I had Krispy Kreme for the first time in about 15 years and I've changed my opinion on it

Tbh buying them at the grocery store cannot be compare to buying them at the Kristy Kreme store where you can actually watch them make it fresh.

I see these being sold in Tesco for £2.40 just for one.

Lidl sells the same types for 79p. I can't stomach forking that amount for one shitty donut.

But my local supermarket started carrying them, so I bought a box a couple days ago when shopping and it did not live up to my memory of them. They tasted really cheap, lacking flavor and lacking density. I wanted to be fair though, so yesterday I stopped by Dunkin Donuts when I was out, bought a Boston Cream donut. I gotta say I liked Dunkin's boston cream donut more.

I can no longer sing the praises of Krispy Kreme that they are way better than Dunkin and other local convenience store donut chains. My verdict is both are very meh.

(If you want a truly great donut, then you gotta go to a smaller local donut shop if you have them in your city)

You bought grocery store krispy kremes and then decided to compare them to a fresh donut from Dunkin'. What the fuck did you expect?

Go to a KK in the AM and eat a couple fresh glazed and watch that erection grow.... and then go to DD's, try one of theirs and watch your dick shrink as if you put a condom on it.

Our local great donuts were owned by a great Korean family. A couple of years ago they sold to Mexican Donut makers and they are just not the same, smaller fritters, not as friendly, and they don't talk to you. The Korean lady would talk and if you picked a filled donut, they would put the cream or the jelly in in front of you. You haven't really enjoyed a donut until you saw the raspberry filling get squeezed in while you wait a second.
Mexicans should stay in their churro lane and leave the donuts to the Asians.

Honestly, having tasted both, I wouldn't be shocked if the Krispy was fresher. I think the Dunkin was probably sitting out a while and I got the Krispy box in the morning and I think they're freshly made and delivered every morning. If I had to bet, the Dunkin was sitting out longer than the Krispy.

First to the bolded: No :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Dude, KK's out of a damn grocery store box are a completely different Krispy Kreme donut experience compared to actually going into one their shops and eating one fresh. The shit literally melts in your mouth.

And miss me with that microwaving some day old and thinking it's just as a good as a freshie. I know all the tricks.

And thankfully, that's one of the few small businesses that are now thriving. We've got a couple near us in a small town in Ga, both great.

But I wouldn't change your opinion on what you remember the Krispy Kreme doughnuts tasting like years ago. It's the change of ingredients that's gone way down hill. They used to truly be great, at least when I was kid (45 years ago). But yeah, in the past 10 or so years, all sweet treats have this weird, unnatural sweetness. Not sure what it is, but I make my own stuff at home for the past 15 years. My body can't tolerate that store-bought/fast-food stuff.

In the 80s and early 90s in Massachusetts dunkin donuts was God tier. They're big commercial slogan was "gotta rise and make the donuts". They stopped doing that sometime around 2000.

They are my least favorite big donut store. The quality has fallen off a cliff. They are frozen and shipped in and taste only slightly better than grocery store doughnuts (ok that's hyperbole but I cant emphasize enough how bad they taste now).

When my mom was in hospice she turned me on to Honey Dew donuts. I don't know if they were a NE regional business but id imagine they taste like Tim Hortons, which I've never had

Btw where does Yum Yum Donuts fit on this list? I never had one but i always loved the name.

I grew up on lightly mortified grocery store clearance donuts and was happy to have them.

I, too, had Krispy Kreme (grocery store box) for the first time again in about 15 years just the other week, and they were just as sinfully delicious as I remember them.

Is yum yum donuts a chain? We have one in our area... it's like stepping back in time, donuts are made fresh daily, when they are sold out that's all... place is usually closed by 1pm.

I make my own doughnuts, pussy.

Seeing people lined up around the block made me laugh.

They are far too sugary for me and I'm a donut eater.

This thread makes me miss Tim Hortons and Timbits. When KK opened here, they had 3-4 hour drive through queues. Now they are everywhere and pretty dead most the time. They also don't sell the standard chocolate donut with the white power on the outside.

One final rage, KK got rid of the donut with icing inside here too. WTF man. It's all about expensive crazy donuts with too much shit on top.
