None. AMDs 7000 series should be out by the end of this year and Nvidia's Keplar series won't be out until next year. If you can wait then do so.

Hmmmmm. That makes it really tricky. If I was gonna wait, I was figuring around the times of Skyrim. Damnit - tricky stuff.

So it's a change to 28mm - but does the die shrink also mean a big increase in performance?

EVGA makes great cards and offer great warranties but that is a stock cooler which will be much louder then a custom cooling solution. Take a look at MSI's Twin Frozr and ASUS DirectCU II cards.

Theres a reason none of the mobos have PATA anymore. Any particular reason your not getting a SATA drive? The amount you could have saved on getting a cheaper board would have bought you a good sized HDD, which would be much faster and without a fat cable messing up airflow.
This one would be better?

For that price, I wouldn't worry about it. NewEgg is good with returns, and PNY is not the worst manufacturer you could go with. That is an extremely good deal.

Thanks, I guess worst case scenario I have to return it. It's about $80 less than what I was planning on buying, with about equal performance. I can always buy another card in a year or so to.

I the Phenom II X6 a decent processor? I haven't kept up with PC tech for a while, and I'm looking to build a new system. Any opinions?

Decent but at this point in the game I wouldn't go with it. Intels I5/I7 crush it pretty good and I believe amds next gen CPU chips, bulldozer, is supposed to hit this year. Id wait and see what that has to offer if you wanna stay on the amd side. If not, go intel.

What do you guys think of this recertified GTX 460?

Seems like a killer deal. Anyone had bad experiences at all with recertified Newegg items? Also, would that be an easy card to overclock?

Wow. You may have just provided me with my stopgap upgrade from the 260.

I want to wait to upgrade until the next gen but it will suck not being able to play Skyrim to its full potential. The cheap 460 will be a nice bridge.

gooood, how much did it all cost? want this so badly but I don't want to be without my PC for long.
It all depends on how many cables you have done. I had 3 sata, 24 pin, 8 pin, 4x6+2 Pin, and a floppy 4 pin. It was $300 for me. The white cables cost an extra $1 per wire due to him having to crimp all new white wires so it looks right. Normal 24 pin + 8 pin + 2x6+2 is around $190.

I'm going to build a new rig soon, and my only real concern is transferring data across to the new system. I'm currently using a RAID setup, so it's not just a matter of switching out the hard drive.

What's the best method to this? A friend recommended Norton Ghost to me. Any other suggestions?

Yuuuup. Going to have the PSU for many years to come, and I'm going to be modding my X900 for a casemod contest ($2500 prize, about $5k in parts) at PDXLAN. I could have done it myself for way less, but it wouldn't have looked half as nice.

They're nice, but omg that price. I can't see how they figure that much work went into doing it. Unless the process is a lot more involved than I'm aware of.

It's a pretty stupid amount of work. You have to remove the pins, then label each wire where it goes when you put it back in. Then you sleeve each wire, and in the case of the white guys, you cut all new white wire to replace the wires that are on there. After this, you put heatshrink on there and then put the wires back into the pins. Imagine doing that for 68 individual wires, and 3 Sata cables. Takes most people about 24+ hours of work unless you're a pro that does it often. Even then, its like 10-15 hours.

Arn't the I5/I7 Extremes also coming out this year?

The Extreme Edition is only waaaaaaaaaaay at the top, and in this case, i7 in socket 2011, which I think is what you're referring to.

And yes, those are coming out later this year.

That sounds like an immense amount of work. On my budget, I have to make due with NZXT's cable extension offerings.

How about this build? I'm trying to keep it under $700, if possible: http://secure.newegg.com/Shopping/ShoppingCart.aspx?Submit=view

That leads to "your shopping cart is empty". I forget how, but you'll need to create a public wishlist, and then link to that (I'm lazy, so I usually just take a screenshot of my cart, and then post that here)

I would switch the case for this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233)

The HDD for this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185&Tpk=Samsung F3) unless you really just don't need the extra capacity.

Switch RAM for this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277)

PSU for this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026) or this if you want to SLI/upgrade video card in the future (a bit more than your original selection after rebate, but much better as well) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...71049&cm_sp=DailyDeal-_-17-371-049-_-Homepage

This motherboard if you will never sli (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130571) this one if you might (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130583)

CPU is fine, as is the video card.

bah what a weekend, turns out after several days of testing, I found out that computer shutting down during intensive graphical work/gaming, was in fact because of my new video card(570 GTX). Which when the guy tested it in store was "pulsating" :/. Thankfully it had only been 10 days, and I got an exchange. Hopefully this one does better.......

So my wife is finally shutting down the mancave I had running with my computer hooked up to a 40inch TV and with big ass comfy leather chair.

However, she did say I can get a new monitor (well more that she doesn't mind using the old TV I was going to use as a monitor and using it for the bedroom TV). So in short is their any reason I should not get this?

http://www.target.com/Polaroid-Class-1080p-60hz-HDTV/dp/B004KRA1OE/ref=sc_qi_detaillink

I know it's Polaroid, who I never knew made a TV, but it's full 1080p and not missing anything like HDMI. So anyone reason I shouldn't get it? We also have a $25 gift card for target so the price goes down to 154 plus tax.

If memory serves, Polaroid uses a random Chinese OEM for their electronics. The quality really isn't very good. Is there any reason you don't want to go with something like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009212) or this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236050) or this for full 1080p (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009266) (for instance, do you need a TV tuner?)

Oh lord no, that would be fine and it would be cheaper. Any other monitors you could recommend that 1080p, 20 inches, hdmi, under 150?

I told my wife we'd hold off till I asked here and it seems like it was the right choice!

I decided to go ahead and build a machine of my own after almost making the mistake of buying a mobile gaming machine from dell. I wanted a PC for gaming (at first a notebook) but looked at how much I was spending and thought it would be better (after some research) to make my own machine.

I was hoping I could get some suggestions and advice, I was leaning to the BioStar MOBO, since it had SLI if I decided to do that... ( how do I know how many watts ill need if I do SLI? Is it just the requirements of the card times 2? )

Which ram should I use from the list above? Or... how much do I need? I want to be able to play Black Ops and a lot of current games with a high framerate, I was thinking I would get 8-16GB of ram... Is that too much?

This one is 1080p @ $150. 5 stars on Newegg in 342 reviews. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009266

Edit: It doesn't have HDMI, probably because it doesn't have speakers (so there is no need for audio transmission). You can get an HDMI to DVI cable for cheap on monoprice if you don't have any DVI cables.

Double edit: I'm realizing that you probably want to plug more than one thing into the monitor. If that is the case, an HDMI switch may be the best possibility. It would cost more though...hmm...

The 22" and under are usually 1680x1050.

That's not too bad, I already have a HDMI to DVI cable. I actually used it for my old TV/monitor when I was first testing my new computer out. Speakers I can live with out as I just tend to plug my headset into my computer. I mean it's nice to have, but truthfully if I need sound through TV I can just move the unit.

Oh last question any really cheap, but effective WIFI usb's I can get from Newegg? The wife for some odd and unexplainable reason doesn't want a 20+ foot cable going from the bedroom to the router out by the TV. lol

Nope just have the monitor to the computer. The older monitor I have will serve as the TV.

If you ever feel like adding speakers, there are pairs for $15 or so on Newegg.

I would go with the ASrock board over the Biostar board, for the simple reason that only thirteen people have ever reviewed the Biostar board. It may be fine, or it may be a lemon with a flaw effecting one out of every fourteen boards, and the fourteenth guy just hasn't reviewed it. There is no way to know.

For RAM, 4GB is enough for gaming. I usually recommend 8GB though, because it's extremely cheap. The set you've picked is over the moon expensive, and needlessly so (both the 16GB set, and the 8GB set). I'm going to list a bunch of DDR3 memory, and you can pick the one you think is prettiest (lol). I'm suddenly realizing that G.skill has way too many SKU's for the same amount of RAM.

GTX 580 vs GTX 570 is a judgement call. Look for benchmarks at your resolution, in the games you want to play. As a general rule of thumb, a GTX 580 is going to be 10-15% more powerful (while costing a lot more than 10-15% more than a 570)

Cool I'll have to keep that in mind. I do have an old (Netgear one I think), but I plugged it in and it wouldn't do anything, perhaps I just need to find drivers for it first. That or something with Windows 7.

4 GB is enough generally speaking, 8 GB if you want to "future-proof." Getting 16 GB is essentially worthless for video gaming. I would not get either of the RAM sets you linked. You want 1.5 V RAM, not 1.65 V; it's generally considered "better" for the 2500k/2600k.

Get 2 x 4 GB of 1.5 V RAM. Mushkin, Corsair, and G.skill are all solid brands.

I'm not entirely sold on the Dell Ultrasharp U2311H monitor. I'm leaning towards purchasing a Samsung PX2370 23" for around $250. Any thoughts?

List looks good so far. My recommendations are the mobo, get the ASRock mobo. I'm not to familiar with Biostar's track record regarding the reliability, but since ASRock is pretty much ASUS (budget brand line) you'll be good.

The ram is fine at 8GB (16GB is overkill unless you're going to be doing some heavy video editing), however you don't need to fan combo. Get this instead since it's cheaper http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231426

The GTX 580 will give you more than enough power to get 60fps out of most modern games (if you have the budget for it). Also, the GTX 570 is great as well. I have one and I'm getting 60fps on all my games on high settings. When you decide to go SLI, the 2 GTX 570/580 will give you unbelievable powah!!

A 750w or 850w PSU will be good enough for GTX 580 SLI down the line.

What are the chances of the new line up for products out in time for Black Friday?

In detail, what can be expected of the following, by Black Friday;

Sandy Bridge E
ATI 7000 series
Newer or cheaper SSD
Any major developments on the motherboard front

Well I pulled the trigger. It's ~30% more performance than my GTX 260 according to benchmarks and has dx11 support. So I feel much better about waiting for the next gen. $100 is a low price to bridge the gap till the Q2 range next year.

Plus I can ebay the 260 for an easy $50 (most cards sell in the $70 range to be honest) and make the upgrade super cheap.

Sandy Bridge E unlikely. 7xxx possible, Q4 is at least official. Cheaper SSD definately. No big changes other than possibly PCI-E 3.0.

Out of the last 3 years, I've never seen brand new products on Black Friday type discounts.
