Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Engadget Article!

Basically they priced dropped things by $2 for the official launch, and are gonna refund people for the extra 2 bones in the preview period. They also added in some Roku support now for the "official" launch.

The question is will you subscribe now that's it only $7.99 GAFers?

They don't have all of Chuck s4 up? Booooooooooo!

Oh well, I'll probably use the 1 month trial to watch Raising Hope and some other shows I'm behind on and then cancel.

It's really appalling looking at Hulu Plus's selection. They don't seem to have much of anything, especially when compared to Netflix's TV selections...

It's more for current network/cable shows more than anything.

I signed up for it yesterday. Gonna try it out for awhile since I don't cable service in my apartment. I've been using my Playstation but it's nice that it's coming to Roku, should be much better. It's cool being able to watch TV shows in HD as they come out as opposed to when the season DVD releases like on Netflix.

Their selection isn't the greatest though $8 a month is definitely more in-line with their service than $10.

I would have said no until I saw that I can do it through my PS3. I'll at leave give the trial a go and see how well it works.

I'll have to dig through to see exactly what they support. If it is sufficient though, I may bite. I'm considering dropping TV for a bit to see how I get by.

I don't think I'll be getting this.

As far as I can tell you still have to wait until the day after something airs to watch, and you still have to deal with ads. If I'm wrong on either of these counts then let me know...

I've considered subbing so I can use it on my PS3, but it seems like it might be made redundant by Netflix and my cable's On-Demand service.

maybe someday

I've been along since preview, this coupled with Netflix...and I shit canned Cable. Nice monthly savings.

There's still no watching something as it airs, no. But "appointment TV" shows are few and far between for most people these days. DVRs have drastically changed viewing habits.

I thought free Hulu was for that and that Hulu Plus was for old TV shows? At least, that's what I was told in the last thread about Hulu Plus.

Instead of just the last 4-5 episodes, it offers the entire current season of certain shows.

If they only had everything on hulu.com available with hulu+ it would be a pretty compelling service..... as it stands right now its a shadow of even hulu.com let alone netflix. The major advantage they have over netflix (in general) is current seasons. If they had that and all the cable networks on hulu.com it would be a pretty big success.

I can't justify paying for such low bitrates images. This is a joke, it's like going back ten years in terms of visual fidelity. Anyone who watches this in their hdtv and thinks it looks great is kidding themselves.

To top this off, comcast now has a similar service for people using their internet service. It's called xfinity and it even has, gasp, viacom content. It's still shit quality but it doesn't cost me anymore.

Still not interested but seems like a pretty big coup for Roku. Neither AppleTV nor Google TV have Hulu, correct? Good advertising angle for Roku if so. Even if Hulu+ isn't nearly as good as normal Hulu, most consumers probably don't know that, and Roku can sell it on the name.

Hulu Plus is going to basically all set-top boxes. It's the point of it.

Not having regular Hulu content included with Hulu Plus is the dumbest thing ever.

It might have something to do with the individual networks and rights, not Hulu's fault.

Or something. Maybe. Who knows.

This I don't understand. It baffles me.

The ad's aren't bad, considering they're like, 15 seconds. I don't have cable, so these short quick commercials don't bother me in the slightest.

What does bother me, however, is the fact that I am forced to watch some stuff with HORRIBLE audio / video sync problems. Sometimes the video is as far as one second ahead of the audio. It's seriously irritating.

I dropped cable about two months ago. Have Netflix streaming on every TV in the house and NBA League Pass on my computer. If this gets console support I'm all over it.

It's lacking.
If you think that's lacking, you should see it in Canada. It's been operational for nearly 2 years and they've still failed to expand to a single country outside of the US...

but then how do you watch Football?

I saw this on Engadget and went to see if they had Modern Family season one. I missed a few episodes and want to watch them. If they did I was ready to sign up. They don't.

It's just a bit of a mess right now. Lots of holes, and content can be yanked at a moment's notice.

Nice to have a price drop and on my Roku, but still no sale with a subscription fee+ads
Pretty much. Even though I'm not interested in any of their shows I'd still buy it just to support alternative models of buying and viewing content; except for the love of god, no ads.

I was looking at NHL Gamecenter earlier today. $160, and you still have to deal with blackouts. And their blackout restriction is *48 hours* compared to 90 minutes for MLB.tv.

My lord...I just looked through the list of shows available on Hulu Plus and I'm extremely underwhelmed. I use Hulu to watch Hell's Kitchen and Nikita (which actually just links over to the CW website) or to catch House or Lie to Me if I miss them. Since HK and Nikita won't be available on Plus I don't have any need for this, which is too bad because I'd love to stream Hulu to my PS3.

i would subscribe if they had all the shows from the discovery channel and national geographic channel on there.

So--- they still have ads for $8 bucks a month?

If not, world's biggest joke.

The ad's aren't bad at all. You get a 20 second ad prior to the show, then a 10 second ad between breaks. It's so short that it's hardly inconvenient.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Hulu isn't the only pay service that is supplemented by advertisements, and I don't see why that would make it a joke.

The point is... you pay--- you don't get ads. That and lack of content and previous seasons....Until someone or some company figures this out, they can shove it.

I don't mind ads, but not being able to see all Hulu content kills it. Give me access to all of Hulu, and I'll pay and accept the ads you toss at me.

Cable is 50 plus bucks a month and still has ads. More ads than Hulu. Netflix has nothing recent, and almost nothing streaming.

People pay for:

Cable
Internet
Sat. Radio
XBL
PSN+

Even the movies you take home on DVD/Blu-Ray have Ads.

The ads are hardly a problem, especially considering they're far less intrusive and shorter than nearly every other product or service.

Cable is worthless.... OTA is king, Ads on Hulu when you pay for content is moronic, Netflix has streaming quality and to some degree content is heads above Hulu.

And the sheeple will never become wiser sadly.
