Yeah, no problem. The cards can actually handle closer to 95C...but that's pushing it. The old 8800GT single slots ran at about that temp. Many manufacturers are just concerned about terrible reviews that don't bother sound level matching cards when they compare temperatures.TommyT said:Hmm? It's ok to let a card run up that high? I know some people have said that they can run hot, and well I *thought* that my issue was my card getting too hot as it would crash around the 70C area (could have been a different issue though). I adjusted my profile to keep the temp lower... but we can let it get that hot and be ok?
BTW, that firmware update to my SDD seemed to do the trick. No longer having the pauses. Thanks for that.
Not really, you might see a small benefit in games like Crysis or Witcher 2, not sure.Omiee said:Is the difference big in games between 4gb 1333 and 8gb 1600
Not a great card, but it should run games at decent resolutions and medium-high settings. Don't expect to use tessellation (5000 series wasn't good at it) or much AA on it without sacrificing settings.what do you guys think of the HD5770
Thinking about picking one up friday
You've got some great components there, but you are totally skimping on the case and PSU. I don't know if that GPU will even fit in that case.dangerbyrnes said:OK, i am thinking of buying my computer by the end of the week. what do you guys think of this build? anything look off, or strange? any suggestions are welcome.

also, this will cost me around $1,800, I'd like to know if that's a good price for this build. (includes building, and shipping) I did compare it to newegg prices and they are pretty close, and newegg doesn't assemble.
Thanks

And don't get a Raidmax PSU. Get something from a quality brand. All the watts in the world aren't going to help you if it catches on fire of messes up one of your expensive components. Look into Seasonic, Corsair, XFX, etc. Not sure how much power a 590 draws so I can't really recommend anything specific there.
HAF 912 is relatively cheap ($60, and usually has a $10 rebate) and will fit that GPU if you take out the top HDD bay. It's a solid case for the price.dangerbyrnes said:well, those were two things i wasn't sure about, the last was the motherboard. is that a good motherboard for the components?
what's a great case, anything you recommend?
You don't need it for the stock heatsinks. With aftermarket ones check the contents of the cooler you're ordering. Some include thermal paste, some don't.ACE 1991 said:(Surely) dumb question: Is thermal paste something I need to order for building my PC?

You're getting a Hyper 212+ right? That includes thermal paste.
i have it. decent but dont expect to run upcoming games @1080p and good framerate.Kentpaul said:what do you guys think of the HD5770

And the motherboard is fine.
Edit: For the PSU, looks like something in the 850W range will give you some headroom. 750W would run it but might limit OCing.

most likely a driver issue.Red Blaster said:Having an issue where my monitor goes black for a second and the message "nvidia display driver stopped responding but has been recovered". Any ideas what this means?

Upon reflection I'll probably be better off replacing my P182. Things will just be easier and cleaner and better and nicer and new.Case: Fractal Design Define R3
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 PRO B3
CPU: Intel® Core i5-2500K
CPU cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212+
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB CL9 Kit w/2x 4GB XMS3 modules, CL9-9-9-24, 1.5V
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 580 1536MB "DirectCU II"
HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB
SSD: Corsair SSD Force Series 3, 90GB
Monitor: DELL U2311H ULTRASHARP
Speakers: Creative Inspire T10
Reusing:
PSU: Corsair HX620W
Soundcard: X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatality or some such.
Optical drive: It accepts DVD's.
Plus one or two 120mm case fans.
Alternatively I'll get the Twin Frozr in case the DirectCu is a really tight fit for this case as well. The R3 is 1cm longer, which might be enough.
I own one. I love it for medium settings. What's your budget? I recently purchased GTX 460. Buy that instead since that is a better performer than 5770.Kentpaul said:what do you guys think of the HD5770

Only if you "thrashing" and are constantly using your page file because you don't have enough RAM. A RAM upgrade will be more effective, or for rendering a CPU upgrade would help.Soi-Fong said:Anyone here know if raid setups increase performance in gaming or rendering?

Depending on the RAID configuration, yes.Soi-Fong said:Anyone here know if raid setups increase performance in gaming or rendering?
$200 before rebate will get you a 6870/560 (they perform very similarly). That won't perform as well as two 5770s, but it will be more reliable. I'd go with the single card just because it's less of a hassle, multi-GPU configurations tend to bring out the worst in PC gaming (dealing with drivers, profiles, compatibility, etc).shagg_187 said:Alright. Moment of truth. I just cancelled a bunch of preorder and I have $200 in my pocket right now. My current card is 1GB HD 5770. What does GAF recommend:
1. Get another 1GB HD 5770 and enjoy dual cards; or
2. Get a better card for $200 and sell 5770?
Decisions, decisions...

Of course, the money is going to cost the same cause I might need a better power supply to support both cards (currently 550W).
Decisions, decisions...

Edit:
Yeah, upgrade the GPU to a 6870/560, and get a Hyper 212+ to OC your CPU. Don't think you will run two 5770s on that GPU, at least not with much headroom.

Oh geez, just discovered the top and rear fans on the P182 have three adjustable speeds. Turned one to M and the CPU temp dropped by 9C.
Think this means I can't remove them though.

How much are you spending? You might be able to get a 460 for about the same price.
