I want to play the ipod in my car. My sister and friend have a FM transmitter, but sometimes it can get a lot of static. Does anybody have a good one or know of a good one?

sometimes where the ipod is positioned in the car will make it sound better
anyways i found the iTrip to be pretty crappy, the one my friend has works really well
its made by Monster, and its pretty pricey, but it also charges the ipod too
anyways good luck

I use the Griffin iTrip (the newer model). It's been pretty reliable just on the default FM setting. I've noticed some static on rare occasions but nothing that was terribly distracting. I probably just need to change the frequency it operates on. It doesn't require a separate set of batteries to operate but you might want to pick up a car charger if you are planning on using it on a long trip as it relies on the iPod's battery. All in all I'm happy with my purchase. The one thing I don't like about it is that you can only change the frequency it operates on through a computer (I haven't figured out a way to do it manually; I don't think it's possible).

Should have bought an iRiver

Whoa, long time no see.

Edit - No wait, I don't think it's here I know you. :lol

On topic: Considered a Belkin tape adapter? I use one on my *cough* iRiver and it works pretty well.

Listen to Pochacco, the iTrip really sucks ass, it's the absolute worse signal possible of all the scenarios.

The Tape adapter works best probably, but it looks so ghetto with the wirw hanging out the front of the tapedeck, besides who has a tapedeck installed anymore.

The wireless dock type that charges while it plays works really well also, but it's a houndred bucks.

BTW, if for any reason your battery ever dies hit me up, I changed mine out 2 days ago and it was cheaper than getting a free replacement with Apple and easy as pie to swap out and I didn't have to worry with going without it for a month till I got my replacement.

I have an old tape adapter that came with a sony discman that i use in one car

The other car has a tape deck that doesn't like the tape adapter so I use the iTrip

But I also use the iTrip at home and work

Griffin have a free utility on their website that'll help if you're in the US -- it's a list of all clear (and iTrip-friendly) frequencies to use for most US cities. Check it out.

Your mileage will vary with the iTrip. With one car I have it's pretty much all static, but with another car it's as close to crystal clear as the radio will get. Bottom line is it's still FM radio and won't ever be as clear as a line-in or tape adapter, but when it works properly I've found it works well, and it's more versatile than either a cable or cassette (since some cars don't have those, but they all have radios).

I have an Itrip. 90% of the time it sucks. Lots of static. And it cost $40. I do love listening to my Ipod in the car though, and there is no better alternative.
