WTF, I just downloaded a video file that ends in .mkv, and I have no clue how to play it. None of my players seem to recognize it, and even when I switch the extension to .avi, it gives me an error.

Any suggestions?

Edit - Never mind, it requires the Matroska video codec, something I've never heard of before. It's amazing what a google search will turn up

MKV is the Matroska package format. It's seperate from the video and audio streams which are encoded in their own format.

Like AVI, but with a lot more features.

It offers pretty much what DVD does, IIRC. Multiple subtitle tracks, multiple audio tracks, etc.

Be sure to use something besides WMP. I suggest Media Player Classic or Zoomplayer. I can never get MPC to do the anamorphic squeeze correctly though.
