How can I play HL2 with no internet connection

I'm currently in Iraq and I can't access that fucking bullshit steam from here to register the game. So I want to know what can I do to just play the fucking game I purchased. This is some fucking bullshit.

If you're a service member, I think you should get all the free unlocked copies you want.

This shit sucks because I bought this fucking game thinking I could play the shit on offline mode but, now I'm fucked. This is fucking bullshit.

Yes, one tends to think this when you buy a BOXED PRODUCT.

>:(

BTW, out of curiosity, are you in the service?

You don't have any way to connect to the internet just once? (Are you posting from a different PC?)

There are a couple internet cafes in Karbala, last I checked.

Honestly, that sucks. What about Kuwait? Could you be going back there soon?

why would steam be banned and blocked? oh shit, you don't think the military is already cutting a deal with the combine, do you?

I won't be in Kuwait for a LONG time. I'm were I am for 6 months.

The whole Steam concept is just retarded. I can't believe how much bullshit I went through just to play the game offline....

Everyone has a price.

Maybe you, pal, but I'm not going into Iraq unless I have one of these capabilities:

1. Come back after death thanks to pet parrot
2. All bullets/bombs fired miraculously miss self
3. Vampire
4. Can shoot bees from mouth

I remember when Steam was originally pitched a lot of people were all like "This is the future!" now look at what the future has truly wrought. Sure, if anyone should be paranoid or overprotective of their game it should be Valve, considering the whole stealing fiasco. I have to wonder if this is going to start to become the norm for all PC gaming, if so that's just one more blow to the industry. To be honest the last PC game I bought and played was Ground Control II.
PCs are expensive to maintain, the games sometimes make you jump through hoops like this and cheating is just a mainstay in multiplayer settings. The more I play on XBL the more I'm starting to think that Consoles are really the way to go. Cheating and modification are punished, perhaps too severely according to some. And there's at least some attempt to provide a good community experience for subscribers.

This is my favorite post in weeks. It has everything!

Pet parrot - check
Superpowers - check
Reference to the Undead - check
Bees - check

I thank you, sir.
:D

Dumb question, but have you considered writing to Valve and explaining your situation? They should be able to IP trace the email headers and realize you're not kidding. Perhaps they can provide an offline authenication of some kind...

System Requirements: Internet Connection <-- to me, that's the same as requiring a DX9 videocard (although not required for HL2 obviously).. people just have to get used to it. It does say it on the box though.

Err...Tommy has a blog detailing his situation in Iraq and everything. He's a civilian doing some kind of contract work IIRC. :P

Oh those perpetually owned junior members.... they keep this place alive :lol Tommie is in Iraq. Perhaps you'd like to send him an apology card or something.

You can get his address from his blog: http://tommiehustle.blogspot.com/.

The game autopatching everyone automatically so everyone is always on the same version and you always get updates the instant they come out, is brilliant.

I bought HL2 through steam the day it was available for preorder. I played it November 16th, 3:10AM EST. Basically the second it came out. I have no complaints.

Some of you guys just suck.

The Steam concept rocks. Its actual execution is a little frustrating (sometimes).

Really though, there needs to be a better way to play ALL Steam games offline. I went to a LAN the other day and so many kids couldn't play CS:S because of offline errors and whatnot.

Man, it really sucks that you can't play HL2 because of Steam. You should really email Valve about it and see what they can do about it. Meanwhile, get yourself a PS2 and MGS3... GOTY! :D
