i just cant play games anymore...

I'd say, sell back the games but make sure not to get store credit =P Then, go out, enjoy yourself - unless you're in the southern hemisphere, it's probably really nice, so go out for a walk, go swimming, etc. I'm ignoring my backlog for a while, since it's been gorgeous here after a kinda shitty winter - been slowly but surely getting into shape after a 1 and a half year long relationship where I kinda got lazy =P So now that I'm playing the field again, you have to look good, you know? :P

You can also try treating games as a social thing - if you have a few friends who like games, you can always play multiplayer games. Or take turns playing single player titles.

Oh yeah, one really important thing - don't feel you need to rush to buy everything people on here say is good. Find what genres you enjoy the most (I'm sure you've narrowed down your tastes this much ) and read up about the best games from them. I'm a lot happer now that I've narrowed myself down to playing games from 3 or 4 genres, instead of buying everything that gets an inordinate amount of hype on these forums.

Also, a lot of modern games require commitment, like 10 hours plus to make it through, so go back to the oldskool - 8/16 bit - the games are much shorter but offer even more fun than most modern games, where you're sitting through 1 hour tutorial levels or overwrought cinematics before you even start playing :P

Nintendo has killed gaming for you. By pledging consumer loyalty to a brand name and your sense of nostalgia, you've completely lost the ability to enjoy gaming. Congratulations! Next you'll be making excuses for PSOne-caliber visuals and stylus-enabled mini-games, hoping against hope that third-rate visuals and "simpler" play experiences are the answer to your ennui, but in the end, the inevitable truth is that you never really liked gaming enough to give up Nintendo and move on.

BUY A PS2.

The interweb ruins games for me. The less I read on people whining about games they don't understand or (supposedly) don't care for, the better my mood for some game playin'. I'll check out any game that anyone finds merit in, but I have to completely shut them out in regards to what they dislike.

The problem is that you need to have more in your life. Gaming is a hobby. Its all too easy to be suckered in to buying games constantly, especially on a forum like this. I got bored of games a little while ago and other than playing a challenge or two of Ridge Racer PSP, I don't play games. I'll just sit on the collection until I feel like gaming again.

You probably bought way too many games for the time you can give to videogames.
You just try too much. Take a break, sell each and every game that isn't freakin AAA to you. When you have too much games like this, it becomes consciously or unconciously a chore and that's why you're bored.

The answer to your crisis is not to take a break or abandon gaming for a period of time.

The answer is to buy a PS2 and/or Xbox. Each console has an excellent library of games that will fulfill your gaming needs.

That's pretty profound when you take time to consider it. Tell me, were you one of these at one point?

I went through this phase (and am still going through it to some extent), but I fixed it with Classic arcade games. These are games in their purest form and can be played in short amounts of time. Break out Robotron or Joust or Donkey Kong or someshit and forget about your consoles for a while. The desire to play them will return.

It seriously might be Nintendo. I was getting pretty jaded this generation with just a GC (and a GBA, but I'm talking about consoles) until I bought a PS2, and suddenly I felt like I did almost two decades ago when I first got an NES. It just offers different experiences than you're used to on the GC, and it also has so many games that you can find something you know absolutely nothing about, and just enjoy it for what it is. On the GC, where the library is sparse enough that you pretty much know all the games that are available, past present and future, this is not possible.

I'm not putting down the GC, as it does have worthwhile games (although I don't know about 100...), but get a new console and try a different experience. You might be surprised.

It's going to get worse for me again in August when 7 relatively must-have games come out almost in the same week. :( Some of them are pick-em-up, put-em-down games (ala Mario Kart DS, Advance Wars DS, etc), but some are long ones like GTA PSP, Metroid or Death Jr. What is one to do? To not get these would be to betray one's self as a gamer. To get them would be to perpetuate the problem. I will obviously go with the latter, albeit begrudgingly.

I'll have to finish all 7 in a month and a half so I can enjoy Zelda when it hits. Rigorous planning, budgeting and scheduling will have to happen for this to work. Gaming is a tough job. :D

BTW, does anyone have a good link for game release dates (US & Japan would be awesome, but US is more crucial)? I just want a text page, without having to poke around a store's incomplete coming soon section.

After playing Star Fox Adventures, i was convinced i no longer liked games, but then i played something good (forget what) and realized that SFA is evil dressed in pretty.

The only console I own is a GC and even some of the "OMG MUSTHAVES" aren't cutting it:

I'm playing Mario Sunshine right now and am bored silly with it. I'm not going for the 120 Shines, just beat the game with the least amount of Shines and then move onto something else. It just doesn't do it for me.

Eternal Darkness pisses me off with its utter lack of hints on what to do. There's challenge and then stupidity. ED is the latter.

Mario Golf GC is damn near unplayable and I enjoyed the N64 version. Some of the dumbest ways to make a decent shot possible. I'll give it another shot or two before I'm going to trade it in for the GBA version (which I hear kicks ass).

I doubt its just Nintendo but too much of anything is a bad thing, even Nintendo games.

I've found that as I've gotten older, it's gotten harder and harder to dedicate huge blocks of time to gaming. Instead, I've found myself playing more "pick up and play" games like shmups, pinball games, KD, and fighters. I've got a huge RPG backlog that I only ever get to play if I'm home sick from work.

I think most people are like that as they get older - the obligations of family, 401k, kids, etc., take over and "thinking" gaming takes a back seat.

For me, it's been the opposite - if something doesn't have at least a pretense of a plot I just sort of black out, feel kind of saddened and embarassed, and tend to try and do something more productive - but if it has a complex, confusing, multi-faceted (or nonsensical, take your pick) plot like Shin Megami: Nocturne or Xenosaga or Xenogears or Suikoden II, I find myself "justified" and play it all the more.
