Oh it was in the running for sure! Went with the Hush as I see myself making good use of the hotswap bay on top, with my seventy billion hard drives kicking about.

Is it weird that instead of playing the previously unplayable games I have in my backlog, I just want to replay games I've already finished at mega-settings?! Mirror's Edge is utterly, utterly stunning at max settings/res.

Ah ok, one last thing, where did you find the fractal fan? I've been looking and haven't had much luck

SCAN (I'm a Brit!). Currently out of stock though. Overall theme of my build was to keep the noise to a minimum, rather than have maximum cooling as when I do start OC'ing, I'm not really looking to go too far north of 4GHz. Although I say that now, hehe!

It's a good fan, I need to check if it'll fit at the bottom of my case actually. It should do.

Hey gaf, my build is all sorted and great n all but I've been tasked with making a low budget machine for someone. So its gonna have to be less expensive than the damn capable build in the OP. Maybe £300. Only used for general browsing, office etc, very little or no gaming. But hoping its nice and fast for the budget.

I have no idea for low budget builds! any suggestions?

Start with the budget build, cut the GPU and replace the CPU+motherboard with an AMD A-series and a necessary board. That should be around £300?

You could keep the Intel parts though I guess. Not sure how the IGPs on the CPUs compare, but Intel's CPU is better. Probably the same price either way.

Edit again: AMD's has a better GPU and Intel's has a better CPU, so if there's no gaming or programs that are going to take advantage of the GPU you may as well stick with the i3.

Just bought Corsair HS1A for $40.

Goddamn, Corsair has really upped the game. The BEST headphones I've ever owned/heard under $50. Comes really really close to Audio-Technica ATH-A700. Really close! Of course, it beats Audio-Technica in my opinion cause it costs 1/4th of it and comes with a high quality mic.

Very comfortable too! Have worn it for 4 hours straight. Not a single inch of strain. I know I should've purchased HS1 instead of HS1A since it has Surround Sound but I prefer analog than digital i.e. 3.5mm than USB; and also because this one was $10 cheaper (I'm cheap!). It also comes with extra set of cushions if you prefer a different material.

It has a very minimal audio leakage, which is perfect for late night gaming when I don't want to disturb my brother. It also has a pretty long wire (which I LOVE!) and the quality is superb! Bass is also great! Battlefield: Bad Company 2 sounds mind-blowing with it!

Finally put together my pre-Battlefield build after a good long while of pondering and complete indecision and flip-flopping on pretty much every part I eventually settled on. Click links for pics!

Sweet rig congrats! Now get everything setup and head to the benchmarking thread and see how you stack up :)

I download an EFI BIOS update from Asus, I use the Updater in the Bios as always, it tells me you can't update from there ...

What's the point of that menu option in EFI then?

I'm close to buying my parts first from Micro Center and then from Newegg. What do you think of this build?

Somebody posted that GPUs are 20% off at Microcenter, might want to look into that as well.
Edit:

Ok, i have reset CMOS using both the button and the pins on the mobo, i have removed the ram sticks and then insert them again in place, but nothing, the PC keeps turning off after few seconds.

Could be the PSU or some other hardware fault?

The pc is rather new.

Most of MC's GPUs like the 6850 are $180-$200 before the coupon and I've never seen them as cheap as the one on Newegg. Might as well order most of my parts online. So it's good?
Yep, don't see any problems.

probably posted ages ago by feist or someone but I found this rather sad/funny :

I think it's for D'Ling using bluetooth.

That was in the BD thread, not sure if it was posted here. There was another slide that compared it with the 2500 and 2600 that looked a little better. I think the problem is price, if it's basically on par with a 2500k, there's not really any reason to spend an extra $40 or so on this CPU. I guess if you can get a good motherboard cheaper since it's fully unlocked that might work out, but I doubt it will be the case.

Thanks to those that posted the MicroCenter coupons. Just got back with a second 560 ti to SLI with my first one.

210 after taxes + $10 rebate + Batman = awesome deal.

For those buying GPUs at MicroCenter: make sure they give you your Batman code. Several folks looked at me like I was crazy and ha no idea what I was talking about. An assistant manager knew exactly what I meant and give me my code. Remember: it's not in the box!

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask but I built a new system yesterday (i5 2500k), I noticed that when I play games or do anything intensive my cpu runs @ 4.3ghz at around 1.35v's, I'm guessing this is turbo mode?, temps while playing Metro2033 max out at about 52c which seems fine, I'm just wondering is it ok running the system like this or should I manually o/c, I'm guessing the cpu can handle the constant voltage changes ok?

You should only need 1.30V.
Temps are fine. I'd change the voltage for your CPU though.

I need some serious help with my PC. I kept getting an error saying "Display driver NVIDIA windows kernel model driver, version 266.58 stopped responding and has successfully recovered". This appears usually when i look at a youtube video on firefox. I decided to uninstall the gtx 580 on device manager and then looked at youtube videos to see if the problem persist. It doesn't have the problem at all so is the gpu damage or is it a driver issue?

Version 266? Upgrade ya driver brah to at least 275.33

Managed to snag a 2500k for $195 new off ebay. Sad that I don't think I'm going to manage to get another 560 ti for $160 though. Not new at least. I'm expecting that box to be full of rocks when it arrives. Getting pretty fucking excited. Arkham City will be the greatest thing my eyese have ever set their gaze upon.

Hey All...

I have a GTX 580 EVGA 1.5GB GPU up for sale if anyone is interested. It has a lifetime warranty that I would be willing to support if the need arises. I still have the packaging and all the cables, manuals etc. that came with the card. The card is only about 4 months old, works great. I upgraded to 3gb MSI Lightnings and gave one of my EVGA 580's to a friend and I have the second to sell.

PM me if interested.

I usually build a new PC every 3 years in December. I have the itch early this time and want to know if the i5-2500k is likely going to be the value leader until Ivy Bridge next year. I don't see anything else that looks like it is going to topple it for a while but wanted to check with you you fine people first.

What online store would you(users) recommend on buying a gaming pc? alienware? ibuypower?

And before you reply no i am not building it, i don't know how and im not taking a chance on breaking anything, i don't know anyone who can and i live in the middle of boonsville, it's not an option and i don't care if i will save money, money isn't an issue.

NFS Hot Pursuit @ 1080p, 60fps, 8x MSAA, and 8x SGSSAA OH MY GOD. Bros...my mind is blown, that shit was unreal.

Land of SLI why did I wait so long to move here

I'm probably out of date but Maingear.

Bulldozer should be out in a month so check back then.
I think it will be comparable, but noting extraordinary.

Shhhhh, be quiet you, talk like this could lead to my bank account being quite a bit lower. :D

I'm sorry brah

Between NFS : HP (one of the greatest racers this gen) and my experience with Bad Company 2 MP earlier today (115+ fps, 32x AA, everything maxed) I can't go back. If you can afford it get on the train and don't look back!

Do you play SC2? im interested in how bad those cards destroy it on ultra

I don't. I've never been a strategy person. In fact I've always wanted to try SC2. I hear SLI support isn't all that great in that game though.

I cant test it for you on my 2 lightnings, but I can already tell you that it works good. I had 2 580 Evga cards and it worked very well. While SLI is not used to great extent, it is still a benefit. Last time I tried, I was locked at 60fps with everything maxed out at 1080p. But I did not get into a large battle, which I need to do to see if the frame rate stays consistent. Will post when I test it out...sometime tomorrow.

Guys i decided to unplug my dvi cable and then plug it again tighter. No problems have happened so do you think it was possibly something as simple as the plug needing to be more in?

I dunno how a driver could be impacted with a cable...but if it works leave it alone!!

I'm thinking about these base on the Headphone Frequency Response: 10Hz-28KHz

I can tell the difference from 20Hz–20KHz headphones.
