I have an interesting XBOX360 Predicament

I have a projector... and I home theatre as well. The projector is old, but I was told it COULD handle 1080i signals through the VGA port. So I bought the component to VGA converter from ebay, and got a 1080i xbox game (mx unleashed) and it said "out of range" I gave up.

Then today I was reading about how the 360 can do resolutions and forced 1080i, so I gave it another whirl... this time with my laptop. I put the laptop to 800x600 (the highest my projector will go) and it worked perfectly!

So here is the question:

Will the 360 work on my projector with the VGA cable... and is it worth it over RCA cables if the best I can do is 800x600?

800x600p will look better then 480p, probably not like night and day though. The only way to know for sure is to hook it up and see if it is enough difference to you.

Now, does the projector accept other resolutions and downgrade them? if not it may not even work.

It does not downgrade, because I had to put it down to 800x600 for it to show up.

REMEMBER.... its not like I can do 420p... the only HD option is this at 1080i, so the question is... is it worth the 40 bux for the cord, or just use RCA cables?

I think mine's in a similar situation...it's a ViewSonic. I know I can send hires signals to it and it can supersample it to the projector's 800 by 600 resolution.

The 360 VGA cable is supposed to have various outputs, so if your projector can't resolve 848x480 or higher, there's always 480p you could fall back on... which would be better than just using composite (480i). So, I'd say it's worth it.

BTW, have you tried setting your laptop to a higher res than 800x600 when connected to your projector?

Yea, it didnt work... does that mean that 848x480 wont work?
