Well no technically he was already dead, he draws you into his own ‘Beach’ which are basically his manifestations of wartime. You put him to rest essentially and he moves on. Doesnt make much sense to bring him back.

That scene reached MGS3 ending level of poignancy.
For all his quirkiness and silliness, when Kojima wants to emotionally destroy you, he does it, effortlessly.

Ngl I hated the game when I first tried it, but I really regretted not sticking with it, the second half just goes nutso and theres some really great set pieces and bosses. Crossing the ‘sea’ is a really standout moment for boss fights IMO
