How much would getting a copy of a car key (the kind with a circuit in it) cost?

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I've got a Honda and would really like to have a second key for a road trip I'm going on in a couple days, particularly because I can be unusually absent-minded. But the fuckin thing has one of those circuits in it, so I have no idea how much that would cost. Any ideas? If it's around a hundred bucks, fuckit.

ask your dealer. i think it's usually on the order of 50 bucks or something.

oh, you should have two keys though. usually the cars come with 2 or 3 (one valet and a couple of others)

I got it used a few months ago. It came with one key. Yeah that does kind of piss me off.

Thanks though.

When you say circuit, do you mean remote controller? If so, you're going to be looking at over $100 - They fucking *love* to charge megadollar for those little babies! :(

He's talking about a transponder. It costs $75 at Nissan. $60 at most Honda locations, afaik.

85 bucks if its from your local dealer, and 65 direct from honda if you have all the info needed. Thats what a friend of mine was told by our local honda dealer.

Just be thankful you dont have a Lexus 400 dollars for a spare remote key.

he's talking about the passive ID circuits that some car keys use as a security measure, often as part of an immobilizer type device. it's implemented slightly differently per each model and make, so i can really only tell you how it works with my car (and do you really want to hear about that?).

and alpha, i don't think they're called transponders because they don't use RF, but i may be wrong. the transponder would be the security system or keyless entry remote.

thanks b'z. i guess it will be like 100, since i don't think honda will be able to get the key to him quickly enough.

Immobilizer! That's the word. Yeah, I felt like I was saying the wrong thing.
