this isnt an internet pop-up this is a windows prompt.

the title bar says "Messenger Service"

and it says "Message from SECURITY MONITOR to WINDOWS USERUSER on 2/19/2005

Important Windows Security Bulletin
=====================
Buffer overrun in messenger service allows remote code execution, virus infection and unexpected computer shutdowns"

it says a few other things to. it says my system is affected and i should download the patch at www.updatepatch.info << DO NOT CLICK THAT LINK

its obviously something like spyware but ive run adaware and MS's beta spyware program and neither of them found anything.

Try turning off the messenger service. Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services, look for Messenger, double click and set it to disabled.

That's weird I thought MS Antispyware tool disabled the Messenger service... maybe I'm confusing that with Spy Sweeper... one of them does it right upon first start up....
