How will EA & Activision's Xbox360 "launch window" lineup do this year?

We know Madden should do great, although maybe not quite as well as some expect , but they seems to be extended ports of games they've had for years. I have no doubt they will leave the current gen consoles way behind graphically, but will they be able to stand out with the other 360 games like Perfect Dark 0 and/or PGR 360? Maybe some other Rare titles and some Ubisoft ports as well?

Need for Speed does well on every title and it should be a good test to see how many "casual" gamers get the new xbox this year. Of course, the lineups aren't guaranteed to all have Xbox360 versions and, in fact, they will have a more limited set of titles.

Of course, anyone in the know can verify the 360 lineup if they like ;)
EA
Madden
Live
Need For Speed: Most Wanted
SSX
The Godfather
Bond: From Russia w/Love ?
Battlefield: Modern Combat ?
Medal of Honor: European Assault ?
Batman Begin ?
Burnout Revenge ?
Black ?
Harry Potter ?
Marvel Nemesis ?
Sims 2 ?

Activision
Tony Hawk
Ultimate Spider-Man
Quake 4
X-Men Legends 2 ?
Call of Duty ?
True Crime 2 ?
Fantastic Four ?

I'm going to take the easy way out and say, it all depends on how much effor they put into the 360 version, and how well the system does as a whole.

How did the first PS2 Madden do?

Not great. Of course, that had a couple of reasons.

1) Not nearly enough systems available
2) Went up against a pretty strong NFL2k1

Madden NFL 2001 PS2
Oct 2000 148,680
Nov 2000 99,310
Dec 2000 228,241
Jan 2001 110,268

That kills Madden 2002 on Xbox. But the Oct 00/Nov 01 launches didn't help matters. A lot of people had their football games in August and September, most likely.

Sales wise, I don't think they'll do too hot. The userbase is too small.

Game wise, I honestly don't expect a huge bump in multiplatform Xbox 360 games. I think we are going to be disappointed with the quality of the majority of Xbox 360 games that have their core base off of the current generation.

EA said one thing Activiison did right this gen was not to leave last gen immediately, so expect them to follow that route with Xbox360 and we probably won't see 3rd party putting a lot of effort into next gen until around PS3 & Revolution time.

Edit: Oh just re-read the thread, it's about how well the titles will do... Personally I'm not expecting Xbox360 to move too fast initially but will pick up after holiday season. But that opinion may change after seeing more what they have prepared at E3. And where do people get the idea that Ultimate Spiderman is coming for Xbox 360 :p

EA's said to be basing all their next gen engines around Xenon (like they did PS2 this gen)... I think Madden 2006 on 360 will be a comparable jump to Madden 2001 on PS2.

hard to say. Depends what other companies have games out at the time and whats released up against Zelda and Animal Crossing Online. and FFXII

I think those games will do well for the most part because 1) Xbox 360 should sell real well at launch and there should be (if what we're hearing is correct) plenty of units available and 2) people who buy the 360 will buy their multiplatform games for the 360 rather than for their ps2/xbox.

That hardly means next gen will be the focus of their business immediately.
No, they're not jumping ship early like last time... but it at the same time EA's giving 360 the same "initial push" as they gave PS2 from what I gather. People are going to be wowed by launch 360 ports even, it won't be like the "high rez" Psone ports Dreamcast was plauged with.

Same push? Interesting. EA had 6 launch titles for the US.. thought I think only 4 of those were internal 2 were just published by EA IIRC(Kessen and Swing Away)...

I think he means same kind of push, although the X360 push will naturally be bigger since EA itself is much bigger this time around.

My feeling is that yes graphically it won't be PS2 game with higher res texture. It'll be higher res model, texture, whatever. But engine itself will have enough room to be ported back to the current generation console easily (i.e. there's not going to be much code utilize more CPU just for AI and whatever if any). Going from higher res graphics back to lower res is much easier to do than the other way around. I guess you could call that "same push" but it's kind of a stepping stone all developer have to take for this transition period anyways.

well, number wise, unless there's a huge uptake on 360, I'd say not so hot. That's me being skeptical though - I personally think that MS is making a mistake and not really reading the consumer's mood. THey just got their XBOX (with sales numbers to back that up) and now they have to spend big for another console? Too soon this new launch. I could wait another year.

no one *has* to spend for 360. Microsoft is likely targetting all those hard core Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube gamers who got in early in '00-'02. Those are the ones who, Microsoft hopes, are going to be looking to upgrade by this holiday season once they see what 360 is all about and all the games it will offer.

That group makes up millions of gamers worldwide.
