I have a gameplay question about GTA:SA

Agent Icebeezy

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
Everybody I know has had some difficulty with the flight school portion. With me, it was due to the Dualshock and the closeness of the sticks. I can't play FPS games on PS2 because of it. My thumbs rub. I have a few people(PS2 only owners, btw) say that we lacked proper patience. I don't buy that. So now, they is a bet present that the Xbox version will remedy this.

My question is if you had issues with this part of the game, explain why, thanks.

1) Jeez, How big are your thumbs? Why are they rubbing together when you're using both sticks?

2) You don't need to use both sticks for any of the flight stuff in the game. All the controls are on the left stick, the triggers, and the face buttons.

I had some trouble with the later flight school lessons, the one where you had to fly around the airstrip and hit all of the coronas furstrated me for a while.

I don't think it has anything to do with the PS2 controller's design though, GTA's engine just doesn't seem like it handles flying well at all. Controlling most planes is floaty and the slightest tilt of the sticks seemed to send the damn things wobbling out of control.

It also seemed like a questionable design decision to force you to complete the flight school before progressing with the game. But that's just my opinion.

I seriously have no idea why people had trouble at all with any of the schooling missions. They were all a piece of piss - the easiest for me was by far the boat, with the plane ones coming at a close 2nd.

I spent about an hour fiddling on my girlfriend's sister's copy and passed them all with Gold. Was quite fun when I showed her what the Hunter was haha.

As for the plane controls, they're pretty simple as long as you don't over-do the movements.

Yeah, the schools were super easy. Almost TOO easy. I got Gold in every single lesson with only a few playthroughs.

Also, my fingers have never "rubbed together" with the analog sticks on the Dual Shock 2. Ever. No more nachos for anyone with hands that large!

So fucking stupid. They give you some shit plane that handles like a fucking horse drawn carriage. Then the missions you need a plane they are all great planes that handle well. You don't even need any flying lessons. What a gyp.

*cough*

Flying planes in the school and completing those missions boosts your flying skill dramatically. After you're done, handling planes SHOULD feel better.

My thumbs knock if they're both on the thumbsticks. My hands aren't fat at all, just large.

I played all of the flightschool from 3rd person perspective. I don't have any mad gaming skills, but I beat it all after a few tries. Once you learn how to fly the plane, its really enjoyable. That's all it is really, the game is fine, you just need to learn.

if you take the shit plane or the toy plane out again it still handles like shit

The cessna and the fighter plane handle great.

I haven't made it there yet, but i beat that mission with Zero where you have to fly that little RC airplane. The controls of that plane make controls in Acclaim games feel great. (If you've ever played a wrestling game from them, you know what i'm talking about :p)

Everyone must really suck (<<hyperbole), because not only did I beat the "Supply Lines" mission on my second try, but in general controlling planes always seems too easy.

I agree, if anything some of the hardest vehicles to control are certain cars that love to slide around.

Wow that must suck. The flight school was extrtemely easy for me. I did however spend about 3 hours trying to complete the motorcycle school part where you jump and ride the stopie. Landing the bike in the exact right postion is almost impossible.

They'll probably make flyign a bit easier for those who can't do it.. I had no problems with flight school, my problem was with that race across the city without damaging your car under 2 minutes in driving school. :|

Some of the worst flight controls in a game ever. The flight training missions had me swearing at the television in anger. Then again I've never played a flight sim, so perhaps those with experience with flight sims found it much easier.

Nah, don't play flight sims. Still found it absurdly easy.

I somehow got through the plane missions but couldn't get past the helicopter training. No crosshairs or any sort of depth indicator made shooting a huge pain in the ass. Plus, the fact that the camera doesn't follow helicopter when you turn it adds another level of frustration to the missions. This thing could seriously use a 1st person cockpit view.

It pissed me off so much, I haven't played the game since. My best attempts only landed me about 70%. But if the missions later in the game have better controlling flight vehicles, maybe I should start playing it again. Maybe.

It's strange how a couple of those flight training missions were the only real holdups I had through the whole game.

Since we're talking about GTA:SA did anyone else think that the main story missions were for the most part upsurdly easy?

It seems to me that from GTA III to Vice City to San Andreas the missions have been steadily declining in difficulty (though their are many more of them now).

I never had a problem with the flying in the school, but 7 times out of 10 I couldn't land the fucking plane without it going up in flames and exploding.
