I think so. What resolution are the monitors?

8GB of Ram is tonnes, and yes SLI would make a difference but it would be much more beneficial to get one $300 card than two $150 cards for much better performance and no added worries of SLI.legacyzero said:So SLI/Crossfire doesn't always equal better? legacyzero said:So when upgrading, And I go with the advise of just one $300 card, should I go with Nvidia or ATI? What's the pro's and cons? I'm still learning this whole thing.

Hawk269 said:It depends on the cards you xfire/sli. Obviously two less powerfull cards cant beat out 1 great powerfull gpu. But when you are buying higher end cards, nothing beats out dual/tri or quad gpu setups. With AMD/Nvidia coming out with newer cards in the near future or so this may change a bit, but we dont know enough about the new cards as of yet.
For me, SLI is worth it and has been fantastic for me.
I checked the SPDIF Out box, but I don't see any option for the Dolby Digital Live, only PCM. There's no option of Dolby Pro Logic IIx either. I downloaded the latest driver from Asus website when I installed the card so it should be up-to-date.Darkatomz said:Ah it's Dolby. In that case...
Audio Channel: 6 channels
Sample Rate: PCM 44.1KHz
Analog Out: Headphone (FP if you're using the front panel, but it's best not to. Also, click the little hammer icon and adjust the impedance to match your headphones. Most cans will probably use the Normal Gain setting)
SPDIF Out: Check the box and change it to Dolby Digital Live. Click the button next to it and turn on the upmix option. Also, check the Dolby Pro Logic IIx button too)
You should be using the CCC instead of Vision. Download and install them.punkypine said:i just downloaded the drivers from AMD and let it decide what software to use, and i guess it chose that
When you install the program, don't use the default location, but select/change to another drive. If you are talking about game save files, they are usually very small so should easily fit onto the SSD.Jarrod4321 said:Quick question here,
Say if I buy a small 60gb ssd as a boot drive and then have a separate 1tb hdd for everything else how do i tell windows to save program files etc to the hdd instead of the ssd?
I assume with all the ssds being brought lots of people have had to contend with this problem.
Anyone have any ideas?Cocopjojo said:Hello PC GAF,
I have an ASRock P67 Extreme4, as well as a 64GB SSD and a 2TB Samsung HDD. I also have the N570GTX.
I installed Windows 7 on the SSD. Now I have the 2TB HDD connected via SATA, but it won't show up as a drive. I can see it in Disk Management, but it shows up as 1862.89 GB unallocated, and my only options are to switch it to and from MBR and GPT. I've done those multiple times and restarted each time. But it never shows up as a real drive, and it never gives me the option to assign it a drive letter in Disk Management.
Jarrod4321 said:It depends Nvidia has the edge in some games and has much better drivers than AMD, but the Nvidia can't do three screens with one card if that matters to you.
Format the drive then you can use it.Cocopjojo said:Anyone have any ideas?
This may be a dumb question but how can I format it? I don't have that option in Disk Management, and I can't "see" the drive anywhere else.knitoe said:Format the drive then you can use it.
I haven't tried that because I didn't know what a "simple volume" was. I guess I'll try it now.mug said:Right click on unallocated and click new simple volume?
Well does it work? I'm using a ST, not an DG, so there might be a couple of different features.Le-mo said:I checked the SPDIF Out box, but I don't see any option for the Dolby Digital Live, only PCM. You are probably not using the same settings. Big difference are DX10 and disable Tessellation.Le-mo said:I see. It works. Thank you.

So based on the OP builds using the GTX570, do you think it'd be worth it to go the extra mile and grab a 580, and eventually purchase a 580 SLI setup (assuming prices will drop later this year), or would it be just as reasonable to just grab the 570 and use that extra money towards other things?
A few things to keep in mind, I will only be using one 23" display, but will likely do a lot of 3D.

Think I'll go the 580 over the 570 now..
Thats why i said some games such as Crysis 2.Tallshortman said:Not at all, AMD drivers have been quite good with the 6000 series and have been superior in some games. There are also games that favor AMD architecture. It is certainly not one company over the other by any means.

Yeah I saw some nice discounts on 580s in the US but here in AU we haven't seen any fluctuations.. Tempted to import but given the cost and warranty I think forking out the extra is the safer bet.LordCanti said:We've been seeing 580's discounted into the 400's, so I wouldn't spend much more than $450 on one right now.
Remember that you'll need a pretty beefy PSU to SLI in the future if you decide to go that route.

Seems nothing feature wise is radically different then Sandy Bridge other then PCIe 3.0 and USB 3.0 . Seems most of the freed up TDP is being used to make lower power procesors and better integrated GPU. I'm a little disappointed that they are dedicating even more transistor count to the GPU but hopefully the higher end desktop SKUs will be even better at overclocking then Sandy Bridge. Max multiplier has been raised to 63 and memory is now supported up to 2800MHz

Get Arctic Cooling MX-4 thermal paste instead.aett said:I'm going to be building my first PC since 2006, and I've decided to go with the "Enhanced" build from this thread, since it perfectly fits into my computer budget (along with a monitor and the $30 student copy of Windows 7). I made sure to add Arctic Silver to my shopping cart, because the last time I built a PC, it wouldn't even run the first time without using that.
Is there anything else I should know or consider before I click the Checkout button, or am I good to go with the Enhanced build?
knitoe said:Get Arctic Cooling MX-4 thermal paste instead.
Get a PSU larger than what your system actually needs. You'll be paying for wattage you won't actually use, sure, but it means your PSU won't have to work as hard and therefore won't run as hot and need its fans to ramp up, which in turn means it runs quieter and lasts longer. As an added bonus.DEO3 said:Can anyone recommend a (nearly) silent PSU? I've got a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme on my CPU and an Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme Plus on my video card, both are which are damn near silent now, but because of how loud my PSU gets when it ramps up under load, my PC is still making a racket when gaming.

I did a few of the recommendations from the first post for my ssd and freed up a pretty significant amount of space - THANKS!
One thing that does concern me a little is the heat. I downloaded Prime 95, CPUID Hardware Monitor, CPU-Z, and Core Temp and things looked a little high to me. I'll work on getting a screen up but the cpu temps under load were running in the 48-53 range with a min/max around 32/60. The 570 was doing better, running at 31 with a min/max of 26/44. I have a CoolerMaster 690 II Advanced case with 4 fans and an H60 on the cpu. I have not yet even tried to overclock. Does this sound right?
570 + other money. Sticking with single card is fine as new GPUs come out pretty often imo.Ryaaan14 said:Been watching this thread for a month or two since I've been planning on building a PC (my first ever gaming capable PC wtf?) for the holidays, and I figured I'd go ahead and bite the bullet and ask...

I don't know if they have it yet, they may in some transition period because they just opened a US warehouse and might want to have some builders here or something. Post on their forums / email them.Renmei said:I have a question about the NCIX PC Builder option. I am in the US and would like to use it to build a gaming PC by buying the parts and have them assemble it fot $50. However I am very confused on how to do it. On their Canadian site they have a PC Builder tool that'll help you put it together. I have read through some google results saying that you can just pick all the parts you want, add them to the cart and select a PC Assemble option.
Which site do I use? The US one doesn't seem to have the PC Builder tool, do I order form the Canadian site and have it shipped to the US?
