I know Dan Simmons is problematic now a days but Hyperion is still a sci fi masterpiece. Incredible work

I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but.......... Spikey man watches tiny boat on a grassy field.
Spikey man is one of the most metal as fuck monster things in literature.

I liked the first book more than the second. I need to give the others a shot
pun intended

I love all the books, one of my top 3 series - While of Time, Culture Series and Hyperion Saga. - The 3 Armed GOAT.

Gets weird near the end of the saga but i liked it.

Is that the one where the space inquisition uses techno-crucifixes in order to resurrect it's crusaders after being turned into bloody pulp due to the insane acceleration of their FTL drive?
So in order to get around, they literally have to die, each time becoming more and more devout, but also stunted and deformed.

Hyperion is good stuff and metal as f*ck!

Not too familiar with this series but the premise sounds really interesting.
Will put it on the list to check it out after I'm done with the the Stormlight Archive series

Why is Dan Simmons problematic now? Did people try to get him canceled or something?

Edit: Seems he said some mean things about Greta Thunberg on facebook about her being a spoiled brat and people got upset.

I have read all the Hyperion books.
The first one was fantastic and memorable! Next 2 were decent. But the 4th book bored me.

I also greatly enjoyed his Ilium/Olympos! I feel that one is more of a guilty pleasure. Since the concept is a bit silly. But I still really enjoyed it. And the first book has one of the greatest cliff hangers ever. I couldn't wait to buy the next book and I started it immediately.

I know they are turning Hyperion into a movie. Very curious how that goes. I am prepared for it having very little to do with the source material though. Because there is only so much you can explain in a 2 hour film. And Hyperion has so much insane stuff. Even just the resurrection machines part could be a movie by itself.

Thanks for the recommendation M Mister Apoc

I‘ve had some great book recommendations over the years from here so I’ve ordered it straight away.

I'll echo the thanks.

I ordered a later print, '17 I think, because I saw an example from the '90 one and the lettering (?) looked rough and it's already a small book.. Very curious!

I had this book and had started to read it but lost it somewhere along the way. I need to get back into the reading game.

It took me a second reading to get into it. I read it once then a second time and followed it up with the other books. I found them very compelling and loved the questions it was addressing with Christianity and AI. good stuff.

I highly recommend "A Song for Lya" from George R. Martin, just amazing short novel. It also won the Hugo Award for Best Novella.
