I have way too many hobbies

Why don't you just do it? It's never too late to pick one up (it took me till my late 20's to do it). You just need time and patience.

And Money. Which I don't have.

I would really like to learn how to play the piano or guitar. I love those instruments.

When you get older, married, and have kids, you will have none of these hobbies. Maybe 1 or 2 if you're lucky.

Enjoy them while you can.

Hmm, point. In the meantime, if you haven't already, why don't you learn about reading music and ear training? There should be free resources on the internet. It's a crucial skill that will really pay off once you do get to pick up an instrument.

In my experience meditation makes you gradually lose interest in a lot of things that could be considered somewhat extraneous or something of a distraction. I don't really mean that in the "type-A personality" or workaholic way, it just subtly and kind of passively/organically reorganizes your priorities in a rather genuine way. Obviously it's not perfectly effective or I wouldn't still be posting here, but in general it leads a person more in that direction, you just gradually become more focused in a way where you let go of things and find that you don't really miss them.

i feel like i need another one

- i game
- i make music
- i watch experimental tv and films and stuff
- i am a political junkie
- part-time brony

i feel a bit empty sometimes

Holy crap I never knew gaf could be so elitist. None of those are hobbies? Really? Working out and reading aren't hobbies now? "NO NOW GO LEARN AN INSTRUMENT OR DO SOMETHING WE CONSIDER PRODUCTIVE"

Sounds like you could do something more productive

Right now I'm trying to balance grad school, an internship, a part-time job, my music playing, and trying to write some short stories. I also go to the gym four days a week. There's never enough time. I remember reading a sci-fi story about people who were engineered not to need sleep. I wish I were one of those people.

Complaining about people's opinions on message boards, another hobby

Drowning in hobbies here

I enjoy bird watching. I'm thinking about taking up feeding pigeons at the local park as a new hobby too!

Sharpening knives is actually pretty cathartic. Get that blade nice n' sharp until you cut your skin just by lightly pressing down on your flesh. Wait until the neighbor is coming home tired and groggy before you spring out of the bushes knife in hand and lunge like a wild savage wolf towards their jugular, all in the name if testing how sharp your combat knife is........ Or you could just watch t.v.

I will say that smoking weed, playing videogames, masturbating, and working out are all excellent hobbies. I usually just stick with combining the first with the latter ones, though.

I read, watch Netflix , play video games, smoke weed, work out, watch movies, watch football, and i also follow the video games film tv and wrestling industries by checking up on new news all days. I also NeoGAF. A lot. Don't even post that much, just read a lot of threads.

And I do all this while having a girlfriend, going to school (just went back this semester after taking a year off), and having a part time job.

I feel like I need to let go of some of theses things so I can focus better and experience these things better.
Help me lose a hobbie!

I work 3 am to 12 noon, 40 hours a week. I work 10 hours at an internship, and take 11 hours credits of classes. I have a wife and a 18 month old son. And you have too many fucking hobbies. Boo Freakin' Hoo.

NEXT!!!!

The responses in this thread are killing me.

Does laughing count as a hobby?

My absolute FAVORITE hobby in the world is paying homeless people to touch me.

I'm not sure what you call that.

I have this problem. Unfortunately my hobbies can also be pretty damn expensive, so they're a strain on my wallet as well as my schedule.

Telling people to do something more productive? We should be burned at the stake.

Anyone here read 11/22/63 ?

Currently about 20% through it, and I feel like I'm never gonna finish. But I really want to, because so for the books amazing. But I keep finding that I have to many other things to do so I just don't know when to read and when to do other things.

Smoking weed and consuming internet culture aren't hobbies.

Recently I figured that I needed a hobby that isn't depressingly geeky like fixing computers, playing mmos, watching anime and spending too much time lurking on message boards. So I picked up cooking, grilling and am about to try my hand at home brewing, go me~

Yea I need to learn how to cook.
Was it hard?
Na, I was surprised how easy, cheap compared to eating out and non time consuming cooking actually is. I learned from downloading a few video cooking podcasts from itunes. I'm still learning and wouldn't serve the results to friends and family yet. But it is a very satisfying hobby. And the fact that some women find it sexy is a nice bonus, someday.. :3

Read at work.

If you cut out smoking weed and watching crap on netflix you'd probably finish it pretty fast.

Reading is probably a better use of your time then those other two anyway.

I get the impression what you really want to do is get off the couch and do something that isn't routine for most people. You can always join a club. I'm part of Toastmaster's and help out a friend's engineering design team from time to time. If you want to meet people and end up with interesting stories, an outdoors club is a safe bet. You get exercise while also being social and taking you new places.
