The limitations are no different. It's impossible to send a 120Hz signal at 1080p over HDMI.
240Hz is a marketing gimmick.

kittoo said:Guys I have been facing this strange problem with my GTX 470. As soon as I boot up a game (or a HD movie), my computer locks up. I can hear sounds in the background but cant move the mouse or anything, only a reboot is the solution. I cant play any games! Initially I thought that the problem was in my CPU or something. But I stressed my CPU and computer remained stable. In the end it seems that graphic card hangs whenever its under load. Is replacement only solution? I bought it from Amazon and I dont live in US so I would like to try all other solutions before RMAing. Help!

Time for me to go to sleep, goodnight folks

The 768MB GTX 460 is a better card and is available from a few different brands for $115 after rebate.

Should be pretty substantial. 25-35% improvement on the stuff it replaces I think. There are some previews if you search around (check Anandtech).joseph1594 said:How big of a difference is Sandy Bridge and the current processors on the market? I was kind of hoping to be able to build this computer very soon.
The 768MB is a better card in that it's a great value proposition and is not a pointless purchase. You can say that the SE's existence benefits Nvidia more than buyers. If you want additional flexibility for gaming, you buy a 1GB 460, 6850 or higher - not a card that's poorly positioned in the market.darthbob said:In some cases, but not all.
However, I still wouldn't get a GTX460 SE, at all.

Like I said, LED and 120Hz are almost purely marketing gimmicks. This is great for people who are in the know, since the low end TVs are insanely good for the price at the moment.

Also, if I swap my motherboard and processor like that would I have to reformat or will I be ok as long as I keep my hard drives in the same configuration. If I don't have to reformat will I have a problem with Windows 7 activation, considering the system components changed so dramatically?
DDR3 and you should really do a fresh install (mobo change). CPU,RAM, GPU, HDD upgrade you don't need to.Houston3000 said:Newegg has a combo deal with an AMD Phenom II X3 740 BE 3.0GHz processor and Biostar TA890GXB motherboard for $108. The fuck?//B1G said:got a small dilemma i think the pc enthusiasts here may be able to come up with a solution for:
my parents shipped my tower through UPS not too long ago from AZ to SC, and insured it for $1000. i told them 2k just to be safe, but oh well.
anyway, upon receiving it, i noticed the 5 in 1 card reader got pushed into the tower.
i may have exaggerated a bit when telling them the extent of the problems, but i've been going through the claims process for a while now. first had to take pictures, then prove it's value, then get that sheet signed by a ups employee (for whatever reason), and now they want me to take it to a computer shop to tell how cheap it'd be to just fix.
going on the notion of it being completely demolished, i tell them there is no way to repair computer components and they just get replaced when broken, so the price on the paper i sent them previously would be how much it'd cost, which is over $1000. i may or may not have lied on that too, though.
i've called around to a couple computer shops around here just asking if they'll write down on a sheet of company paper that the stuff can't be fixed and just needs to be replaced, but none will do it without seeing the pc. thing is though, it still works and if i bring it in they'll be sure to say i only need a new card reader, which would be like $50. i obviously want the full $1k. idk how to pull it off!

I usually buy parts and build my own, but I saw this and have someone with a credit card willing to get it for me as I pay her back. I'm still playing on a Q6600 w/ GeForce 8800 GTS card...is it a huge upgrade?
Do you already have recent ram modules? The only things you'll need for Sandy Bridge and AM3+ are the corresponding CPU and motherboard. Even Ivy Bridge (and a bit beyond that) will still be DDR3-based.joseph1594 said:Ok. So, what other parts could I get now, or does it depend on what is compatible with the Sandy Bridge?

At $700, you can do far better GPU-wise. Have a look at the last 2-3 pages or so for proof of that.
Your current CPU should be running at 3GHz at least, or north of 3.2 with some work and willing components.
Wait for January for Intel's launch. AMD's chips come later in 2011.

I was going to grab the Intel SSD, but their new SSD's should be out the same time as Sandy Bridge and be much much better value (About double storage for same cost) so I'm waiting.matmanx1 said:Woohoo, got home from my day job to see that the one Black Friday combo deal I wanted from Newegg was still available. I snagged the Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH120G2K5 (120GB SSD) and combo'ed it with a 1TB Seagate. The Intel drive is $40 off with a $30 MIR and the Seagate drive combo saved another $20.
I'm not starting my build until after the new Intel CPU's hit but the drive combo I bought today will work just as well then as it would now. Can't wait!
