Something in-fucking-credible happened. I actually got an email from EVGA and was able to order the mythical Geforce 3080. Holy fuck.

Now to figure out what to do with my 2080 Ti.

Congrats man! I would've winced at that price many moons ago. Got my 6800xt and love it despite overpaying for it heavily. This is a huge win for you. Took a year but your patience wore off. Prices were just announced to be going up from most of the chipset manufacturers since supply constraints are going to continue till the end of next year. You hit that lottery for sure.

Just got the money to clear on ebay from selling my 2080 so the pain hurts a little less but I definitely got creamed.

Jup next year is going to be wild, moving to new pci-e standard, new DDR standard, 500mbps HDD's support, 14gbps SSD's, RTX I/O, directstorage, MCM RDNA3
And we only need to sell our kidney and maybe the liver to buy all of that 🕺

True that, already saving up for it. i really really hope amd ryzen cpu's are going to slam performance out of the park with pcie 5.0. but who knows.
If i may ask, how do you know that nvidia is gonna release the 4000 series on the second half of 2022?!

Probably not probably end of 2022 we will see the cards appear.

Nvidia will react on AMD, so its not really interesting to see what nvidia releases when. Its more interesting to see what AMD is going to do. AMD next GPU's could launch anywhere from q3 2022 to q2 2023. Most likely q4 2022 or q1 2023. Nvidia will launch before it and react on AMD whenever that happens.

I am hearing that zen 4 is skipping 5.0 due to heat problems. 4.0 is already getting hot.

Probably got caught with there pants down sounds more like it. If the next one doesn't come with 5.0, then the year after they will there is no way they going to be behind. Because the pci-e 5.0 ssds are also coming in q2 2022 and most likely the next nvidia gpu's will also already be 5.0.

It is what it is, we will see where the future ends up on. 2022 lots of things will happen, markets will shift. So good times for PC gamers. However what in reality it pushes for PC gamers who knows. We still don't have a real next generation game in our hands so we gotta wait and see.

I'm just sad that i bought a 4k oled in 2018 and you can count the numbers of games that i can run at native 4k on a single hand without a couple of fingers.

I fucking need a new pc asap.

Hopefully amd and intel are gonna release something interesting sooner than nvidia, altough it's hard to beat dlss as a selling point, i don't even care about amd inferior rtx since i don't give a crap about the tech for now.

edit: lol what a paradox, i can't wait to play in native 4k and i drool for nvidia gpus to play with state of the art fake 4k :ROFLMAO:

Happy to say I ordered an 3060 via evga queue finally and can pc game again. So I’ll have a 3060, 1600af and 32gb ram with ssd on am4.

Need to think about a cpu upgrade but going to wait and get the best zen cpu they make before they go to a new socket.

Sold my PC which had a R5 3600, 16gb ram, 2060 super and bought myself this with the money plus a whole 250$ out of my pocket:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600x 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor

COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition 57.3 CFM CPU Cooler

MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte B550M AORUS PRO Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard

RAM: Team T-Force Delta RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory

STORAGE: Western Digital Blue SN550 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive

GPU: Asus GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB ROG STRIX GAMING OC Video Card

Case: Lian Li LANCOOL 215 ATX Mid Tower Case

PSU: Corsair RM 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Think I did pretty good, I got a bundle for the CPU, Mobo, ram and psu from a miner who bought a shitload of bundles for GPUs, got it for way less than MSRP and without sales taxes. Think I did pretty well!

This is what we call a major finesse. Congrats on the build. The 3060 Ti is definitely a workhorse. You're gonna love it.

My new build, just waiting on some better looking PCIe cables I ordered.
I put the radiator at the top for space reasons but I'm not sure if I have screwed up the airflow? I have two intake fans at the front, so it's 2 intake and 3 exhaust.

Specs:

GPU: ASUS GeForce RTX 3080 Ti TUF OC
CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X
Mobo: ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS
RAM: Ballistix 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 4000MHz
Storage: Gigabyte NVMe Gen3 SSD 128GB and Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1TB
AIO cooler: Corsair iCUE H115i RGB PRO XT

Great build, but you messed up the storage.

I wouldnt go lower than 256GB for the OS drive. Windows gets very large with its each update.

Also I should had gone for the 2TB version as your second drive. 1TB is honesty not a lot these days.

Bros after looking at this hellscape market on the one hand, and my loyal-but-sputtering 4670k/GTX 970 on the other, along with my new job (signed on last month!) and career path in Deep Learning on TensorFlow and adding in my desire to totally skip DDR4....

I've decided to sidegrade:
  • Going to meet a dude off our local Craigslist equivalent and top out LGA 1150 by picking up a 4790k for $120 or so.
  • Will Julia-stalk all the e-commerce sites for a max price/perf/VRAM (12GB)/Tensor Core RTX 3060 for not more than $100 over MSRP
  • Will stick both of the above back into my Urban S71, and now actually max out the fans supported
  • Probably tack on another 12-16 TB rust-spinner too
  • Old CPU/GPU will get repackaged for my nephew as he turns 4, a good age for any young boy to start learning GNU/Linux on his own machine
  • Will wait out another couple of years for DDR5 to not be trash then actually upgrade at that point
So basically, I am re-doing 2013 again except this time I can pretend I had money back then and go top-of-the-line!

4790k and 3060 will be great. Definitely 4 cores 4 threads is useless these days. 4790k will obv. still bottleneck but will be fine for 60hz with fast sync/gsync. I think it's more fun to breath new life into old system than build one from scratch.

Hello 31% faster compile times! I do this quite often for work so it's a joy to see these kinds of gains at the stock clock.

Honestly I play 1 game at a time and have fast enough internet to DL anything in an hour should I need it. A 500 GB SSD is more than enough for me.

I really don't know what the hell people are doing with their terabyte SSDs. Data hoarders? Juggling a dozen games?

Same here, u redownload a game in like 20 minutes or something. the internet is my harddrive. as long as it fits within 300gb its fine.

How is ultra wide support these days. Always wanted a 3440x1440 screen for some reason. But having almost no support for 21:9 in games it was kinda pointless to have one. How is it now in the current year. Also anybody got some suggestions on which one is good these days with hdr in it would be nice.

Now to figure out what to do with my 2080 Ti.
Hd0bdb8.jpg
So my GPU is finally here and I now have the dream PC setup. I replaced my Geforce 2080 Ti and returned my Gigabyte AORUS FV43U Gaming Monitor. The monitor was nice in that I could connect my 2080 Ti and take advantage of DSC to get 4K 144 Hz, but I simply could not get past the ghosting/smearing when playing locked 60 fps games. So once I got the 3080 email, I jumped on it knowing full well I could sell my 2080 Ti and get most of what I paid for the 3080. I replaced the Gigabyte monitor with a 48 inch LG OLED C1 that can take advantage of the 3080s HDMI 2.1 port, which enables 120 Hz, which is not QUITE as good as 144 Hz, but it's pretty damn good. Without further ado, here is my setup. The OLED screen only goes on for games or when watching content from apps. Perfect setup for me.
JLD6lfr.jpg
jD0ILFH.jpg

You can see from the reflection that I have a dual monitor setup which I use for normal work.

My ONLY concern is the 10GB GPU memory present. I do worry that this will shorten the useful life of the GPU, but I will tolerate turning down texture detail to maintain near 4K 60-120 fps.

Now that I have a 48 inch OLED, I am actually going to try widescreen games with black bars on the top. However, I read that it requires custom resolutions and also causes things like VRR, 10-bit color and HDR to be unuseable, which is a break for me. However, I'd love to know more about this.

Iam still trying to figure out what screen to take, low response time is really important to me. and not sure if the slower oled panel will annoy me.

Is the 3060 ti a good choice for say the next 3 - 4 years vs the new Consoles ?

I see all kind of comments online some saying the 3060 ti is superior, other saying you need a 3070 ti - 3080 ti to be safe the whole gen?

The whole thing is confusing since this seems to be a 1440p card while consoles produce 4K images (CB on PS5).

I would pair it my i5-11600k which seems to be a sweet combo without costing both my arms.

Thanks

Slower? OLED has fastest response time. There is almost no ghosting compared to 120hz LCD. You need 240hz TN to get similar effect

Correct. There is virtually no ghosting on my OLED and really is the perfect gaming experience. Skyrim had some very noticeable ghosting/blur at 60 fps on my Gigabyte VA panel. When I tweaked Skyrim for 120 fps, it was better but still present.

120 fps is almost uncomfortably butter smooth. Sadly so many games are locked at 60 fps. I replayed Wolfenstein The New Order and it had absolutely awful performance. I very disappointed in the optimization of that game. Being on Gamepass also eliminated being able to optimize and that was frustrating

Recently got myself a Ryzen 5600x. The 1800x was getting on a bit, and while it was supported on my B550 board, I couldn't run my mem at 3200 so needed changing. That was the plan anyway but that sort of sped up proceedings.

Does anyone have any decent cooler recommendations? My knowledge of coolers is, for want of a better word, wank. The stock Wraith Stealth is OK but the temps aren't ideal. Prefer an air cooler, but if there is a standout AIO I'd take that. Case is a Riotoro CR1088 - Link-a-roonie.

PC is starting to take shape now

Ryzen 5600x (£250)
MSI Bazooka B550m (Managed to snag this on eBay for £50, unwanted gift for seller)
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32gb @ 3200 (£110)
Inno3D RTX 2080 (£699? Had it from Overclockers on release but can't remember)
Samsung 980 Pro 1TB (£140)
Intel SATA 180GB SSD (£15 on eBay)
Crucial MX500 500GB (£40 off of a mate)
WD Enterprise Black 1TB (£10 off of eBay)
EVGA 650GQ (£65/70ish quid, got a few years ago)

It's been a blast playing and getting back into Destiny 2 on it the past few days.

Noctua U12s for cooler. Would be a workhorse champ for the 5600x. If need something cheaper, I lot of folks go for the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo.

My win10 takes up 120GB after all updates. Also you should not have a C drive that are almost full.
