How much longer will my PC last for?

I bought it last year, here are the specs...

Athlon AMD 2500+
1 GB Samsung 400 DDR Ram
Saphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb (OC to XT speeds)
120 gb HD

I doubt it'll be able to play Unreal 3...

it can probably play unreal 3 just fine.

That pc should be able to last you a few more years easily. the 2500+ can be easily OC'd as well.

I would upgrade the processor for a better speed but other then that good setup. I have almost the same but with an AMD 64 3500+ and it's really good I don't plan on upgrading or getting a new PC for the next 2-3years!

You should be able to run Unreal 3, just don't expect to with all the graphical features

Don't I require a 64 based motherboard to install a 64 based processor?

Goes without saying. But if I were you, I'd make do with what you have until at least the dual core A64s hit the market. 4th Quarter I think.

Yeah you would need a new mobo and new RAM most likely. I would sit on your system other than say Hard Drive upgrades for another year at least. Nothing really groundbreaking is coming out in the processor markets for at least another year or 2. Yeah dual core is coming, but that is being integrated using current platforms and for the most part will show zero immediate gains over your set up. Over time Dual Core might show some promise, but right now there will be little to gain. Stick with what you have. Maybe a video card upgrade is necessary in the interim, but anything much faster than an X800 won't help as you will be CPU limited. Just hang tight.

It will last for as long as you want to.
I'm still using my:
AMD K6-2 500 Mhz
Geforce 2 MX 32 mb
256 mb Ram.

With no trouble at all. It plays Civ 3 Without problem.
Maybe will upgrade next year, maybe.

Fuck the tech-hype.
relax
and watch it all go by...

Upgrade when the games you want to play are unbearably slow or simply won't install. By then the next generation consoles will be here spitting out HD and you probably won't care because you'll have a 20 game backlog on the consoles.

I've been a very avid PC gamer for many many many years, but this round I'm actually not going to upgrade and see how gaming goes with a console fix.

You're set for a while with that set up. I wouldnt get a new processor the 2500 is basically the same chip as the rest of that xp line that goes up to the 3000XP. You could hold out till dual core chips come to the market imo.
