Housemarque Staffing Up for Next Project

IbizaPocholo

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

There are currently six openings at the company, one of which is for the Principal Graphics Programmer. The job listing notes that they will work closely with the team, specifically the Technical Art Director, Technical Director, and Graphics Architect, to help drive the next evolution of games at the studio.

"Together with the team, you will push innovation in ray tracing, lighting, and shading, turning fresh ideas into practical solutions, whether through GPGPU techniques or real-time ML and tensor computing," the listing notes.

Additionally, they are looking for someone with 8+ years of experience in graphics programming for similar projects, including at least one shipped AAA video game. Notably, they are also requesting a candidate specifically passionate about pushing Fidelity on PlayStation hardware.
They're also looking for a lead gameplay animator. This listing specifically notes that they are working on the "next groundbreaking title" from the team. Potential candidates should have a background in gameplay animation for AAA games, preferably in a leadership position.

"If you're a seasoned gameplay animation leader with a passion for developing both ideas and people, you'll thrive in our collaborative environment. While we appreciate self-starters who are eager to learn new techniques, we also value team players who can contribute to a larger vision," the listing reads.

All positions are local to Helsinki, Finland.

I cant even get excited anymore, devcycles are approaching the 6-7 year mark, i dont even know if i'am still alive when the next project releases, a mass effect style trilogy that released in the same generation would now take like 25 years lol.

Read the title quickly and at first glance thought it said "Housemargue up next on the chopping block"! Thought "oh no! what are they doing?".

Housemarque has 110-123 employees, how many copies of Saros will they need to sell to be in the clear? Returnal is barely at 2 million sold as of 2025, according to Google AI.

Good to know. They are probably already done with Saros. I am guessing they moved release date to get away from Crimson Desert

Being a Finland studio is a big benefit. Salaries are much cheaper. I don't see a way they get shut down

Returnal to Saros was 5 years?

Fortunately for them they're in Finland. 110 devs there probably cost the same as 25 devs in California.

Good they will need another backup plan since Saros will be a flop.
What is wrong with yall? Its like you secretly wish every Sony game flops in your deluded little head for some twisted reason. Returnal has some of the best gameplay of ANY game this generation from a small studio. Isnt that what you guys champion, or is it only different when that kind of game is made by Playstation?

It's not that we want it to flop but let's be real even though some may think Returnal has some of the best gameplay if the game isn't selling well Sony is known to shut studios down for it.

It seems like the studios Sony keeps around are the studios that sell well just an observation.

Took them a full fat 5 years to do a reskinned Returnal expansion. A ground up entirely new title presumably for PS6 will probably take years 8 minimum.

Sony literally acquired Housemarque because Returnal sold 560K units in three months. 560K units.

Dude at least a third of this board doesn't even like video games.

Given the larger install base. Sure?
Regardless, it will be profitable even at 1.5M LTD, so I don't get your concern here.

There should be no concerns for Housemarque until Bend and MM get shut down. Housemarque is not an expensive studio to keep around and they've actually proven that they can ship games at regular cadences.

Where is my f'n Resogun sequel, dammit!?
Hopefully not , they're one of the few devs that put out something new every time and are mainly defined by their particular gameplay style . Kinda worried the moment they make a 10+ mil plus seller Sony will stronghold them into just making sequels and franchise them for eternity . They've been around since 1996 and have never made a sequel which I think is pretty cool .

It hasn't been released yet but I can see them working on it for the next 20 years over the coarse of a trilogy, spin offs, remakes/remasters, a gaas game and a TV show/movie lol .
It's just a complete misunderstanding of the situation. These studios (like SMS with GOW or PD with GT) are not exactly forced to continue those franchises, those are purely their own decisions because it just works.

Because they were struggling to release anything. Housemarque has not been struggling to get Saros out.
Sure is this the reason, right? Because Sony bought them with an great plan in mind, huh? Man, the defense force for Sony is hilarious.
