In the Netherlands we recently had a very confronting campaign to raise awareness of ALS:

("In the meantime I passed away")

And commercials like these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0Q6biSW9tY (explaining what ALS is, asking to donate. Not for him, because he already passed away by the time you see this)

Call me a cynical bastard, but I don't think highly about the people who couldn't give a shit seeing these commercials on tv and billboards, but do care now when people pour ice water on them. Good that there is extra money, but it's a shame it has to be in a way where people want to be in the spotlight themselfs and making it a 'fun thing to do'. The image of a celeb means more than looking in the eyes and listening to the words of a dying person and that just makes me sad.

Because people get more encouragement from fun than being called heartless bastards.

Giving a shit doesn't fund ALS research, donations do. Considering this caused a huge spike in donations, I'd consider it a net positive.

You're less a cynical bastard and more an uptight hipster, I'd say. Who cares when people found out about it or started to care about ALS? This is good for them on all fronts

But guuuuyyyyyyss it makes me sad :(. When faced with a viral campaign that raises over $20 million my first thought is of my own personal annoyance.

People die everyday. When I get terminally ill from some debilitating disease, I won't expect the whole world to weep for me or even feel the slightest tinge of emotion. And you bet your buttocks I won't get offended that people would rather do some silly thing like dump ice water on themselves to raise money for said previously noted terminal and debilitating disease rather than listen to my story.

When it comes to donations...
Making people happy > Trying to depress guilt trip people. I didn't understand the video though. But money is money is money is money. Another depressing video isn't going to suddenly bring in millions of dollars now is it? I say, if you care about the cause, you don't care where the money comes from. Marketing is everywhere and it's a necessity for everything.

That being said, these gifs are funny and how many hours do BishLore have?

Well done OP. Sincerely. There's no chance in hell I'd do that. Not the ice challenge, but the video of it. Can't wait to see the responses. Evilore and Bish, you know you want GAF to see your glorious abs through your wet t-shirts.
