Wow at the satellite image of Ian right now. Looks like its finishing the ERC and convection is just exploding. Mother Nature is beautiful yet terrifying.

Just had Fiona rip though us here in Nova Scotia. Luckily only had cosmetic damage to our place. Lots of neighbours with trees smashed into their homes, utility poles and wires down all over and still tons of areas with no power (we were out for 3 days). I'll probably end of getting a generator, these storms seem to be getting worse.

I bought a generator this spring when our house got hit by high winds. We only lost power for a few hours. A few places were without for a few days. I haven't fired the thing up yet, but this hurricane might be enough of a scare.

Because a slowed down storm can be way worse than something that blows through quick. #harvey

You better at least test it, as well as make sure it can run (and you have the cables/breakers to support) whatever you expect it to in a safe way. Better find out the issues now versus when you have no other options. Lay in some fuel as well.

Exactly. Now I just needs to convince the lazy side of me. I did wait until a major storm before buying one, despite wanting to buy one since before we bought our house.

the nice thing with the generator is that it takes gasoline & propane. So I can get a propane tank and just let it sit.

We had a wind storm a couple years back that knocked out our power for about 12 hours, and we were the lucky ones. My sister lives about 10 minutes north and had hers out for a week. Luckily they already had a nice diesel generator they could run all week to keep their food from spoiling and run their heater at night.

We’ll probably get one around the same time as we get a new camper, just for such emergencies. I’m thinking one that can run off gasoline, propane and natural gas though.

Best video I found last night of 1 of the many Tornado’s from SFL. This was, what looks to be the worst, in Delray Beach/ Kings point.

I know a bit about tornados, and I am guessing from damage pictures (flipped cars, destroyed apartments) probably a high ef2, maybe a lower end ef3 - but not sure if official reports are out yet or not.
