Home Networking Problem (Please Help me GAF!)

The problem: While I'm able to connect to my girlfriend's home network, I'm unable to access the internet. She has 4 other computers on the network (3 of them wireless) that are connected just fine.

Here's what little information I can provide (I'm pretty dim when it comes to networking):

- I'm able to connect to her network, but not the internet.
- I have all firewalls off and her network is unsecured.
- I'm able to connect to my home network/internet just fine.

Any suggestions? Need more info?

Thanks in advance :D

You try releasing your current ip and getting another one.

Click on run in the programs window

type ipconfig/release

then

type ipconfig/renew

now try connecting to the net

Thanks,

I'll give that a shot when I go back down there tonight.

Is that something I'd have to do whenever logging in to other wireless locations as well? I haven't used my laptop anywhere other than home yet, but I thought that it would automatically connnect to places like starbucks, panera, etc.

Would I have to re-reset it when I bring my computer back to my home network?

hahah...sorry, I'm a retard with this stuff.

Thanks again :)

Well yeah normally, I assume you have a recent laptop, it should just grab the closest network without doing anything, sometimes it doesn't work like that, I don't know why. I learned from my days of traveling from hotel to hotel that releasing the ip and grabbing another, while connected to the network usually made the connection work.

Hmm...

I tried ipconfig/renew and didn't have any luck. When I try to "ipconfig/release" or "ipconfig/renew", it says "no operation can be performed on local area connection whnile it has its media disconnected" (I don't even know what this means).

ecofirt...not sure if I've hardwired an IP address into mynetwork configurations.

I'm at her house right now and can connect to her network, but can't connect to the internet.

:(

Download a winsock fixer.. that should do it.

I had the same problem with a laptop trying to connect wirelessly to the internet. It could connect to the lan, but not the internet.
