Therefore I can come into any psp thread and bash the hell out of it. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

But seriously, could they have made the d pad any more ass? I mean it is even worse than the peice of crap that was on the GC. I am not seeing why you would need a brighter screen with the DS Lite, and the music is crystal clear on it. I got tales of Eternia with it. I almost got maveric hunter X with it until Ifound out that it was just a remake of the megaman X game on the SNES.

Where can i get those d-pad covers for cheap?

I dunno, but I hear capcom sends 'em out when you order SFA 3

Maverick Hunter's a remake, but it feels surprisingly fresh. The D-Pad I actually quite like for everything other than fighting games.

You can get it by buying Street Fighter Alpha 3 directly from Capcom.

It's nice, but even without it PSP has a pretty good d-pad for everything besides 2d fighters.

As for games. Go to Play-Asia and import:

DJMAX Portable

And then go to your local store and pick up:

Irregular Hunter X
Exit
Lumines
Metal Gear Acid
Gripshift
GTA: LCS

And then wait for the US release of:

Megaman Powered Up
My My Katamari Damacy
Metal Gear Acid 2
Monster Kingdom: Jewel Hunter

If you do that you will have a library of only B+ ~ A+ level games and you will feel like the PSP is sex in your hands.

Ridge Racers and, if you don't already have it, Tales of Eternia should probably make that list as well.

You made a big mistake.

You just made the worst mistake of your life. You should have bought a DS because you will be hard pressed to find a single decent title on FONY's abomination of a "gaming" "system."

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

EXIT ftw mingebags!

I am pretty much only interested in rpg's, sometimes i play somethimg different but never sports or racing. For now ToE is good enough. BTW is key of heaven any good?

See I wasn't a big fan of the PSP either. I got my system last may and it pretty much collected dust until early this year. I was so against upgrading my firmware because I didn't want to lose the ability to play NesterJ on it but then something magical happened. The GTA exploit was discovered and homebrew is now possible on 2.0+ firmwares. I updated to 2.6, got myself Exit, Megaman Maverick Hunter X, GTA, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, and very soon Capcom Classics Collection Remix/Megaman Powered Up/Katamari will be added to that list. I take my PSP everywhere I go now and actually enjoy it! To all the PSP haters, blechwoo!

NO it is NOT!

atleast try out MGA1/2 and see if you're interested.

If you are talking about Tenchi no mon/Kingdoms of paradise(I think they changed the name again for Eu) then no it is absolute crap. It is probably my 2nd biggest regret as far as the PSP games I bought. One of my friends hyped it up for me, but I realized soon after buying it that his taste in games is absolute crap.

Horrible story, with bland environments, bland characters, and a decent combat system with several flaws. Avoid it at all costs, wait for the remake of Valkyrie Profile or Suikoden.

Damn I just realized tenchi no mon got a 7.8 with IGN. Did they ever have credibility? I sure as hell don't remember a time when they did.

You appear to have bought the wrong handheld, then - current crop of PSP RPGs is pretty shoddy, and very port-heavy. Not that I'll be complaining about that if the Suikoden port makes it to the West, of course...

Seriously though, very disappointed with the PSP as an RPG machine so far - vast potential there but nobody seems to be making good on it yet. We need more original PSP RPG titles.

I wouldn't go that far - it's absolute mediocrity rather than absolute crap. You'll buy it, because it's one of the few RPGs available for the system. But you won't feel good about it.

There aren't many rpg's for either handheld at the moment.

get a gba (if you don't already have one) if you want portable rpg's.

Hmm yeah I guess it did entertain me for a bit, before I realized that there wasn't the huge world that I thought there was. Instead it is pretty much one big circular path leading through boring and absolutely nonspectacular scenery.

The combat system was fun and had some promise but it was broken. The guard fuction was silly and didn't work. And Chi arts were way too overpowered.

I'd still go with DS (or wait for DS lite) - plays all the GBA titles plus the occasional DS gem and hopefully more as time goes on. Then again, you've probably already got one (or at least an SP), right?

PSP is the system to get for future RPG prospects. Looking at the current-gen handhelds' RPG prospects, you made the best choice.

Care to share that list of good-looking non-port RPGs coming up for PSP?

Yes please share some of these prospects.

I think he is pointing to that crisis core game where they plan to bastardize FFVII even more!

I hear the main villain in this one is going to be SMAP!

OH SNAP!

Someone mentioned Key of Heaven/Kingdom of Paradise somewhere. I don't know the exact details of what was said, but I just had to say ...

DO NOT BUY IT.

Until it's $10.

You won't be disappointed. I have it since the launch in Japan and there was only a short period it collected some dust (after minna no golf, ridge racers and lumines), but at this moment it's my #1 gaming system.

If this is the losing team, then losing is fun. I'm a loser baby...

Gaming outdoors with sunlight.
Probably wouldn't make a huge difference.

The PSP screen is incredibly bright. It is difficult to view outside as a result of its shiny face design. It's very reflective material and basically turns the entire unit into a giant mirror. My laptop with the shiny screen has the same issue (not that I would really need to use it outside).

The worst part is any kind of imperfections on the screen (be it dust, streaks, or scratches) are VERY pronounced when playing outside. :(

Upcoming (soon) US RPGs (all handhelds)...

Nintendo DS
-Tao's Adventure: Curse of thje Demon Seal (Konami) March 2006
-Lost Magic (Ubisoft) April 2006
-Harvest Moon DS (Natsume) June 2006
-Contact (Atlus) Summer 2006
-Dragon Quest: Slime Knights (Nintendo) Summer 2006

-Astonishia Story (Ubisoft) March 2006
-Bounty Hounds (Namco) April 2006
-Monster Hunter Freedom (Capcom) May 2006

Congrats!

I like it, too, but I agree on the d-pad. Diagonals are sometimes a little tough to register... I wish Sony would just give us a more traditional d-pad already instead of the X-through-the-middle one. It works quite well for most games, though.

The "speakers" on the PSP are terrible. The system only sounds good when you're listening to it through a decent set of headphones. The DS speakers have a much better sonic range, where you can enjoy it both with and without headphones.

I've been playing Wipeout Pure nonstop lately, though. I didn't like it at first (seemed really slow), but at some point, it really "clicked" with me (using the Icaras ships), and now it's one of my favorite games on the system.

Looks like DS is where it's at for upcoming RPGs for now. ToP, SRT, Contact, and DQ are all nice RPGs. The rest are selective, only some will like HM, LM, UL2, and MHF.

Is it possible to have a worse d-pad then the Gamecube? >.<

I disagree. I do think PSP is the best choice for portable 3D action games though.

The PSP will definitely end up with the greatest rpg lineup on a handheld by the end of its lifetime IMO. But most likely 99% of them won't be released in English, so yeah...if you don't read Japanese the DS will be the place for rpgs.

Too bad since the PSP is the first system to really be able to do modern rpgs and the ones that are A quality on the PSP completely demolish every portable rpg to date.

Importing from Europe is a must for all PSP RPG enthusiasts, if you have not learned by now. The US PSPers missing out on Breath of Fire 3, and getting a delayed Monster Hunter Portable and Tales of Eternia should have told you that by now

I got a PSP last week although it still feels like I just got one. I still clean it and wipe it every night with a cleaning cloth ffs! :lol

Amazing machine so far, IMO. Great selection of games that I've played, still got lots of games to try as well, and I'm so impressed with the machine. The screen and speakers both absolutely wipe the floor with any handheld I've ever used

Yeah I have a DS (I've actually had two). The PSP speakers are much better, IMO. The sound quality via headphones is much better as well. Although, to be fair, a DS with headphones does sound pretty good.

Bluh, you speak in tongue I do not comprehend.

Okay, we get the point. Let's not drag this into a 6 page bitchfest please.

However, Harvest Moon's not much of an RPG.

Monk: Buy Maverick Hunter X. It's twelve kinds of awesome.

Jarrod, I noticed you posted something about Dragon Warrior Monsters DS in another thread. Do you have any more information about that? I spent way to much time with the original DWM on GBC. :|
