How Kevin Costner Lost Hollywood

Trilobit

Absolutely Cozy
Kevin Costner, most known for his role in the movie Man of Steel, seems to be going seriously downhill as of late. Once famous for being a great actor and producer, now seems to have been derailed by his own ego. Long and interesting article about how he butts heads with people like Taylor Sheridan.

"There's a long list of people in Hollywood who swear they'll never work with Costner again. And they all have their reasons. He doesn't always pay his bills on time — one since-settled lawsuit alleged hundreds of thousands in unpaid costume fees. He burns through relationships — like his longtime producing partner, whom he sued for $15 million. He ignores advice, even from folks like Steven Spielberg. He rewrites scripts without warning, overrules directors and on more than one occasion has clashed with his co-stars — including Clint Eastwood, Kurt Russell … and Wes Bentley."

He is probably a jerk with a big ego. But some of that got him unparalleled success at one point.

He's a legendary prick, this is already well known.

He's also a legendarily wooden actor, though this has made him perfectly suited for some roles.

I liked Horizon quite a bit, though he is playing a character waaaaaaay younger, presumably the story would have aged up. But as basically a giant independent project, it was pretty awesome. Hope part 2 gets released and 3&4 get made.

If Costner is hard to work with, I think he has the track record to back it. Sheridan likes his shows a very specific way, I think he's gotten better at picking actors who share his vision. But no question Costner helped Yellowstone get traction with his loooooooooooong track record of westerns. People have forgotten Costner was in better things than they will ever hope to be in.

80s and 90s Costner was a beast. Wolves, Robin Hood, Untouchables, JFK .. then came Waterworld and Postman.
I have high respect for this guy, one of my favorite actors during that time. He´s just too sure of himself now after that success. A bit "Francis Ford Coppola with Megalopolis"-crazy.

Open Range is easily my favourite Western movie. It bothers with the little details of life unlike any other one in the same genre. Like the scene with the chocolate or the dog.

It doesn't beat his performance in Man of Steel, but still very good.

A Perfect World is underrated.

That was the one when I saw a list of his movies where I thought 'I should give that a rewatch'.
I am sure he has a massive ego and can be an asshole, but that has also resulted in him going his own way and making some impressive movies that wouldn't have otherwise been made (and some shit ones). Being an asshole used to be kind of a badge of honor in Hollywood (if it resulted in critical or commercial success), but things definitely seem to have changed in that regard.

This thread is restoring my faith in... I don't know... reality maybe.

Costner is GOAT and whoever wrote this article is sub-60 IQ

Open Range is one of my favorite movies ever. I'll still never forgive him for The Postman.

I hope this thread now understands how annoying hardcore Snyderverse fans come across. Not saying OP is one, but this is how they tend to speak about the actors who have appeared in these movies.

I can 100% imagine a scenario where they also think Ben Affleck is best known for starring as Batman.

He was robbed of an Oscar for Man of Steel. The kids these days still share gifs of his most powerful acting moment. One of the most moving cinematic moments of all time, in fact.

Anyway, his last movie bored me to tears. Has the second part been released? Does he / the studio still plan to release it?

I saw Horizon part 1 in the cinema and I bought the 4K Blu-Ray. Really liked it, but the movie ended "mid res" with not a single plot point resolved. No problem, the sequel would be out a few months later but Part 2 was never released after the horrible ticket sales of Part 1. Disappointing to read that there's still no news on that front. The sequel is done, but Warner is doing nothing with it despite the popularity of Horizon Part 1 on HBO Max.

Oh, and Dances with Wolves deserved every Oscar it got. Loved that movie.

I don't even remember him in Man of Steel, the fuck?

I always think of Field of Dreams, Dances with Wolves and Robin Hood. I guess I'm out of touch with what truly propelled him to the top.

Plus He dumped Yellowstone at its peak for Horizon, believing that it would be his magnum opus.

Easy to say that the man "lost Hollywood" now.
