Especially the peanut ones.

I name my M&Ms before I eat them...

My favorite M&M ever was Pedro the brown M&M...

I ate him last.<3

He's right. :P
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) established standards called the Food Defect Action Levels (FDAL) saying, "Some foods, even when produced under current good manufacturing practice, contain natural or unavoidable defects that at low levels are not hazardous to health." "Defects" in this case deals with how many insects can be in your food before the department will take any legal action.

According to the FDAL, peanut butter cannot contain more than 60 fragments per 100 grams and wheat flour must have less than 75 insects per 50 grams. Tomato paste, pizza, and other sauces are limited at 30 eggs per 100 grams or two whole maggots per 100 grams. Canned mushrooms have a maximum of 20 maggots per 100 grams. And chocolate tops off at 80 microscopic insect fragments per 100 grams.

Mmm, I want a candy bar now...

Why's the brown one gotta be Predro you racist! I'm so sick of this M&M correlation to our hispanic people and you will burn in hell for your remark today... Ok I'm just kidding, I call my brown ones Fernando ;)

I used to drop a few peanut MandMs in my coffee to give it some flavour, but when you get down to the bottom of the cup the sugar coats had all melted off and the chocolate was partially disolved, making it look like shit drops. So I stopped doing that.

I had a friend after high school that would mix Skittles and M&M's into a bowl as one of the snacks at his Halloween parties.

He called them S&M's. He'd go up to people and ask them if they wanted some S&M, extending the bowl. :)

Smarties > M&M's

I agree, but we're clearly discussing candies with a crunchy coating here. Otherwise we'd have to pull Sweettarts (chewy and crunchy) into the mix and things would get ugly.

Thus, Fruitart Chews >>>> *

Smarties DO have a crunchy coating. It also has the best song.

When you eat your Smarties,
Do you eat the red ones last?
Do you suck them very slowly,
Or crunch them very fast?
Eat that candy-coated chocolate,
But tell me when I ask,
When you eat your Smarties,
Do you eat the red ones last?

Ah, THOSE Smarties. I thought you meant these:

Not these:

I'd never heard of the latter until I stopped by Singapore last month and had some.

They sucked. :)

M&M >>>>> Smarties

BANANA RUNTS!!! lol

Seriously I know oatmeal is allowed to have a ton of moth larvae in each bag or barrel or whatever they store it in. There is just no way to avoid it. Fuckin gross.

My question is, why don't we irradiate our food if this is the case? Those allowable numbers sound more like something you'd see around the time The Jungle was written. That's just a lot of larvae and whatnot.

I saw some maggots festering in my trash the other day and about threw up. Now I'm going to have to curb my chocolate addiction or risk becoming bulimic

M&Ms would be 10x better if they came in a dark chocolate version.

I'd rather have bugs in my food than DDT.

Plus most natural food has bits of larvae/bugs/whatever in it, so it's not really something you should worry about, unless you plan on eating Splenda the rest of your life or something

QFT. It's not worth getting upset over, all carbon-based life forms are pretty much made of the same stuff.

Oh, as for the insect eggs thing. Why not try leaving some tomato based product out in a bowl for a few days and see what happens? Those flies had to come from somewhere. :)

Have fun eating!
