I have a question about Blackjack and cant seem to find an answer, anyone?

So a couple of friends of mine have made a bet about Blackjack (the card game), I used to play a little a few years ago and am pretty comfortable with the rules however I could be wrong.

They are saying you can bet on the person next to you? I think i've seen this before, if that player Doubles Down, and I think thats the only way you can bet on someone next to you, but they argue that you can bet in the player next to you regardless.

So which is it? I've googled this a ton and still cant seem to find an anser.

.I know this is extremelly offtopic, but cant seem to find anything anywhere.

In Vegas you can’t do this. At least I’ve never seen it.

I’m not retarded so I’ve never personally tried.

In standard blackjack you can only bet on yourself and, in a single rare instance the dealer.

double down is simply doubling your bet for 1 additional card. This ends your turn and you cannot get anymore cards after a double down. This is different than hitting since you can continue to hit if you wish.

then comes the only instance you can bet on another person who happens to be the dealer. If the dealer has an ace showing, the table will have the option of buying insurance. This insurance bet pays out if the dealer gets blackjack with their hidden card.

I have never done it but im 100% sure i have seen it done, once my wife and i were playing and there was a guy alternating between backing her and me on different hands, the dealer had no issue with it. *edit* chips were placed to the side of ours and some kind of acknowledgement from the dealer was required*

This was years ago and in a tourist casino before we saw Pendulum so my memory could be flawed.

I think it depends on the casino. I do it when me and my bro play together and I'm short or he's short to double down.
