AltChar - Asmir Kovacevic - 70 / 100

High on Life 2 delivers more talking guns, outrageous satire, and wildly inventive boss fights, but plays things a bit too safe to truly surpass its predecessor.
CGMagazine - Marcus Kenneth - 6 / 10

High on Life 2's biggest issue outside of technical issues, is that the new additions to the game feel so counter intuitive and work against what made the first game such a cult hit.
Dexerto - Nathan Warby - 4 / 5

High on Life 2 is everything you could want from a sequel to the first High on Life. It's bigger, better, and funnier, finally delivering on what the original promised – a fantastic, over-the-top FPS where the jokes are as sharp as your knife.
New companions like Sheath and Travis prove that the talking guns shtick that worked so well the first time was no fluke, and they constantly leave you in stitches and your enemies needing them.
If you can give in to the weirdness, this is a goofy shooter that's genuinely hilarious and a hell of a lot of fun to play. With smoother skateboarding and more varied boss battles, it would be perfection, but there's a lot of life left in this emergent series – we wouldn't say no to a threequel.
Digitec Magazine - Domagoj Belancic - German - 4 / 5

High on Life 2 improves on everything from its predecessor. The game skillfully combines clever satire with surreal, meta-humor and numerous pop culture references. Gameplay, story and jokes are tightly intertwined, creating a unique and incredibly funny symbiosis.
The game offers enough ideas for a dozen titles. The mission design is full of variety, and the gunplay has received a significant upgrade. Particularly noteworthy are the brilliant skateboard mechanics, which shake up both the level design and the shooter gameplay.
Unfortunately, poor technical implementation and visual issues accompany this otherwise thoroughly enjoyable sci-fi package.
Everyeye.it - Italian - 7.5 / 10

Just like its predecessor, High on Life 2 is an imperfect game that, despite its rough edges, manages to entertain and amuse from start to finish. The bounty hunter's escapades in this new guise as a fugitive are even crazier than those seen in the fight against the G3 cartel, the new Gatlians are hilarious, and there's no shortage of plot twists that, on more than one occasion, shake up the narrative. So, as long as you can overlook the sub-par technical aspects and a certain repetitiveness of the gameplay, Squanch Games' offering is highly recommended.
Gameliner - Patrick Meurs - Dutch - 4.5 / 5

High On Life 2 is bigger, louder and completely unhinged - it's the perfect sequel.
Gamer Social Club - DeMandre Pressley - 8 / 10

Overall I had a blast with High On Life 2 from start to finish. With improved gameplay and in my opinion improved writing as well, fans of the first game and maybe even some detractors will find a lot to like here. Although the reduced metroidvania elements are disappointing and some tech issues can be annoying, it wasn't nearly enough to bring the overall experience down. If Squanch decides to go with High On Life 3, I await it greatly.
Gaming Instincts - Leonid Melikhov - 8 / 10

Fans of the original will feel right at home, and newcomers should consider starting with the first game for the best experience. If you are looking for a polished technical showcase or cutting edge combat systems, this is not that game. However, if you want a bold, funny, and unforgettable single player experience, High on Life 2 delivers.
Generación Xbox - Spanish - 85 / 100

An extreme shooter with a narrative as crazy as it is well-thought-out, refusing to bow to the conventions of a genre that seems to push everything toward the dark side of seriousness . High on Life 2 continues to prove that you can make an FPS with humor and mix in other gameplay mechanics without fear of ridicule.
Glitched Africa - Marco Cocomello - 8.5 / 10

High on Life 2 is bolder and more hilarious. Parkour is enjoyable, gunplay feels faster and more refined. This is a good game. If only it was a bit more polished.
IGN Spain - Rafa Del Río - Spanish - 8 / 10

Three years after Roilad left Squanch Games, the studio is now showing what it's capable of. High on Life 2 offers a narrative shooter that mixes elements of all kinds to create a unique and highly satisfying product. The frenetic combat on skateboards, the hilarious dialogue, and the thousand crazy situations we'll experience make this sequel a great game that hooks you and works well for all kinds of shooter genre lovers. A 90s-style space opera that you'll love to have in your game library.
República DG - André Custódio - Portuguese - 8.2 / 10

Four years after High on Life, Squanch Games returns with High on Life 2—an adventure even crazier, sillier, funnier, and more creative.
Saving Content - Scott Ellison II - 4 / 5

If the previous game didn't grab you, I do think High On Life 2 is superior in every way that makes it worth playing. Squanch Games largely plays it safe, but still manages to introduce new ideas never before seen in other games. Comedy is very subjective, but I think the humor in this game is right up your alley if you enjoy the likes of Tim Robinson. High On Life 2 is more High On Life, but in a more polished, focused, and refined space adventure where it's crass humor is befitting the universe it exists in.
XboxEra - 9 / 10

High On Life 2 is bigger yet smaller. It's both bold and more reserved in how it dishes out gameplay mechanics and story beats. I loved my 15 hours with it

Judging by those excerpts it seems like it's more of the same, but crazier and funnier.

Sounds great to me!

Good scores.
This is turning into the new Borderlands for me.
I should have finished Borderlands 4 by now, but I keep playing other things instead.

Looking forward to it doesn't unlock at midnight btw I think it unlocks on ps5 at about 1pm tomorrow for some reason

It's less rick and morty based on what I saw/read which made the first great. Pass for me since there's no Roiland.
Didn't Rick and Morty go to shit after the first few seasons? Haven't watched it in a while.

I'm in no rush to play this so will way for other player's input before pulling the trigger. Just hoping the game's funny and absurd no matter who wrote it.

I loved the show up until he got fired. It's been a mess of ups and downs since then, you can even tell, the show went downhill since ppl talk less about it and are less hyped about it. Might consider getting this, but no way at its full price. Maybe when its under 20 bucks.

Same, but i really love Borderlands 4 the thing is just played through Borderlands 3 recently so i'm a little bit burned out on the franchise.

That's what worries me a little. Reviewer on XboxEra says it's even funnier without Roiland being part of it, but that also means no Kenny. Kenny was awesome.

And what he finds funny I might find annoying or just not funny at all. But soon I'll see for myself. I remember how the first one had this flying creature in one of the levels and he kept annoying you and he kept yapping and yapping but it was exactly those kinds of things I thought were hilarious.

Never played the dlc.

Dindnt think I'd like the first one, but downloaded it on gamepass anyway one day while o was bored. If this is more of the same but slightly better looking, then sign me up. Ended up really liking the first one.

I am still gonna give the game a shot but yeah the game seems less interesting from what I was reading. Some of the previews were practically reading as happy and praise dedicated to Roiland no longer being around more than the game actually being good. RnM and Solar Opposites really fell after he left. I imagine this wont be much different.

Ok. This game was confusing the shit out of me when it was coming out. It was acting like it was coming out in April.

WTF?

Day 1.

Really liked the first game.
You will like this one even more. I really enjoyed it. I am really hoping it sells well I think another sequel with some more risky ideas and gameplay stuff could be really good. I just love the universe and the actors/characters of this franchise. Really sad that not many people know about it.

Do we know if the gamepass version on pc run well or it if is the same shit where the gameoass version run worse or lack the latest patch compared to steam?

Sounds great.

Honestly, it could have literally been the exact same game fundamentally as the first game with new levels and humour and I would have been more than happy.

This is what I'm seeing from the reviews so far:

  • Improved gameplay
  • Fun new gameplay mechanics
  • Reduced Metroidvania elements
  • Some like the writing, some feel it isn't edgy enough
The main bad news here to me are the reduced metroidvania elements. It was a pleasant surprise in the first one so I thought they'd expand on it.

how is performance on xbox series x?

If you don't want to watch the DF video (they didn't focus much on the Xbox versions), here is a Series X-specific video:

I guess it got a day 1 patch or something, because performance is better than what DF claimed.

i genuinely stopped playing cause its so bad to look at, i am on series X and its just such a blurry mess, i seriously sometimes struggle to make out where the enemies are... Devs are starting to abuse resolution way too much

if this had a Quality mode i would play it on that, not everyone wants to sacrifice literally everything just to get 60fps, so annoying, as i loved first game and that looked way better than this

I'm working through the game at the moment, feels like I'm around 3/4 of the way through, primarily on PC. This game punches way above its metacritic score. Varied and interesting locations, really solid movement mechanics, and interesting gun play all work together to make a game that's greater than the sum of its parts.

Another important note, not only has some of the dialogue made me audibly chuckle, but it's even gotten a couple of belly laughs out of me. This isn't very common.
