I just got a psp!

Legend of Heroes isn't the greatest game but it's a fairly enjoyable romp if you're RPG starved. There have been numerous comments on it, most feel its fairly mediocre (and nowhere near as good as TOE), but I like it certainly more than every other PSP game (except for of course Lumines). Stay far away from Ys VI though, get the PS2 version.

I really wanted to like Exit but I tried for like 10 minutes to do a running jump and I'm like, screw this... :P

Virtua Tennis is $10 at Sears

Lumines universal price drop to $19.99 everywhere, starting today

I don't have it myself but Kingdom of Paradise sounds interesting:

Also, WipEout Pure is a must.

Oh yeah, how could me of all people forget about Wipeout Pure :P Well, there is quite a bit of loading (there are a ton of menus to wade through before you start a race) and it can be REALLY hard if you're not into racers (I'm not but the Wipeout series is obviously really appealing to me).

:lol I had the same problem, but I persevered and now I'm having fun. Oddly enough, a couple of my friends played the opening stages, and they got the running jump just fine the first time. Weird. We all agreed that he takes way too damn long to climb a ladder, though. :)

My very first thought when I saw the thread title was "OH MY GOD did you keep your receipt?! You can still return it!"

:lol

I have yet to buy one but I"m sure I will if/when Suikoden 1+2 gets released here, so it won't be all bad, all the time forever..right? right?!

There are plenty of good games getting released on the PSP. They would be better if Sony was a little smarter when they designed the hardware. The load times shouldn't be such an issue for devs to tackle, and the Dpad and buttons suck. I can't help but look at my PSP as a failure because it's unable to live to its potential and that pisses me off everytime I look at it. It's just hard for me to get around the fact that I can't use this thing for everything I want to use it for.

I don't just want to play emulation or anything but the fact that you can launch apps off of the memory stick could lead to some awesome downloadable content and smaller games but Sony won't acknowledge that. Sony has just done nothing to make this thing more appealing.

Yea, my main problem with the PSP is that it seems like the game development side and the hardware side seem totally divorced from one another. It's as if they were simply given this platform to develop on, but there was no integration with that vision. Frustrating.

Is there any word of a PSP redesign in the future? I am not a fan of the aesthetics of the system. The screen is nice, but everything else is meh.

That feature is actually probably coming soon. Everything except for downloadable games you can already download with the built in browser, so I don't know what more exactly could they do.

I just want to say that, on the record, I think Rockman Rockman (Megaman Powered Up in the US) is the best handheld game that's ever been made. I gave it ~9.8/10 with .1 off for balance issues when playing as bosses and .1 off for occasional slowdown, but otherwise its more fun, looks better, and has more replay value than any other handheld game I've played in my life.

It's worth buying a PSP for assuming you aren't afraid of HARD games.

Damn, that's a boooold statement, man! :D Looking forward to giving it a spin after the five-hundred or so games that are in my queue... sigh.

even though I already ordered a DSLite, I definitely.....and I mean DEFINITELY will be aquiring a PSP once Tekken and Super Puzzle II come out.

The reflective screen thing is kinda a bummer though. :(

I figured powered up would be that damn good, based on all the information I've seen.

I continue to be baffled by the constant trolling it gets. I've only had the thing a few weeks and I already have like 7 games for the thing (latest pickup being Gripshift), and I haven't even picked up Lumines, Ys and Burnout yet. Plus Samurai Warriors tommorrow, Powered up on the 14th, MGA2 and Capcom Classics Collection towards the end of the month. Jesus.

First word that came to mind was... Why???
Mine too.
Is that a bad thing?
No, but I'm not sure why you're bothering to ask, quite honestly.

(Nor am I sure you're actually interested in any replies to the question.)

Same here. I was kinda anti-PSP for a while, just because I thought the cost of entry was high and (initially) there was very little worth owning for it. 8 games later in the span of about a little over a month, those feelings have gone out the window.

I think the PSP could use a refresh, though. Better d-pad, replace the analog nub, put in some speakers that don't sound like you're listening to headphones off your head, maybe make it a little lighter, better QC on dead/stuck pixel screens. Very nice design otherwise.

BTW, how much dialog is in the game? If there is a lot of voice and such, I may throw the Asian version onto my FFXII order or something. I've heard the IHX English dub and, between the cutscenes, constant yelling of power-up names, and the anime included in the game doubt I could deal with it had I played that version instead. How is this one?

Of course, on the otherhand, the US version is only $30. :\

There's like 1-2 bubbles of dialogue before every boss, the bosses talk when you pick their stages, and professer Light and Rol talk to you at the level select screen.

Here's the differences:

JPN version = $52 = Awesome voices for all the characters. Really adds to their personalities.

Asia version = $40 = Awesome voices but WTF GAME IS IN CHINESE. All menus are in chinese (but the description text is in Japanese) Cool instruction booklet with little comics is all in Chinese :(

US version = $30 = Maybe not so awesome voices but cheap.

Me and duckroll went with Asia but luckily duckroll reads Chinese and told me what all the menus and score tallies were saying. Otherwise I'm a little pissed I got the Asia version since I can't read Chinese.

And wait until you see the graphics. The demo on IHX doesn't do the game justice at all. The animations on the enemies and bosses, the colors of everything, the stages...I've honestly never seen a better looking game on handheld before. It looks like an end of life DC title.

...I am VERY uninclined to buy games I have played before, updated or whatnot. Please tell me the improvements made to the game so i can decide for myself. Same goes for Irregular Hunter X.

Irregular Hunter X:

-Completely new character with his own storyline, cutscenes, tons of new weapons that make his adventure completely different than X.
-Hard difficulty mode making the game even more challenging than before
-30 minute anime movie made exclusively for the game that tells the story leading up to the start.

Megaman Powered Up:

-All new levels for the six original bosses in the generel theme of the original
-Two completely new stages with new bosses and new powers for Megaman
-Ability to play as Roll, Protoman, and all 8 bosses who play completely different than Megaman
-100 stage challenge mode featuring 100 all new stages created especially for each boss character (10 per boss, 10 for megaman, and 10 special Wily stages)
-A level editor that lets you make anything you want
-Internet mode that lets you download thousands of user-made levels

IHX is a lot more than an "update", because the new gameplay changes. But Powered up is basically a new game. It has more new stages than any Megaman you will ever play and the level creator is the hottest thing ever. Calling Powered up a remake or update is not an option.

So far I've been disappointed with the PSP. Welcome to the losing team.
I was gonna say that.

Just gimmie my Katamari and Loco Roco. I haven't bought a PSP game since Namco Museum. :( PSP = teh disappoint. I was promised good huge library of games. Forgot that it'd be a Sony library and therefore full of games I have absolutely no interest in. I blame Lumines.

Eh? The Asian version is in Chinese?! Damn, that sucks. :\

I'll have to think about this one, then. Thanks for the warning. I would have been pretty upset if the game showed up in Chinese. I certainly hope that never occurs with an RPG or something...

Has that happened to you before? An Asian version showing up in Chinese, I mean.

You just sold me on Megaman powered up. But i am still iffy about IHX. For me the asthetics and bonus stuff don't matter, but if the gameplay has changed a lot then i will get it. :)

Never. This is actually the first game I've ever bought that had anything on the disc in Chinese. Tekken 5 had a Chinese Manual and Popolocrois 3 LE had the title in Chinese on the LE box (Japanese on the PS2 case box), but those are pretty much my only experiences with getting non-Japanese in my Asian versions.

This really surprised me with powered up and I'm gonna make sure I get the Japanese version of Ghouls n Ghosts because I don't trust Capcom + PSP + Asian anymore :P

Gameplay is pretty much the same. It's very very different as the other player, Vile. But as X, it plays pretty close to the original just with better graphics and some of the upgrade locations switched around.

I had no idea MegaMan Powered Up featured so many new modes and longevity. Must buy.

Has anyone heard anything about Samurai Warriors?

Mega Man Powered Up is definitely worth the purchases; it really is a brand new game...even the bosses have new tricks to use against you. You can even unlock a version of Mega Man with the slide and charge shot from later games. :)

Geki Sengoku Musou came out a few months back, but no one ever talks about it; guess there's really not much to say. It's just like Dynasty Warriors on PSP in game play style (the same minimaps are back), but now the game is full screen, and the slowdown problems seem to have been fixed. So basically it's more of the same; replace arrows with rolling, etc.

I started to get into the game a bit, but now I have Sengoku Musou 2 on PS2, so I've pretty much lost interest in the PSP version. The second Dynasty Warriors PSP game is coming out at the end of the month, and it looks awesome; you might just want to get Samurai Warriors 2 on PS2 and wait for the new DW PSP game, although it likely will be a while before it gets an English release.
