It is a mild discomfort at best... I never take sedation. Even for my cranioplasty I wanted to be fully awake.

It's different for each person. Some feel nothing and others scream in pain. I have female friends that say it was more painful than when they gave birth.

The cause of the pain for me wasn't the actual probe, but they have to inflate your colon with air. It was so painful that they had to stop after ten minutes. As soon as the air stopped pumping, the pain vanished.

I don't know about the age thing. I'm in my thirties, I had to have one because I pooped blood.

Drinking the gallon of saline solution to clean out my digestive tract was fucking agonizing. The taste of light salt water was a lingering and horrible palate killer was like torture, because I was so fucking hungry, but the smell of food alone was enough to make me gag.

BTW they inflate you with air or CO2 gas (since otherwise the colon will be folded and they won't see anything) so expect to pass a lot of gas after the procedure.

I’ve had an endoscopy before and my stomach was kinda sore and I had lots of gas.

Yeah I've had the throat one so that they could do a biopsy of my stomach lining.
I didn't opt for sedation as I had to go back to work afterwards and it was not particularly comfortable.
