been the wait between all of his high profile/AAA releases:

Metal Gear Solid 1 - 1998
Metal Gear Solid 2 - 2001 (3 year wait)
Metal Gear Solid 3 - 2004 (3 year wait)
Metal Gear Solid 4 - 2008 (4 year wait)
Metal Gear Solid V (Ground Zeroes was a year prior but counts as part of V's story) - 2014/2015 (~6 year wait)
Death Stranding - 2019 (4 year wait)
Death Stranding 2 - 2025 (~6 year wait, theoretically one could subtract time due to Covid-19)

I'd say for Kojima's team of their size, 3 years at modern AAA fidelity with a large world and almost no re-used assets would be considered incredibly fast speed (and there's a very high chance you'd end up with a subsistence or director's cut release afterwards), 4-5 years would be seen as reasonable, and anything over 5 would either be overly ambitious or would later be noted that there were internal development issues (MGSV).

If he says he's at the conceptual phase today and Death Stranding 2 just released, then this game will probably be out around 2029, which would be on par for Kojima.

Yes, when Physint was announced he said that they were going to start working on it once they completed their work in Death Stranding 2. So I assume once they complete the promotional stuff, bugfixes and maybe the PC port they'll start its production.

Don't expect it to release before 2030 or 2031, remember that AAA game development gets longer every generation.

Yeah, fuck Kojima... lazy cunt put his last game out 6 weeks ago and all he's done since then is promote it and check for feedback, rather than getting balls deep on 2 other projects.

How dare he.

The year is 1917. Condecorated war hero Blaze "Fiery" McFlame sits in front of a microphone inside a prussian castle. He describes that faithful night in Suez Canal, 1915. He was undercover that night as Sinai marine "Mild" McFlame while the Ottoman empire was making its moves towards England. Alongside them, fought his former lover, Sarah Strongbroad, a Baltic up and comer that was the daughter of the president of Balticlandia, Linus the Lion. Meanwhile OH SHIT the dead may not be fully dead as they emerge at night with rock solid black bodies and just a glow in their eyes because Kojimbo watched Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives recently and he thought it was stoney and adorable. Woodrow "Woodman" Wilson has just decided to launch the ultimate war weapon, Steel Megagun, into that whole situation because he caught wind that the Sikhs have formed a pact with Lusitanian airforce commander Planes Bomberston. But maybe Planes has a thing for Sarah?

Who will survive? Take back what's yours in 2038, coming exclusively to the Playstation Store!

Physint could be cool...but that description just reminds me that Kojima really likes making the same general kind of game over and over.

Everything I've played from the guy is something with stealth in it that's heavily cinematic. Death Stranding diverged a bit with the traversal mechanics and the shared social features the remind of souls games, but even it had stealth segments with the heavy cinema focus.

what this means is that he doesn't have a fully finished gameplay or story concept yet... which means it will probably be more than 5 years until this is out.

Another fart in a bottle, this must be the most overrated game creator by a fair margin.
I once farted into a bottle multiple times and got friends to contribute. I then got the bottle and shoved it near my friends nose. Instead he just thought it was a bottle of water and snatched it with his mouth and proceeded to drink the bottle of farts . He cough and nearly vomited.

He did not produce a game.
