What I do is install a range of games I want to play so that they are ready for when I'm done with the current game. Then when the times comes I don't feel like playing any of them, so I install something else instead. Then in a few years when I'm having a clear up I uninstall them ready for the next round of "Definitely soon"
With all the unfinished barf coming out, I definitely thoroughly check whatever it is I'm thinking of buying. All "remasters" with AI paint jobs and not fixing decade old problems are abundant
The game that makes a lot of noise and I wait tell it gets cleared. I used to look desperately for anything decent but only when I'm desperate and when there are a lot of great releases I wait tell it slows down.
I skim through my Steam library and pick something to play. Not the whole thing, but a curated list of "cool games I want to play soon" I have ready. Most times that's enough but if not I'll just go and play some console retro game, got lots of games to play from the NES up to today.
I browse steam. Anything lower than very positive user rating is automatically out, even if the game looks good to me. I trust the reviews more than the pictures and videos.
Last game I bought was recommended by ChatGPT lol. Would you believe it ? It's actually quite good at understanding what you like and recommending stuff.
Recommended Stranger of Paradise and I am having an absolute blast. Exactly the kind of game I was looking for.
