Hobby Lobby caught selling A.I. art? Do you care?

It's just a race to the bottom for AI Slop, this is the business goal, why license art from artists when you can get a department to dump a load of AI slop instead and sell that for a fraction of the cost to produce? This is cheap house tat though, don't be expecting them to want to be good, give them your $19.99 and be happy with you AI seal art to hang over your couch.

Its not just them, walmart and target are selling ai art on their cookie pans and other random shit.

I know a lot of people here wont care (plenty of gaffers here use ai art in their posts) but as a traditional artist myself, it does bug me when big companies go the cheapest and laziest possible route than to pay someone to make it for them.
(Some of my fellow artist friends are receiving less commissions since some of their clients switched to ai art)

All this kind of stuff is bottom of the barrel stuff whether AI is involved or not.
They are just as likely to have prints from artists whose work is in the public domain. AI probably just allows them to adapt to new trends like Capybara more quickly.
I dont care as long as the AI art is good and doesn't have broken shit in it.

It's just depressing. I know it's easy to say "who gives a shit", but you know, I feel for the real artists that would've gotten paid to make art like this. I feel for anyone that's having their opportunities and even their inspirations of creativity stolen by AI, because nothing AI does is original. I am not looking forward to this future.

Youtube thumbnails jumped all over this at the start, seems to have died off though somewhat.

I don't know anything about how mass produced pictures generate money for artists. But I find myself wondering if removing the potential for artists to get paid for work like this interrupts the journey artists go on to making what I assume is more celebrated and lucrative.

I wonder if what we're looking at is the end to human created dorm room/hotel room/shopping centre art ...or something bigger?

Does this mean that it's even harder to start a career in art if you're not from a wealthy family who can bankroll your wilderness years? Does this contribute to fewer opportunities for you, your family, people who come from your town?

Does it mean that the only people who get to make art a career are the children of people already established in a creative industry?

If that doesn't sound terrible, you know how Jaden Smith got acting jobs because his Dad is Will Smith? Imagine that but for absolutely everything artistic. Music, film, TV, visual art of every type. Everything is made by Will Smith's children.

Is that bad?

I kinda think that's one possible outcome from AI being used for low-mid level creative endeavours.

People thought The Terminator was a bleak vision of the future, but it could be far worse.

A distributer sold hobby lobby ai art. And I don’t care. If people don’t buy it it will not last. If a bunch of grannies buy it, then they will stock it.

Not form the US so I'm not familiar with that store. But from the quick video it looks like one of these places that just fills up containers with cheap Chinese stuff.
With these types of products even if it's not AI made I'd expect them to just have used some image they found online without paying any royalties for it.

I got some christmas decorations from a similar place this year and when I got home I realized some of it was very obviously made using the the "image trace" function on illustrator.

Don't care, but the AI generated Cola ADs suck ass:

It's no longer even noticeable. I saw the ad and didn't think for a second that it looked fake. Sure, I didn't concentrate 100% on it and i did something else on the side, but 99% of people won't notice it now.

Given how snobby and entitled the art community has and can be, I'm very much leaning towards not caring.

Hell, some of this 'AI' slop is better than what they've been pushing.

I don't see the issue, people consume whatever they want.

You think we stopped computation from advancing because engineers did calculations by hand? Only in Dune

I wouldn't mind if activists slap an "AI Slop" sticker or certificate on them and not destroying real art.

Problem with killing off artists is then the Ai only has Ai to learn from, and we go from 6 fingers to 7.
I think they call that AI inbreeding, and it's a sereous problem (for them).

I saw that commercial yesterday, the AI was obvious and distracting.

Given how pervasive AI is and will be in most areas of production this seems rather small. It would be nice if we could usher in that UBI thing so I could read my books without stress. I can also agree to change my name to Dickipedia if Elon Musk wants to give me a billion for it.

Nobody cares except the top 10% art. Sad but true. Same with tech bros - for years they have been taught 'get to coding, you are all set'. Then no-code and AI happened.

If it's good enough, I'd buy it.

I bought Betty Crocker baking tray from Dollarama for $4. I could had also bought a Cuisinart $25 model. The $4 works fine. I'm no master baker.

I've also bought Ikea prints for $15. Add in a shitty frame and it probably cost me $25 15 years ago. Still got them. Why buy custom made pics for $250 when a mass produced black and white print is dirt cheap.

I've also have some old school thick paper board movie posters. Some of them look like someone literally just took a random movie still pic and printed it on the canvas. No way it's legit. Flea market guy made it himself with copyrighted material. Fine with me. $40.

So what we want government sanctioned art now? Or a department to determine what art people are allowed to buy?

Why does this girl get so outraged? Who cares.

If she goes to a friends house is she gonna be an ass and call out that friend?

Wait what! Hobby lobby carries these online or in store too?

Both, but you're better off going into the actual store rather than ordering online. Online may show separate kits, but they have this little tidbit: "Style/Color: Assorted - You May Not Receive What Is Pictured". Heard plenty of stories of people who ordered something and got something completely different.

The only take away from this is that the account name Drama Alert serves as a warning for the overly dramatic content it posts.

"Hobby Lobby EXPOSED"

I'm just glad they can't use formatting.

As for the art, I couldn't care less. It's presumably a low end chain that primarily sells cheap and cheerful items. AI art is about what I'd expect.
