I had this same problem. I figured out the solution, try and date other people. Attempting to date a best friend risks losing the friendship entirely, its not worth it.
 
I learned this from a game once:
What you gotta do is impress her with a bunch of tricks and acts of bravery. Start by getting the fish out of the guy's stomach and subdue a bunch of running bulls. Don't forget to rub all the dirt off her.

I've been with the same person for God knows how many years, so the love bug only occurs when we're horny or in special occasions, like in the next few days.

I say let her know how you feel, cause keeping feelings like those buried inside you can be unhealthy. Also do it fast, cause there's nothing worst than falling hard for a girl and then losing the chance because you took too long to make your move.

Well, not "best" friend. We've only really gotten close recently. I've always been able to deal with the fact that she isn't single and would just enjoy her alluring presence, but lately, since I've gotten to know her better and better, I'm hurting here. Now, I could just push it out of my mind and get over it, but my friend INSISTS that she likes me (just in how she acts). I don't think so, but I'm willing to keep up the dream!

Socreges, that situation sucks and I know it all too well. I opted for pushing her out of my mind to the point where the possibility was still there (ie, oh shit they broke up! *swoop*) but it wasn't on the forefront of my mind often. Just moved on to other girls and scenarios knowing that there is very little I can do to change the shit-value of the situation. Then again I'm strictly opposed to actively interfering with another relationship, and your stance on that may vary....

I'm dealing with a bit of an inner struggle, actually. I like the girl-dash-friend and I know she likes me back. But she isn't exactly right for me. Personality wise, the chemistry is insane. Physically too. But if she isn't getting *it* when she craves it, she'll run to an ex-bf of hers, or some booty call and do the deed. She just can't control herself. Similar to the way guys can't refrain from rubbing one out when they're alone at home, but I digress. I don't have half as much fun with anyone else; but with her, it's just awesome. My friends tell me I could probably change her a bit, but that's bullshit. Their reasoning is that she respects me a lot...she has tons and tons of respect for me; and she has never lied to me once. She pays for me often, movies, food, pool games, whatever...but going out with her would guarantee me heart break.

And so here is this other girl, someone I know nothing about. The chance to start clean slate...and I pray to God it works out, because God knows I need a long term girlfriend again. Hook ups are the dumbest shit ever, and so depressing. This girl, she just seems right. I could see myself with her, man am I weaksauce at this point.

I do, I met a girl I don't want to fuck. Just dance with her, hold her, and make sweet sweet lovin to. And I was moving in real cozy until I stopped seeing her in the class I did. Sucks, cause we would talk everyday. Supposedly she got banned from this gap study hall because she went to much. Then she even dissappeared from the lunch room. I see her in the hall every once in a while and everytime we catch glances and smile. She's incredibly beautiful but just as much shy. Oddly enough, she was in a school play. That's the last I seen her outside of halls. Problem was last time she was laughing with some guy, but as shy as she is, she wouldn't walk the hall with someone unless she knew em well. The bastard, stealing my fair lady. I ought to kick him square in the shin! >:( So yeha, I'm left to make a bold move, and that's the boldest I got for now :-/
