I just got this http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/asp/...book_6735s_KU221ET-ABU&pagetype=version&page=

Specs

* Processor - AMD Turion X2 mobile processor RM-70 / 2 GHz ( Dual-Core )
* RAM - 2 GB (installed) / 8 GB (max) - DDR2 SDRAM ( 1 x 2 GB )
* Hard Drive - 160 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm
* Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Business
* Screen - 15.4' TFT 1280 x 800 ( WXGA )
* Optical Drive - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM - integrated with LightScribe Technology
* Graphics - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200
* Bluetooth - Yes

It's mainly for work and the Internet but there may well be an occasion where I will want some gaming goodness. I am into most genres to some degree. Forgive me but I know very little about PC gaming. I realise this Laptop won't be playing anything too decent but some suggestions would be great

Oh and I got 4Gb of ram not 2Gb

Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks GAF

No you didn't.

I have an inspiron 13 that is similar specced to yours.
I have been playing:

Counterstrike 1.6
Half life 1
Peggle
Starcraft
Warcraft 3
Fallout 1/2
Game emulators
Quake 3

Check out all of the "top games" from before 2005.

Just make sure you buy a bluetooth mouse instead of using the shitty touchpad for a better gaming experience.

Ah ok, I thought that was an integrated chipset. The GPU wasn't a major concern when buying the laptop as it's not really meant for gaming. Thanks for the recomendations. I will definitely get a BT mouse.

Grab any of the Blizzard battle chests. Starcraft, Diablo II, Warcraft 3. World of Warcraft is an MMO, so steer clear unless you plan to invest a lot of time.

Yes he did.
Integrated graphics: Radeon HD 3200 (780G) [17], Radeon 3100 (780V) [20]
205 million transistors [21]
ATI Hybrid Graphics and PowerXpress (780G only, PowerXpress for M780G only)
Side-port memory as local frame buffer [18], supporting DDR2 and GDDR3 modules [19] (780G only)
ATI PowerPlay technology
UVD (780G only)
...
Source

Anyways, I recommend Sam & Max: Season 1.

Thats not exactly integrated, and actually a pretty decent card for a laptop. (im talking along the lines of like a GMA950 or something like that)

You may even get away with Half life 2, CS:S at lower resolutions, definitely doom 3.

The HD 3200 is a pretty solid chip for being integrated. You should be able to handle Source engine games pretty well on that.

I've had my laptop for a while and am currently playing Mass Effect and love it. Is there anything else on PC thats similar to it ? and I also loved Starcraft and Dioblo II, are there anything like them on PC that can satisfy me till SC2 and Diablo 3 drops ?

Loads of great suggestions in this thread thanks guys. I am especially interested in playing Baldurs Gate 2 (I played Dark Alliance and loved it) and Thief 2 as I enjoyed the one on the Xbox.

Sweet. You think Portal might run on it?

Red Alert 3: it runs on my intel integrated graphics.
WoW: if you like diablo2, you'll like World of Warcraft.

Warcraft3: Lots of people still play it and you can play 'dota', a great mod.
World of Goo for puzzles.

It's been said before, but you should be fine with Source engine games. WoW will also run reasonably.

As far as people talking about it being integrated or not -- it is, but most people take "integrated" to mean "Intel or other on-board video that sucks badly for gaming." With the exception of the past few years, that's been what it meant as there were very few integrated gaming video chipsets. Can't blame them for making that assumption! :)

Hearts of Iron II Complete, get it off of steam.
On that screenshot you see WW3. With the US invading the Soviet Union from the North, and Great Britain invading the Soviet Union from the South (and actually, both from the East as well, but you can't see it on that map :p). I'm playing the Netherlands in that game (orange). Conquered Greece, Albania, Yugoslavia, Italy, Austria, Denmark and am in the process of conquering Germany :p.

I have a laptop similar to yours and I even managed to play TF2 and Company of Heroes in windowed mode with little lag problems. Sure it was running minimum spec and I couldn't get any large maps to run in company of heroes, but it was good for 2v2. I tried running left 4 dead on that and it was a joke though.

Don't support PopCap. Instead, give money to those who truly deserve it and buy World of Goo!

Edit: Oh, and that open source Star Control 2 game... Ur-Quan Masters.

Is the 3200 that bad? I've seen TF2 and L4D running on a mobility HD2400 fine. Low settings and 800x600, of course, but solid fps (30+).

Get steam and try the portal demo.
And if that works (pretty sure it will) then you can get Team Fortress 2 and L4D. I have a similar computer and it runs both perfectly even on mid settings. :D just make sure with the Portal demo first.

Edit: Also Trackmania, it will pretty much run on any computer. My brother's computer's got a GMA integrated card and it works fine. You should also check out Audiosurf, I believe there's a demo.

Sorry to thread hijack but I just bought the HP Pavillion HDX 18t, it comes with a 512MB 9600M GT, how does this compare to last gen's 8800M GTS?

Good/Free Games:
Spelunky, Cave Story and probably Sauerbraten(Cube 2).
:D

Within a Deep Forest, Knytt, Knytt Stories, Meritous, rRootage, Tumiki Fighters, Warning Forever, Dyson, Garden Gnome Carnage, Super Fleafall Championship, Iji, Karoshi, Blocksum, Clean Asia, 5 Days a Stranger, An Untitled Story, A Game with a Kitty, Guardian of Paradise....

these are some other indie freeware games. I've written up a couple for http://todaysfreegame.com/ already. But since they represent the best of the best, I'm saving most of them (since I have to do one a day, after all), and will be doling them out little by little on the site.

If you don't want to wait, feel free to google them and enjoy now.

Ur-Quan Masters. AKA Star Control 2. Fully voiced over, awesome music, 100% free, and 100% win. The game is like nothing else, funny, and strangely addicting. Works great with a gamepad or keyboard, so no mouse needed (in fact it doesn't support them).

Holy shit I didn't think I'd have any chance at all of running Left 4 Dead, awesome news. I haven't had a chance to play this as I no longer have a 360. Keep the suggestions coming though guys this thread will be a great resource to come back to
