This generation of MS consoles is awesome to me, I like Quick Resume feature so much! The store have so many games to buy, and sales are pretty often. It has the features in software and hardware to enhance my total view of appreciation

Honestly I had no issues with the console. It was well designed and quiet. My issues were:
1. I preferred PS5 games and eco system.
2. I bought it thinking I would use it in combination with my PC and play some games on it with the play anywhere option however it just didn't happen.
3. Game pass is weak as far as I am concerned, I still have it on PC but don't play much on it.

In the end I sold it and bought a steam deck which is a perfect compliment to both my PC and PS5. Would be incredible if you could stream gamepass via PC to it but that is a step too far I think.

Anyhow not a bad console, just not for me.

I mean its not they don't have console exclusives. Its more that they haven't found a proper stride this generation outside of offering Game Pass. They had their chances with Halo Infinite and Starfield; which were supposed to be massive and forever games. But they both failed to meet expectations and barely made an impact upon release. And the rest of the games aren't really mainstream enough like AOE, MSFS and other games like Pentiment, Hellblade 2 and Psychonauts.

If we had a good FPS with Perfect Dark, TPS with Gears, and an epic Fable earlier in the generation maybe that could've helped. But right now its feels too little, too late. Which is why they're just moving onto the next after some games already deep in development - Indy and Doom.

I'm talking about exclusives in general. If you have a PC, then there's no reason to own an Xbox unless you REALLY want to play Halo 5 or FM5. They're also beginning to port stuff to PS5 as well, which makes this even worse. And the quality of their first party titles hasn't been the greatest so far.

As others have probably said here already: it's not the hardware, which is actually a great piece of tech the same as the PS5 for the money it costs. It's more an issue with Microsoft, how they treat their studios, own games, their product policies, their entire business plan that seem to change on a monthly basis and leave many core gamers uncertain about the future and their investments into that eco system.

There's also an argument that could be made that their whole Game Pass plan won't work out for them in the long run and will ultimately hurt studios and as a ultimate result the players, too.

It's great piece of hardware and wanted one so fucking bad back in 2021 when Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite dropped, but it was very hard at the time to get one at MSRP due to Covid shortages.

Finally got one last December when I found a good deal on it and I'm very happy with it. Played Cyberpunk 2077 & Phantom Liberty, Persona 3 Reload, Hellblade 2, Jusant, Planet of Lana, Banishers and some BC titles like Half Life 2 and Gears of War Judgement.

I think Spiderman sells well because of the install base....but is not the main driver of the install base. Most of the current exclusive franchises(outside of like GT) were not the reason PS1 and PS2 sold well...but that's when Playstation got a foothold around the globe in terms of brand. Xbox One hardware debacle just kind of reverted the global sale ratios back to the PS1/PS2 era and that was it...they lost their chance to hold/improve the gains with the 360 and now people are locked more than ever into the ecosystems.

I personally don't look at Sony exclusives and think these are head and shoulders better than Xbox exclusives. Maybe it's just because I'm a fan of shooters but even then I'd still rather play Forza over GT.

Flight Sim is cool but pretty niche. Hellblade II was a 6/10 at best. Barely a game even. Stalker II is not out yet, neither is Indy btw. I hope both of them will be good but I doubt they'll be 10/10.

Game pass, while "revolutionary" in the beginning as an idea, is a cancer that spread quickly, conditioning its userbase in not spending a dime in actual games due to the "if it's not on GP I won't bother" mentality.

Again, lovely hardware (so silent/quiet), some really nice features (QR, BC) but terrible everything else.

Personally, I'm happy to have exited their terrible ecosystem, nowadays I prefer to actually buy the games I'm interested in and not getting fed the ones a sub service provides.

It doesn't have to be an either or. Gamepass is great for exclusives and can be turned on and off as needed. I do it on PC and played a lot of games I wouldn't have otherwise. I still get exclusive PS5 and Switch Games and multiplats that aren't on Gamepass.

It’s the general lack of big first-party AAA. That’s it. It’s a valid criticism, but for me it doesn’t really impact. It’s been missing from Xbox platforms for quite a while now. I’ve gotten used to it, happy enough with my Series X for Game Pass, great back compat, and all the third party stuff like MH and Elden Ring. Plus I vastly prefer the Xbox controller layout and design, and Series is the best yet by far.

I have a PS5, but I've played on my friend's XSX and it's wonderful. While I love my Dualsense controller, the Xbox controller always sits much better in my hand. And you can't beat Gamepass. I think no matter which console you choose you'll have tons of fun. You just need to decide which factors are more important and for me it was the possibility to play Spider-Man and Ghost of Tsushima(which has been somewhat negated by them coming to PC of course). I'd love to have a yearly subscription to Gamepass on PS5 as there are so many smaller games that I seem to miss.

Why exclusivity is so important?

Because history shows that without a compelling reason, people won't change their buying habits and so will stick with Nintendo and Sony.

The only way to change those market forces is either consistently selling the product at a significantly cheaper price, over a sustained period of time, than your competitors or having exclusive software which is so compelling that they can't be ignored.

There is very little negativity around the series hardware itself. It has proven reliable, quiet, reasonably compact, and priced in line with competing systems (except that overpriced 2TB SKU).

Following that logic, why would anyone bother with either when you can just get a PC. All first party games looking and playing better, typically cheaper, no online play costs, and all the games PC has that aren’t on console. But some people just prefer a console and that’s fine.

I prefer the controller and UI of my Series X so I play almost everything on that. Also not everyone cares much for Sony first party. Personally this gen they have made exactly one game I thought was really good and that was Returnal.

Also the whole “less third party games” narrative is console war nonsense. Outside of money hat deals Xbox gets almost all of the same games except niche Japanese nonsense Xbox and PS owners don’t care much about. You look at the sales and play charts for the consoles and everyone is playing the same slop.

I like the hardware and have had XSX and PS5 since launch. The issue is really that if you have PC, there is not much point in XSX except for BC.

That said I still do use XSX for BC and I do have some Xbone games in the library as well as a few XSX. I really disliked the way XS disks got distributed in first couple of years though since anything cross gen requires a download vs being able to buy an actual PS5 copy.

This got corrected but for physical collectors first couple years of this gen with Xbox sucked.

Anyways, great hardware, shit support from MS but there are still good reasons to have it if you don’t have a PC.

I'm a pc guy but if I had to choose a console I would choose the series x. nintendo is the only one with great first party games though. The reason I would choose xbox over ps is because the console isn't ugly and big like ps5 and the controller looks a lot better, the two tone style on the ps5 controller is really ugly. I also always thought xbox had the better interface, it feels and looks less boring and has more life to it.

Question for Xbox owners about the much-touted Quick Resume feature. If I want to pause playing a game on PS5, I put the console into Rest mode. Then, a couple hours later when I want to resume, I turn the console on, and I'm back in the game at the same point. How does the Quick Resume feature differ from this?

I love my series X too. But it’s obvious MS is the problem. They own all these IP and studios and they are putting their games every where instead of keep g them exclusive and competing with Sony. It gives people the impression that MS is no longer invested in Xbox even though they clearly are and can afford to do things like what they are doing…… but they do things that continually weaken Xbox as a brand as BD as a platform…… no way I would have killed off, tango and arkane Austin, no way I would have forced them to make a game like redfall. No way I would be putting games like indy on other consoles. But that’s me. If I run a business it’s to compete with others.

True but the problem for an Xbox owner is you can’t play your back log on PC. I’m glad I have both. As MS products I see my Xbox as an extension of my pC/ windows account.

Yea. I don’t have a back log on Xbox. I haven’t turned on my Xbox since getting my gaming pc. I’ve actually been playing most xbox stuff on Steam Deck, natively and GP streaming. Fable 2 is the only game on my Xbox that isn’t also on my pc so far.

The series consoles have an identity crisis. First party is not there, what's left is 3rd party. But you can get third party on a Sony Console and have Sony exclusives. Why go Xbox? Plus a decent Windows machine is an Xbox for all intents and purposes.
The Xbox cannot find any ground to stand on. Its smack in the middle of Playstation and Nintendo, and is an unattractive purchase. Get Sony exclusives and first party. Go with Nintendo for first strong party, and basically and indie machine if you are inclined to like that sort of thing. Now Xbox is even giving their games to Sony and Nintendo. It just is a mess that Microsoft will never recover from, at least in the hardware arena. A third wheel who has nothing exclusive to boast about and has to give its games away has no purpose. 2 consoles that wildly differ in their approach and pc covers everything.

You can do it with multiple games and I might be wrong on this since I haven't utilized the feature that much; with an update that they released later, you can even resume a game after a full shutdown. On the PS5, you are putting the system to sleep and going back to that last game you had running while with Xbox, you can return to any of the games that have been put in "quick resume" mode. It's like having multiple windows open on your computer and if you don't close it out you can return to them, or sort of like how it is on our phones. I am not sure if you can do it with more than 5 games now but that's what I remember from launch and as I shared earlier, it's not I feature I use that often. I barely use the resume feature on PS5 so lol.

It's worked on all the games I've tried it on, as best I can remember. I believe it's a system-wide thing, not something implemented per-game.
