Hideo Kojima Explains Just How Important Elle Fanning Was to Death Stranding 2

Elle Fanning's character will actually play a very important role in Death Stranding 2. Speaking on his Spotify-exclusive podcast, Brain Structure, Kojima explains that he wanted to use "Elle's talents and charm to create a character unlike any other." While many have speculated who Fanning's character will be in Death Stranding 2, Kojima remains mum about it. He does, however, keep saying that she's a very important character in the game.

To illustrate how important Fanning's character will be, the Metal Gear Solid director says that he would have had to throw out the scenes that he had written had Fanning said no to being in the game. "I created the character with Elle in mind. So I was worried about her saying no to the offer," Kojima said in his podcast. That certainly didn't happen, but had that come about, it wouldn't be the first time Kojima rewrote the script for Death Stranding 2.

Kojima's willingness to alter specific parts of the game's script is further backed up by Fanning herself, who also appears in the podcast episode. Recalling a particular sequence of motion capture during the development of Death Stranding 2, Fanning says: "After we had finished that day, you got to spend more time with me. But after that day, you said 'I think I'm gonna re-write the script now, I have new ideas after meeting you." To which Kojima simply responds that he "changed a lot" and "even added in new scenes" during the performance captures.

I never played Death Stranding because it seemed like a 40 hour fetch quest… but looking at the reviews for the original game and now the PS5 Director’s Cut, it reviewed pretty well!! Really well actually.

Do you guys think I’ll like it if my favorite kind of gameplay is found in titles like The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, Dead Space…etc

I know it’s only like $19 now. It’s never been about the money. It’s always about the gameplay and time

Story wise? Maybe. There's a lot of it and it has that melodramatic, Sony-esque vibe to it. Gameplay wise it's nothing like those, apart from a little light stealth and occasional shooting.

The bulk of gameplay in DS comes from figuring out a route from A to B and delivering a package in the quickest time with your cargo in the best possible condition. The more you deliver, the better equipment you can get, the more travel options you can utilise, and the bigger jobs you can take on. There's moment-to-moment stuff in the world you can amuse yourself with while on the road (raiding enemy camps for materials and schematics, finding lost mail and so on), but it really is all about the satisfaction of pulling off a difficult delivery, and then doing it again. And again. There's a strong online social element as well since other users can contribute to the world in terms of helpful items and literal landscaping, building roads, safehouses and so forth.

I loved it but it's a weird concept which is quite unlike anything out there.

Oh damn. That’s a great description. Thank you.
Did you find it fun? Rewarding? Worth doing? Is there good replay value ?

I guess all we as gamers want is the thing we often have to repeat over and over in a game to be great. That’s the “hook of a song” so to speak. If we’re going to repeat something over and over (killing zombies [tlou], scaling buildings [assassins], sniping [sniper elite], or delivering [death stranding], if doing it is done well and rewarding, it’s worth it

Difficult to say. I mainly like games with combat but Death Stranding just hooked me. Top 1 to 3 for game of last generation.

I would say it's a risk buying it. Some people just love it but others seem to bounce off it. Saying that others that initially hated eventually came round to it like dunkey and that giant bomb writer.

For $19 I would say it's worth the risk for a potentially genre defining game!

I ve yet to replay it but I got 80 hours first time. I will probably replay it at some point.

"sony building Ferraries, MS electric scooters"
i mean after halo infinite i too would compare that to one of those shitty green electric scooters everyone was leaving all over the place, and then one day they just vanished.

It pretty much is a 40hr fetch quest but it's got some nice world building and sandbox like gameplay. It's unique but not for everyone.

Yes to all of the above but I'm not sure it's replay-friendly. There's some neat postgame stuff but it kind of feels like a one-and-done because it asks so much from you in terms of investment and time. It's an unforgettable experience though, and I'm there for DS2 day one.

When is he going to become a hollywood director like he always wanted? He doesn't seem happy in the game industry.

It’s on gamepass, give it a try. I love it. Finished it 3 times so far.

Not the Director's Cut. The DC is on PS Plus Extra, however.
Yes that's true, a bummer, and then Epic gave away the DC for a quick minute but then made it the launch PC version. Very low barrier to entry if you have a PC and are interested. Personally, I think it's an amazing game.

I've been tempted to playthrough again on PSVR2 cinema mode in ultra wide.

Does the PS5 version take advantage of the duelsense triggers and haptic feedback shit?
Yeah it does. The Directors Cut is on PS+ Extra btw so if you have a PS5 just sub for cheap and you can check it out to see if you like it.

They ended up here in Sweden. They’re everywhere littering the streets.

I don’t pay for PS+, I’m more of a “go to the store and pick up a used copy” type.

That said, after all of the posts in here helping me (thanks by the way) I decided I will go and buy it for 19 bucks. I still have to get through “a plague tail requiem” and “deathloop” which I just bought, so it’s just a matter of if I want to try “atomic heart” before or after “death stranding”.
