I’m very giggly and have one celebrity obsession;

I found out he is appearing at an entertainment show event in Cali. You pay at least $75 to get in, then have to stand in a long line to meet the star you want and pay for their autograph.
That doesn’t guarantee you a picture so you have to sign up for a photo op and pay another $70.
I would also have to pay for airfare and a hotel, and shuttle, or Uber etc. The hotel where the event is taking place is sold out and a considerable waiting list.
So I’d have to stay at a different hotel. I know a few fans online who are going, but never meet them before. Just online. I’d be spending at least $1500.

Am being the crazy one for not feeling right about going? It’s a very impersonal way of meeting him, but at same time when would I get another chance?
But how do I know he wouldn’t cancel? It’s happened at other local events I went to. Not with him and nothing as big as this, but I’ve been to celeb memorabilia shows where they would add names, sometime bigger ones and then it would say canceled the day before.

Honestly I wouldn't bother - its a bit like the VIP tickets you get at gigs which promise a meet and greet for some exorbitant fee - absolutely terrible, cynical means to rinse fans for cash.

Besides, never meet your hero's etc. Certainly not in that context anyway.

I have zero interest in meeting people I admire or like. It's not even a "don't meet your heroes" thing. I just don't want to bother them, it's that simple...

If I saw Hideki Kamiya, Shinji Mikami, Hideaki Itsuno, Phil Anselmo, Kim Deal, so on, my heart would race.

Kamiya, Shinji, and Itsuno made (*With talented and gifted developers) some of my favorite games and I deeply respect them as artists, Phil Anselmo and Pantera saved me from suicide, and Kim Deal was one of my heroes growing up.

I was in milan with my family once and we were in the famous street of the most prestigious shops where a cheap scarf cost 2000 euros, and there was valeria marini walking down the street, there was a small amount of people around her asking for signs so i just waited 5 min to get a pic with her.

If Carl Sagan were still alive I'd travel to meet him. Even if it was just like a short greeting while he signed my copy of The Demon-Haunted World.

idk if counts but I stood in an hour line to get my Switch and 8-bit Mario Amiibo signed by Charles Martinet once. So that's cool, I guess. Didn't cost me anything but the promotion did bring a ton of Switches to the store when they were still super hard to find (a bit before Mario Odyssey released), so I picked one up for that just so I could get him to sign it.

I also stood in line to shake Biden's hand when he was VP when he was doing a "meet the troops" thing at the base I was stationed at and he made sure to stick around for every one of us to do so and get a picture with him.

I've met Rick Ross, Chilli from TLC, Kim Kardashian, the late Shawty Lo, Hulk Hogan's son (can't remember his name), dude who played Tank from The Matrix, J. Cole...

That's not counting minor celebs from VH1 reality TV.

I've been to like 5 cons so far, New York Comic Con, Fan Expo, Galaxycon, bunch of big licks and yea it all revolves around paying money to meet and have your picture taken with the celebs you want, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to meet that one person. For example I met Peter Weller last year. I was a huge admirer of his growing up so I had to meet him, got my picture taken with him along with some autographs and actually shook his hand and had a nice but brief conversation with him, met Brent Spiner, doesn't do handshakes like Peter Weller does, just fist bumps lol. Also have a picture with the original Red Ranger(someone else paid), Mary Elizabeth Winstead(someone else paid), Christopher Lloyd bumped into my wife as he was walking and while we were up next in line, that experience was free

I made a thread not so long ago about my last con adventure and how much it sucked. Don't think there's anyone id like to meet other than maybe Keanu Reeves, or maybe Michael Ironside but I don't go to cons as often as I did, it costs a lot of money, the travel sometimes takes hours to get there, its just not worth it anymore, especially when prices continue to rise and there's no deals at these cons, its all overpriced stuff you can get for sometimes half off. I like small time cons, its cheap and you get smaller time people show up which is ok. There's no point looking at booths when its shoulder to shoulder people walking around, not the experience I want when buying something.

I will say however that horror conventions are very cool, much much cooler than these extravagant conventions like SDCC/NYCC.

I've met a bunch at cons. A few just out and about. The only one I regret was not chatting up was Shawnee Smith, whom I had a HUGE crush on as a teen, because at the time I was just too nervous and it's always a little awkward at a signing or whatever.

Can't think of any I would go out of my way to meet though.

I saw him around town a few times when I lived down there. I met Jimmy Buffett at Folly Beach. I also once saw Drew Barrymore in the international terminal at JFK boarding a flight to London Heathrow. I was heading to board a flight toward India so I only saw her in passing.

I've went up to Don Cherry and NHL players poking into the stands. Cherry was known at the old MLG in the cheapy level 500 grey seats to come down and see fans. Got lucky one night and there he was at the corner doorway and he signed my ticket stub.

Also saw Rick Tocchet at the airport one day and we were both heading to Vegas on the same flight. So there he was in the gate waiting area. He signed a hockey magazine I had on me.

Depends on the situation and the person. I would definitely be interested in meeting my childhood heroes and people who I find very talented (Michael Ironside who was already mentioned would be a great pick), but not through some scammy event and I don't think I'd just stop them on the street as I imagine they usually want to be left alone.

It sucks we don't get any Comic-Con events in my area and travelling a few hours just to attend one is too much.

Ran into this dude, one of my all time favourite celebs whilst walking around Versailles, he was with his GF/Wife, he sat across from us in the little garden cafe and then we proceeded to bump into them as we both explored the gardens and fountains, never once went up to him and when we both ended up standing side by side for one of the fountain shows I was gonna ask him to take a photo of the wife and I, perfectly normal behaviour between adults my wife bottled it ffs

Met Liv Tyler and Scott speedman at Big Johns in Charleston. Liv hung out with us and wanted to know where to party next. Super super nice.

I've met celebrities randomly a bunch though. Evander holyfield, Lyle lovevett, Tim brown, Jimmy Carter, Kristin cavalerri. I've lived in a lot of places so I guess it's just luck
