Yeah, but you're getting to live in LOS ANGELES

Home of the Lakers

Home of E3

Home of Hollywood

Home of the place they spoofed to make GTA SA

Check that same dollar amount for NY and report back. I remember seeing someone pay like $250k for a flat about the size of my closet...

LA does? You can't see the tops of the skyscrapers from the McDonalds down the street from it because it's so hazy all of the time. My entire trip to E3 it was too hazy to see a thing.

And the hottest "bitch" I saw was a hobo putting out a cigar on a coors light bottle.

who cares how hazy it is. Its 70 degrees. Besides, Houston is right up there with LA as far as shitty air quality goes, statistically.

Mo Val WHAT WHAT.

Oli, it's not always hazy, though. When it's clear, it's pretty nice.

Now I understand the Kobe hate.

Deep down, DM is really a Clipper fan.

:lol

My Laker Hate really started with how much of a bandwagon hopping state California is. Imagine 16 million Konexs with Laker flags on their car during June. No one will even admit they are Laker fans til June comes around and it looks like the Lakers will win the title. Bastards!

Edit: NinjaScooter got it!

You are almost as bad as Konex!

Your allegiance is really going to be tested when T-Mac comes to LA to play with Kobe in a few years. :D

I've never actually switched teams, I just started supporting T-Mac instead of Fatty Krause.

When I switch between 4 teams in the span of 4 weeks, then call me a Konex :p

ROFL. My apartment is nearly big. I pay $400/mo, and I'm the only person in it. I live in Huntsville, AL.

Hail to the KING baby
For 279k in Manhattan you get:

That.

Of course if you live in a big city it's more expensive, chances are you'll make a helluva lot more in a big city than say Houston, at least that's true in my field, so it does balance out. LA is still cheaper than SF or NYC, and the same can be said of any non-major city, nothing special about Houston. Cheap real estate in Houston? Get the fuck out of here!

Los Angeles is one of the few places in the world where you can go snowboarding in the morning then hit the beach in the same afternoon. Beat that Houston.

Yeah living in L.A. is the way to go. Especially if you live in San Fernando Valley, where porn stars film right behind your house. :)

Orange County owns all. I don't think I'll ever leave. Well... Maybe since I doubt I'll be able to afford a house. =( I'll move back when my parents die. :lol

Wow, if I moved to Houston, I'd be wealthy. I think my parent's house could go for about $650k right now. We could get a mansion in Texas.

I'll agree that housing costs in LA are ridiculous, but the again it's a price you pay for the perk of living in LA. Wages are also higher here, and gainful employment is more abundant than in Houston. Good thing i have a seaside condo near Venice Italy waiting for me when i retire.

Houston cost of living rox. Fenegi will let you know about apartment prices of he ever finds this thread.

And for you jackasses (ie: bjork, PistonHonda, bionic23)
Rockets > Lakers
Astros > Dodgers
Texans > ...oh wait you don't have a team!

Houston wins, frawress victoly.

Why wouldn't somebody want to live in Texas? I swear the cost of living in Houston is about the same as it is in Austin (if apartment prices are any indication). There is a hell of a lot to do in Austin. Not to mention its an hour to San Antonio and the riverwalk... It's 30 minutes from San Marcos and the most beautiful natural springs and the best tubing... (and schlitterbahn).

I moved from San Francisco to Houston last year. In SF, I shared a two-bedroom with a roommate. In Houston, I have a HUGE 2-bedroom without the roommate for nearly the same amt. I was paying for half the rent in SF. :D Houston's not too bad, once you get used to its "quirks."

Nerevar

they call me "Man Gravy".
A classic example of the supply-and-demand model of free-market capitalism.

In other words, nobody wants to live in Houston.

Note to Oli - you don't want to talk about pollution. You live in Houston, the city with the worst air quality in the country, statistically. How on Earth you Texans managed to pass LA in terms of shitty air is beyond me, but I guess everyone running their AC at 60 degrees during the summer and driving around their horribly laid-out city (because, as we all know, there's no mass transportation of any worth in Texas cities) managed to outdo the city of smog.

olimario

You know the vehicles make up a terribly small % of all air pollution, right? If not, you should. All I know is that the air quality where I live in Houston is just fine and much better than the air I had to endure in Downtown LA and in Hollywood. Baytown and Texas City cause our crappy air, but it pretty much stays where it is.

And everything I saw in LA was so overcrowded and so packed together. The entire place is this disgusting, overcrowded concrete jungle. Really uncomfortable.

Where I live you have room to stretch your legs... Fucking Yao Ming has room to stretch his massive legs. You may argue that it's just the suburbs, but it's really not. Downtown you have the massive threatre district that is plenty spread out and borders a nice park.

On Westheimer and the Galleria area you have nice suburbian-esque neighborhoods nestled in with all of the shopping and entertainment.

levious

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
I wouldn't imagine that property value in Texas cities will lag this far behind much longer... Real estate is just outrageous in cities everywhere. You should purchase a home as soon as possible if you live in a texas city.

This really is just a matter of personal opinion. I live in Boston, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Due to a great mass transit system I can get anywhere (including downtown) extremely quickly and easily. I don't consider it "overcrowded", but rather that everything is extremely convenient. Texas cities are just the opposite - the definition of urban sprawl. Plus they really lack in mass transit, making it a virtual impossibility to do anything without getting out and driving. It's really what you prefer. If you like living in a wide-open space some distance from the city, sure, Texas is fine for you. But if you like living downtown, in the city, with easy access to everything it offers, then Texas is the opposite of what you want. I personally know I'm going to be living out in the 'burbs when I settle down with wife and kids, so I'm enjoying the city life right now.

And yes, there is a reason land value is so low in Texas. Like I said, supply and demand.

...actually Houston is supposed to have pretty good mass transit. I tell ya LA is a great town, no place like it, but its just a rip off, wtf do you mean im paying for the weather? Bitch what if i was allergic to sunlight or something do i get a discount? Maybe tack off a few thousand cause i cant hang shit on my walls cause i dont wanna get owned when an earthquake comes? In all actuality you could own a house somewhere work hard and with a good job go to california any time you feel like it, my uncle does it all the time since his wife is from there and visits 1-2 times a year.

SuperPac

It's true that there's really no mass transit here in Houston. You have to drive everywhere. They started a light rail system last year and people can't stop crashing their cars into the trains. As for air quality, it only really sucks during the summer and only if you're spending hours outside. The rest of the year I've had no problems. I do, however, have problems with the tap water here. I can't drink it. It messes with my insides something horrible.

Are the trains made from special light-refracting plastic or something? How do you not see it?

wait, I just want to be clear, are you comparing the cost of living in Los Angeles proper vs. cost of living in the suburbs of Houston or in Houston proper?

Of course it cost more to be 15 minutes from the ocean... not to mention be from a progressive state instead of a reactionary state. :D

San Antonio is even cheaper than Houston. Also, while I may not like most of the people who live in Texas, the state itself rocks.
