This is horrible. I've never had so many problems with my OS.
It prompts me for everything, my homepage keeps changing, I have more popups now, and things I never wanted on my computer got downloaded somehow.
I don't understand why MS would do something like this.

How do I uninstall this and go back to where I was?
It got installed through the Windows Update.

Thank you, FfF.
I wouldn't have thought that I could uninstall a Windows Update from the Control Panel.
I'm about to back everything up and Uninstall this son of a bitch.

One more question.
Service Pack 2 changed my options so JPGs would be opened in Adobe Image Ready instead of Windows Picture and Fax viewer.
How do I change it back?

Right click on any JPG, choose properties... IIRC there should be a button there that allows you to reassociate.. I think it opens up another window with a default selection of apps to choose from or lets you go browse and choose your own... there should also be a check box I think to make the change permanent.

All that is from memory.

1. Single-click a JPEG file.
2. Hold the Shift key while right-clicking the file.
3. Select "Open With..."

4. Select a program. (internet explorer)
5. Place a check mark next to "Always use this program to open this type of file" if you want to permanently change its file association. Otherwise, this will be a one-time solution.
6. Click OK.

user error

not a problem with SP2 for me

It's not necessarily user error. I have SP2 installed on my work and home computer. The work computer runs fine, but Nero stopped working properly, sound card kept losing drivers, and Windows Media Player kept crashing on my home computer. I just put SP1a back on the home computer and all is well.

edit: In olimario's case, it does appear to be spyware/malware/browser hijack.

SP2 didn't do that. Something was screwed up on your machine before you installed Sp2.

If you told me a program wouldn't launch, or something stopped working, THAT would be SP2, but your talking about your homepage changing, and more popups. That has nothing to do with SP2.

SP2 isn't your problem. You've got malware from somewhere else.

Something something firefox something.

You can't uninstall SP2.

Disable the firewall, windows update and virus protection and things should stop popping up.

Oh yeah, get spybot or adaware to get rid off the spyware.

Just copy paste -- the link comes out funny when I try to make it clickable. Stupid brackets :p

Spyware Doctor fixed my problems, I think.
If I have more, I'll try Spybot.

Thanks so much, GAF.

Adaware and Spybot... never leave home without them. In addition for general hard drive clean up of useless files I'd like to recommend an app called Crap Cleaner it is GODLY in the amount of freespace it is able to reclaim IMO.
