Nah. You can POP3 forward. (Apparently IMAP is restricted from free users? Really?)
They only made POP3 forwarding free a few months ago, too. :lol

I see they've finally removed the spam ads at the end of each mail? Or is that still there? It was funny to see them spamming "WANT LESS SPAM? GET HOTMAIL" in evey fucking email.

I heard that Hotmail is the most used email in a lot of countries
I knew it was very widely used, but I had no idea they were still ahead. Then again, we live in a world where Twilight is extremely popular.

So you only ever do browser email, I guess that would explain some of it, although gmail is still so much faster, even on browser email. I just did a quick test, gmail took me to my inbox in 8 seconds, hotmail took me to a shitty start page in 25, where I have to click on "inbox" to see my unread messages.....which I already checked on my phone days ago.

Like someone else mentioned, it's three mouse clicks done one time ever and from then on you go straight to your inbox as quickly as you would with gmail.

All of those unread messages in your inbox that you already checked on your phone? Yeah, the change that started this thread takes care of that now. The email app on my iphone now syncs with the web client, which syncs with my desktops Live Mail client.

I also sent a test message from Hotmail - there's not annoying spam added to the message. Looks the exact same as the message I sent from my gmail account.

Not begrudging anyone who's had gmail as their primary e-mail, I'm just pointing out that there's simply no compelling reason to spend any amount of time switching from hotmail to gmail.

still using hotmail here. had it so long it would be a pain in the ass to update everything thats tied to it.

there was a time where hotmail sucked hard and you got over spammed but for a long time now it's been really good. since the most recent update i dont like how the attachments work as you can olnly preview them unless you download but whatever.

Not begrudging Hotmail, it does seem to have come a long way and is probably on-par with Gmail circa 2008/2009, but free Google Voice calls and Priority Inbox are pretty major features that got launched recently. If you don't have a microphone and don't get that many emails, then yeah, I can see why you wouldn't see the difference.

The "priority inbox" is no different what Hotmail has ("filters" and "quick views").
And Hotmail does it better. They automatically parse shit out based on who it's from, if it's a social site update, if it's got shipment tracking info, etc.. You have these automatic shits you can click on to get said views of your inbox, any folder, or your entire account.

As far as Google Voice calls go, they're not always going to be free.

Hotmail and GMail are nearly fucking identical. The only real difference between the two is that GMail uses labels.

Hotmail currently trumps Google in 2 key areas I care about:
1 - Spam filtering (And of course, your results will vary)
2 - Attachments (50 MB max per attachment, total 10GB per message. Gmail is 25 MB / 25 MB, I believe.)

You really do have to try Priority Inbox in order to "get it." I agree it's difficult to tell the difference at first. But if you're getting a glut of new messages, it very quickly proves its worth. I, and many blogs now, swear by it.

Calls will be free at least until the end of the year, at that point they're going to analyze whether they should charge for it. I imagine they won't, as that'll be around the time Google Me launches, and social network + free calls is almost a recipe for success, especially among the tweeners. Not only that, the only reason they'd start charging is if people weren't paying for international minutes as much to keep it cost-effective, and with a social network, you're going to get a huge influx of international users.

Attachments is offset by Google Docs allowing the upload of any file now, as long as it's less than 1 GB.
