Ever since I came back to Upstate SC, I've been entranced by 95.7 FM out of Charlotte. They changed formats while I was at college, and it's the best thing I've heard in a long time. It's everything that commercial radio isn't. Every hour or so, they play their "mission statement":
"Welcome to The Ride. On this ride, there is no hype. No silly DJs, no stupid contests. On this ride, it's all about the music: your music. The way it was is the way it is. The way FM radio was meant to be. 95.7 FM The Ride... Let the music begin."
And the music is great. Hendrix, Clapton, Steely Dan, Beatles, Police, Stones, Pink Floyd, Chicago, Who, CCR, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Bob Dylan, Jim Croce, Allman Bros... the list goes on and on. It's all played with a minimum of interruption. There are only about 10 minutes of commercials per hour, and the DJs usually only chime in to identify some of the more obscure stuff. They play the full versions of most of the longer songs, too. Chicago's "Dialogue" went the whole way through parts I and II!
If you live anywhere close to Charlotte, tune in. Spires and Krantz isn't on WBT anymore, so there's no excuse. Such a great station seems too good to last, so listen while you can.
