This is the full production version of the sky unlike the concept sky shown 2 years ago..

Like its Pontiac Solstice twin, the sky has rear-wheel drive, 4-wheel double wishbone independent suspension and a 170 HP 4-cyl motor...

Base price is said to be under 20 grand and the Sky will arrive in the fall of this year....

A good looking Saturn? Is that possible? :O

Looks like they finally started to borrow some styling from Opel (lights), GM's head honchos want to make the brand less boxy and more european looking. Surprisingly nice looking dashboard for an american car too, I like it a lot.

This year's Detroit show looks really good.

Wasn't this supposed to be the Opel Speedster clone aka a Lotus Elise clone?

No, the Speedster is too radical. It's an Elise stripped of everything not necessary that weights more than 100 gr in order to make it even faster. No AC, no power windows, no regulable seat...

The Sky looks like something less brutal and way more comfortable (I've driven a Speedster and it is way too hardcore even for its small engine)

I personally think in terms of looks the Saturn version shits all over the Pontiac version... will the Saturn version have as much hp as the Pontiac version or will it be... detuned?

Darian, they both have 170-hp fours but, supposedly, the Solstice will recieve a 240-HP Supercharged version of that engine for 2007....I would imagine the Sky would get the same upgrade..

Oh man, that looks good. Couple questions though. What's it weight? I hate overweight roadsters. It makes no sense. I like the look of the Speedster if it's really mid-engine. Also, does it have some sort of soft top? That price is quite nice, and if it's light, it could be fun to drive. The pricetag is what's really cool about it. But if it's heavy, forget about it. I hope they get the suspension right. PEACE.

At the same time? Probably not.

I hate how Saturn's ugly red logo is non-symetric. It's small but totally ruins the look of the car. They need to design a new logo.

This... is a dumb comment.

Yeah that is a pretty weak comment. But I can see his point. It's not a very elegant symbol.

But that car is sweet. Saturn has done some nice things lately. First their "Redline" series and now this. Who would have thought?

Internationally there are LOTS of ... strange logos....

Yeah Saturn is definitely coming around... you know the Redline verison of the Saturn VUE is a pretty nice looking sporty SUV... I'd buy one.

I don't know too much about Saturns...what's wrong with them?

On the other hand...I've been in a lot of Pontiacs...they are pieces of crap. Maybe the high end ones aren't...but the Sunfires...absolute pieces of crap.

The Saturn-branding is both good and bad. (They would have been smarter to launch it under a new brand-name though.)

It's good for us. Since it's a Saturn, they can't charge you for the brand-name -- in fact they're almost paying you for the name. So that $20k goes a lot further than it would if it were under a luxury badge. Likewise, the resale value on the car probably won't be as high, because of its Saturn branding. Thus, you will likely be able to buy it for a great price used as well.

Think of it as the Neon SRT-4. For what it's designed for (going in a straight line), you get incredible bang-for-the-buck because it's a Neon.

And this ...is still a Ford. :lol It's nothing but a 1960s hack job. They couldn't even come up with something original that could be a flagship model. They had to go back 40 years to get something halfway decent to represent them. Typical mediocrity. :lol

Nothing, people just have a habit of going OMG IT'S NOT A [insert ricer/some race car/something no one on this forum could afford].

I guess Saturn is to cars as Ninteno consoles are to games on this forum...

No, I hate pimped up shitbox cars with a passion. And I'm sure there are quite a few people on this forum who can afford better than a Saturn.

Uhh...you are getting incredible bang for a buck with the SRT-4 because of the brand name? Nope...you are getting it because it is based off a pre-existing model. It is cheaper for Dodge to make so they don't charge as much. Nobody even says they have a Neon SRT-4...its just a SRT-4.

And why the fuck are people bashing the Ford GT? It is better than the new Ferrari's and Lambo's by a fucking mile...and it is still priced like a Ford (150K). You are not going to pay up the ass to get one of the best sports cars ever made. This car not only flys in a straight line, it can corner better than those Itallian cars too.

As for Saturn, the reason they have sucked over the years is that they made cheap ass cars. That car was only 12K...but if it is going to fall apart on you after 5 years why get it? It also didn't help that they basically didn't change their model line up for about 10 years either. They are trying to make a comeback though...Redline and now this. At least they are trying to make some changes.

Saturn is losing its autonomy within GM, and plastic panels are going away :/

If the Sky is the result of them losing some autonomy, then I say make the leash even tighter. It was like the division was holding contests to see who could design the most boring cars in the world.

I own a Saturn and I love it :) 1997 SL2

Good company, they gave me a rose and thank you card after an oil change. And I'm a guy.

The Dodge Slingshot

23620_35956_381_253_dodge_slingshot_concept.jpg

General Information
Dodge Sling Shot - Affordable, Practical Fun
Auburn Hills, Mich. - Dodge Sling Shot is a boldly distinctive new sports car vision from Dodge - one that's practical, adaptable and, above all, affordable.

Designed from the ground up to be a driver's car, with the kind of look, feel and responsive drivability that enthusiasts demand, the Sling Shot concept was designed with fuel efficiency being a key part of its basic design.

Dodge Sling Shot is designed for open-air driving with a main roof panel and side rails over the passenger area that can be stored in the trunk (Sling Shot has two storage areas), while a canvas roof panel can slide back and out of the way like a roll top desk for open-air driving.

Efficient, Responsive and Fun to Drive - Genuine Dodge Character
Sling Shot features a rear-mounted, 3-cylinder, gasoline engine that is tuned to deliver 100 bhp and 0-60 mph time of about 10 seconds due to power to weight ratio of 17.4 lbs/bhp. A five-speed gearbox, rack-and-pinion steering, four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes complete the driver-oriented characteristics contributing to the Sling Shot's efficient, responsive and fun-to-drive personality at the same time delivering up to 45 mpg.

A "Machined" Interior Look
The Dodge Sling Shot concept has an interior design influenced by the legacy of Dodge and Chrysler's performance past - when "blown" HEMI engines dominated the American landscape. Starting out with engine bits for inspiration, Sling Shot's interior designers combined these elements into an artful blend of visual excitement and tactical pleasure.

"Sling Shot is a dynamic, creative look at the never-ending quest to offer visually exciting design, structural integrity, operating efficiency and the all -important fun-to-drive quotient in an affordable, entry level sports car," said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President - Chrysler Group Design.

If this thing ever makes market, and ever weighs 1700lbs, I'd buy it, and give it an engine transplant to blow the door off anything on the planet. :lol Well, it'd be hella fast at least. But a 3-banger? Pfft. PEACE.

It is a sweeping and stunning refutation of ugly American car design though.

I couldn't disagree more...this car looks bad ass in person, even more so when the specs are considered. Plus it has a unique look, one obviously based on the previous Ford GT, which makes it one of the few retro jobs that actually works in my eyes. And it also looks like a pure bred racing car. And performance wise, it's one of the hottest production cars ever made, as well as being one of the most affordable. Don't see how anyone could hate on it, unless they simply dislike anything Ford.
