how's puyo pop fever?

I've never played a puyo pop game and it's only $15 at a local shop. Should I pick this up? I love super puzzle fighter II, so if it's anything like that I'll be sure to snag it.

hated it as well. the presentation is absolutely infantile

its like it was designed to appeal to a ten year old girl. in which case, they succeeded admirably

Same here. The game plays great as always, but the presentation/music sucks. Stick with other versions of Puyo Puyo.

1) I can't get used to the new system, so I always play the game on classic mode
2) why the fuck is this game only 2-player? Even the gamecube (and presumably x-box) versions are 2-player. I know the game was probably designed for PS2 first, but they should have had the decency to add a 4-player mode like they had in puyo puyoon.

Very deep puzzle game that will take you a while to master. I play once in a while with my friend on GC and DS (who mastered the game since Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on Genesis) and I get my ass kicked pretty often.

As for the presentation, once you know the characters you can't deny the fact that some of them are great. With quotes like: "You can lick my boot!", "Call the fashion police!" and "Talk to the hand!" and some annoying voices like "Ribbit Ribbit!!!", you'll enjoy it even more.

I bought Puyo Pop Fever for the GameCube the day it came out in the US (one of 337 people that month, IIRC :lol ) , dutifully, as a fan of the franchise. I must admit that I have NOT yet opened or played it. I absolutely love Puyo Pop for the GBA, however!

Actually the game is converted from NAOMI IIRC, and even came out on the Dreamcast. But that doesn't even matter. Puyo Puyo 4 for the Dreamcast came out back in '99 and was 4P simultaneous. Puyo Puyo Sun (IIRC) on the N64 was 4P simultaneous. The GBA Puyo Pop is 4P simultaneous, and Puyo Fever on the DS is up to 8 players simultaenous. No excuse for any of the console versions to only be 2P.

Now THERE'S A REAL SHOCKER from Meijilan. :lol

The old Puyo Puyo style and characters were better, but Fever is the most balanced Puyo to date. You can now prevent huge attacks from dropping in 2-player by constantly chaining, and then even cancel the attack totally by triggering Fever. It makes for very good 2-player matches.

In the old Puyo games, a huge attack would mean almost certain death as you only had one move to try and cancel it. So Puyo Puyo Fever just edges out Puyo Puyo Sun in my books as the best one in the series. It did very well in Japan, so who knows we might get a follow-up to Fever where they bring all the old characters back.

I'm personally not a fan of 4-player Puyo, as the game is more like a fighting-game and that works best 1-on-1. The 4-player modes in Puyo's like the DC version were too random, so your attacks were spread out against the other people you were playing rather than you choosing someone to attack. So that meant weak players are always knocked out first. It's a mess. Actually, everything about the DC version was a mess - special attacks, NO!
