I own a website, a very popular website, which I won't reveal at this time. Recently we exceeded our bandwith by almost 400 gb, well our awesome hosting company changed the damn overage rate from $.60 to almost $1.50 leaving me with a nice $2000 fine plus my normal hosting rate. I set up a donation box and we've collected well over $500 but its not enough. Truthfully, I am completely out of ideas. I need to resolve this or I am going to have a lawsuit on my ass.

Someone, I beg, give me some advice, I need to do something....

Yeah, well I've shut down quite a bit of the site and only leave the necessities up, if I close the entire site, there goes the site's future donations. As of now I can only pay about $500 out of pocket.

Well, I'm not a direct owner, I'm a co-owner/maker, I pay partial fees and do the design for the website. We had all content down for a while, ensuring we dont exceed bandwith even further. Since we raised alot of money, we have put most of the content back on including the videos on different servers than our own, but like I said we still owe quite a bit more with no sign of relief.

Just pay it off on a CC or something.

Then every subsequent month, keep asking for donations. Pretty soon you'll be able to pull a PGC and fly first class, etc. :lol

You know, hosts should shut off your site the second it hops the bandwidth barrier.
After that point, they should ask if you want to continue for that month and pay the fine later or ask if you want to do some sort of rollover where you dip into the next months bandwidth.

It's stupid to just let it go and then charge you. Did they at least give you the ability to view your bandwidth used?

I can check my current bandwidth usage at any time, but thats not the point, I knew we exceeded bandwitch, but the fact that they changed the fucking rate by that much is what suprised the hell out of me. That's fucking insane. I also had no clue a certain movie I was using would take my bandwith limit and throw it out the window.

Elaborating more on the video, we had over 200,000 hits on it. You can imaging what that did. Both myself and my co-owner were in awe, we were actually happy until I got our bill in the mail today. My older sister there may be a limit as how much a company can raise a rate without rewriting the terms of service, but I am not knowlegable in the legal field, so all I can do right now is try to raise as much money as possible.

Why wont you reveal the name of the site?

Simple, I have to keep the hits to a minimum right now without shutting the site down, I have a feeling some of you know what it is anyway. But we are in deep shit right now. I am tempted to shut the site down completely but I need those damn donations, which are deeply appreciated.

The obvious question is how are you making income from the site?

What you need to do is not try and increase traffic but increase conversions rates (CPC ads, affilate sales etc.) for you existing traffic to try and meet or exceed current costs.

You may already be running both but unless you have placements optimised you're not reaching your full earnings potential.

PM me your link and I'll give you some rudimentary advice on how to implement or increase earnings.
